No argument here but presumably if someone wants to farm with a Sentinel maximum speed is not the priority.  I've farmed with a Kin Corruptor with only 75% resist and I wasn't constantly healing but I did have to of course.

OP questioned the effectiveness. I gave the simplest and shortest summation of the effectiveness difference on a non-Tank/Brute farming vs a Tank/Brute farming. Never said impossible, never said useless.

Literally stated the difference in Resists would be the biggest issue. Didn't get into the issues of target caps nor damage scalars, both also hold Sentinels back in mass combat.

Yes, min/maxes will find new optimized builds.  But you're overlooking the fact that there may be many ways to achieve it versus a handful.

And you're overlooking the fact that you're attempting to argue against mechanical facts and proven sociological game theory with anecdotal evidence...

When you choose to use empirical evidence, you can bring something to this discussion. Until then, your ideas and claims should be dismissed as easily as the smoke they are made from.

75% is fine as long as you're softcapped and have a heal.  Not as good as 90% of course, but you won't faceplant unless you just walk away for a while to make a sandwich while surrounded by mobs.

To paraphrase @Bill Z Bubba - "Any time clicking heals is time not killing."

75% vs 90% resist is HUGE in the massed damage that is farming. While it is possible to farm with such limitations, it will be SLOWER than alternatives.

    1) You'd open up the build options.  If taking just Combat Jumping or Hover capped  your benefit from +DEF, then you'd be able to choose a lot of other options.  Right now, EVERY SINGLE SCRAPPER at level 50 has the  Tough and Weave.   Well, not every single one.  But it's north of 90% based on my anecdotal evidence.

No, the min/maxers would find some new optimal edge... it would percolate out to the masses, and then eventually become common knowledge.

Much the same on how Fighting became a common choice, and Def-capping became common.

Players who don't take the optimal powers to max the power of a toon's build do so for two(three) reasons:
    1) They don't know any better, yet. They've never learned the benefits of the mechanically superior choice, they refuse to do so due to being convinced they have a better option, or they're leery of the outlier performance and future adjustments - This is me, with regards to proc-fu builds - I haven't expended the effort to learn how to min/max procs, and I definitely anticipate their adjustment... I don't play enough to want to rebuild my stable of toons to deal with that.
    2) They are intentionally challenging the build, for fun/concept/challenge reasons - This is the Pool toons, the RP toons, the SO/common only toons, etc.
    3) They don't care. This is a game, and they don't want to be bothered with building a character, they just want to play. This is the folks who play City of Dress-up, run content with empty slots/expired enhancements, etc...

None of these choices are invalid, since this is a game, and you're supposed to find your fun. All of them are sub-optimal. Many are still viable despite that.

It doesn't change the fact that there WILL be powers/pools/slotting that is the "best" possible for a given AT/Pri/Sec. And removing one won't create diversity (Read: Enhancement Diversification, writ yet again), it'll just make a new "best" option.

  5. Here's a skeleton, haven't slotted it out, but a quick rebuild.

Only 4 +Def powers, but you only slotted 4x LotG.
2 OShi buttons - Brutes lose Shadow Meld, so dropped Fly entirely and grabbed Force of Will > Unleash Potential.

    Might work better.

The Stalker issue is fascinating. This little thread is split pretty 50/50 on whether they're awesome or awful for Prae. I may have to make one someday to see for myself, but for now I've gone with a Demons/Nature MM. It's going very well so far but then I'm only 11 so how badly could it go by that level?

I tore through content on that Stalker slotted with SOs. I have a second perma Praetorian because I felt the first try went too quickly. "a slightly more squishy Scrapper" is something I never experienced.

Most of my Ice/Regen's career through Prae/FW/NW was SO/30 commons, with literally just the 2 special ATO's. Again, no defenses, no IO sets, still a decent ride.

  7. Rolled a Mind/Psi "bear" toon that got swiftly generic'd and rightfully so, at CoV launch. However, the WIN button of Domination had a lot of allure, and they felt more like scrappers than any other villain AT did - also, I finally got to play Control sets without having to hate life as a support player. Got an Ice/Fiery Demon and Fire/Icy menopausal mutant (my mother's idea when she found out about the game) - Both with macro's for transformation on Domination... never could afford a Perma-dom build on Legacy, though.

Rediscover the game just prior to the drama explosion, get playing after once HC went live - instant new project to level 1 toon of each AT on the "wrong" side, chose Dark/Psi for concept, new control set, and not a repeat of previous dominators. Giggle-fest to 50, first blue 50 in HC, and finally perma-Dom. More giggles ensue.

Once I finish my Scrapper project (1 of each primary to 50), I'll pro'ly move to either Stalkers or Dominators next.

Saw Psi Melee/Willpower on your list and I wanted to warn you, they have a bad interaction: Mass Levitate can fling things out of Rise to the Challenge. It's a small but sometimes noticeable reduction in how much regeneration you receive from the power, especially against groups where Willpower struggles (Malta, Arachnos, etc.).

I think the issue can be remedied with a -Knock IO put into Mass Levitate (not certain if -KB works on KU though), but half the fun of the power is tossing enemies around. Also, the control aspect of it can be helpful in tight situations, which are exactly the ones where the flinging can become a problem.

Can't believe I missed this, thank you for the heads up... Gonna assume similar issues with Invincibility?

Yes, a -KB IO turns Mass Levitate into Mass Backflip. It's pretty funny. I paired Psi Melee with / Stone to add the +Fire secondary effect onto the Psi attacks to maximize elemental damage.

While nifty, I'd rather not lean on that for viability...

So, with all that said and done:
    Psi/Regen
    Stone/Will

Scramble things around, still minimizing repeats, and giving Willpower some soft control. Alternately, could go Ice/Will and Stone/Invulnl... But I think Stone wants QR.

Hello. I recently created an Ice Blaster and an Ice Melee Stalker.

Is it just me or does Ice Melee seem a little lacking in damage? Although I know it has other benefits such as slow, -recharge, kd.

Also,  does Frozen Aura seem like a lame t9 power?

    Thanks

My Ice/Regen Stalker says nope. Granted, I run with Ice Sword, Assassin's Strike (Why is this not "Spear" to go with the Ice theme HC devs?!), Frozen Touch and Frozen Aura.
Then Build Up, Placate, and Ice Patch - but none of those are direct damage.
Hate cones, never took Frost, never felt the lack.

As I was leveling, I had Frozen Fists for better attack chains, but with IO's I managed to pare it out.

  10. @Errants - because I love getting free stuff.

Caveat: I've not played all of these on Scrappers to 50, but I scrap with every toon I play, so I'm drawing some parallels.

Claws - Ginsu blender of doom, doesn't even need the flippy attack to be useful. Fair warning, I've not yet actually played this to 50, but I have played DB on legacy, very similar with BF/FU and stabbing things - Claws just does it better than DB.
Dark Melee - Punch all the things. Ran a DM/EnA Brute on Legacy (Nick Fitt), absolute blender/brute, even without a damage aura or AoE attacks (Buzzsaw build). HC DM changes look like gravy.
Electrical Melee - Only mid-level with an Elec/SR Scrapper, but been a fun ride, just too many alts. Jacob's Ladder is much less painful than Shadow Maul, and you get the best modifier on the tele-nuke. Single target can lack a bit, though.
Energy Melee - 100% reviewing this just from forum information, have yet to roll one, let alone play it. But when 257* scrapper-fu poster are all saying it's the new hotness... it's the new hotness.
Katana - Far too many hours on Legacy with a Kat/Regen, my main and badger there - Katana is jack of all, master of style. Looks cool, sounds good, great power names. Decent AoE/ST, and the Lethal damage can be offset with liberal sprinklings of -Res procs from every power doing -Def.
Radiation Melee - Just have a baby Rad/Shield... But, damage aura primary? Not anemic ST damage? It's Spines, but better.
Street Justice - StJ/Shield Stalker for reference - Visceral, mean, quick, AoE and ST. This set just FEELS good. So many giggle moments. Also, the power names? And from what I've read, there's minimal change with Rib Cracker vs Assassin's Strike, if anything, the Scrapper chains are easier.
Titan Weapons - TW/Nin, 47ish... Schoolgirl with a jet-propelled hammer. One of the few unique AT power combos left, and it is absured. Yes, TW was nerfed; yes, it devours your end bar; yes, it is still VERY effective. I've been soloing AV's with her since the low 40's, to include Mako's Patron arc.

I'm a big fan of ATs having exclusive sets. If a set is going to be proliferated, it needs to be replaced with a new exclusive set.

Fortunately, both Legacy and HC devs seem to be of the opposite mindset.

Which, yanno, I think is great! Agency to the players!

Why does Malaise get to have all the fun?

As a more serious note, Im legitimately curious as to the limits that are holding Illusion Control to Controllers exclusively. Like, is it the coding headache? Or one of those 'balance' thingies I hear people cry about whenever we talk about why Scrappers aren't allowed to take Assault Rifle?

Pro'ly due to only 3 powers being affected by Domination, and the double invis/utility power in the primary.

Grav isn't that far behind, though...

Thank you. I havent run through gold with a stalker since the placate changes -- they don't really matter TOO much to me, since Stalkers are, to my mind, more reliable scrappers anyhow so the fact ambushes appear more frequently than hami does on hamikaze night didn't exactly make them a NO sell for me (Stalkers have more than enough damage and defense, alongside scrappers, to pull their weight in Praetoria). Even without placate, Stalkers get hide, which means missions that are BASICALLY just "find the clicky in this HUGE sewer system then run to the end and kill a boss" missions become an absolute BREEZE for them since you're not stuck slugging it out with ever pack of ghouls between you and these things.

But. Praetoria also like escorts, which coincidentally DONT like stealth also. So for Stalkers, it's a lot of ups and downs.

Great class, I may revise my recomendation once i give stalkers another go through gold.

The convenience of speeding through objective missions (especially when set to No Exp) is infinitely worth the PITA of escorts.

  14. I recently did exactly this, following

    this guide for maximum shenanigans.

I used an Ice/Regen Stalker - As long as you're back in Hide by the time the ambush arrives, it's comical. They follow you, hug you, but won't attack until you're out of Hidden. Additionally, AS and Placate for aggro management make soloing a BREEZE for most of the mobs.

Yes, there's one or two tricky spots with ambushes/fights from cut scenes... That's what enhancements are for.

I leveled her all the way on Gold XP only, and by the end of it was fighting +1x4 even through Ward's arc and finale. I was with a set build at that point, but most of the ride was SO's with the two key Stalker ATO's.

  15. Slot DP for Recharge first, then Accuracy and Healing. It'll take a lot to get it close to perma, though. (I'm at 280% in it and at 32 seconds.)

Totally worth it. I am running Dark/Psi with it, though, so also abusing -ToHit for additional resiliency.
