Is it possible to recover deleted characters?

So the characters we had before Sunset were only on the server? There isn't a copy on my old hard drive somewhere? I never deleted anything, just kind of faded out shortly before the original servers did. I can't be the only one who wonders... I had some really great characters with terrific back-stories.
