  1. Well after messing with both an SR/MA tank and an Elec/SR sentinel I can honestly say I love both and have no idea which to main 😛 but at least it's finally down to two, even if one isn't a tank. I can say having a red elite boss only hit me once on my tank at level 11 felt amazing. Sentinel is also fun though...a lot of fun. I love my permanent sparky pet. Choice paralysis is great 🙂
  2. The reason I'm assuming tanker is the best class is because they can essentially have 90% passive and/or auto powers while being, well, tanky to allow for me to make many mistakes due to my hands. If there's a better option in certainly open to suggestions. As for what people expect... the character is meant for soloing. The only time I plan to group is with my wife and she is obviously aware of the handicap. Other than randomly fighting a GM or something I highly doubt I will ever be in any other groups, and I doubt I'm the only person on the server with a solo focus tanker either way.
  3. Thanks for clarifying, that's good to know. And me? Over thinking? Never 😛 Guess I just need to decide on a secondary I enjoy at this point, which should only take me another week or so 🙂 On the plus side it looks like I'll also get to try sr on sentinel since my wife wants to do a duo. That one is easy though, pistols all the way for me.
  4. Thank you so much for the pile of advice, I've been reading it while I continue to browse and hunt down more info. I do have a question after digging around and finding out more about some enemy types. Apparently there are a few enemies that more or less completely ignore your defense because they have such a high chance to hit (eyes and the like, apparently). Are there any similar enemies that basically ignore a characters resistance or is this just a handicap for defense players to deal with? Apparently getting 100% resist also gives you 100% resist against resist debuffs, where defense can also only ever get 95% debuff resist? Does this mean there are some enemies that SR basically just can't handle? Also, can inv get to 100% all resist without its T9? I know you can get some pretty crazy numbers if you're willing to invest heavily later on with IO sets. It seems like, from my limited understanding, resist sets are just flat out better than defense if you can make yourself immune to being debuffed out of your primary means of protection. Obviously layering both types of protection is better. My understanding of the deeper mechanics of the game are likely making me make some silly assumptions here.
  5. Thanks for the advice, will likely end up as SR at this point. Just need to decide on a secondary. If I ever actually get to 50 and am able to farm up some influence I can see about trying out another set like stone or inv. Honestly a bit nervous about cascading defense failure, it's basically all you ever hear about when you mention SR, but it's not like people haven't worked around it already. Also wish there was a melee version of the pistol powerset 😛 I had almost been tempted to try out DP/SR on a sentinel as well, despite my current heavy leaning towards a tanker, but it seems like the sentinel would be squishy for a great deal longer due to SR being secondary instead of primary and I can easily see myself getting super frustrated. Plus harder to soft cap, so squishier longer still compared to tanker. Really wish tanker had the sentinel version of SR ported over to their primary though. Either way I know my patience limit and I'm going to say sentinel would push it pretty hard compared to the relative ease of making tanker...well...tanky.
  6. With caveats, of course, because why would it be easy? I am fairly new to the server so a decked out IO build is very far off in the future, so this would be more focused on basic SO/IO builds. Plus, due to disability mentioned in my other topic, the armor sets are going to be more limited. After far too much hunting around through the various AT's on the forum, reading posts, talking in discord, hunting through reddit, and trying to figure out exactly what I want to play while keeping it as simple as possible for my disabled butt, I think I've finally settled on Tanker for sure. I've already been messing with a few of them (only up to level 10-18 so far) just to make sure I enjoy them, but I've sort of hit a wall on figuring out exactly what I want to play now. I also tried a couple sentinels because those were recommended to me, and while I very much enjoyed their version of the armor powers (especially the absorb on inv) I still think I like tankers better. Kinda saw that coming though, I've always had a thing for tank classes. There are four armor sets that seem to be the easiest to play and that I am considering (fewer clicks are a huge preference for me): Inv, Stone, WP, and SR. I'm honestly not all that interested in WP but it's still listed for fairness for the sheer ease of use. I've tried sticking them all in Mids and going bare bones SO's with them but the reality is that I don't have enough experience with level 50 or post-50 to have any idea how they would really function (the only character I got to 50 on live was a mastermind, had far too much altitis to ever accomplish it again). Obviously I can see each armor set has X amount of def, or res, or regen etc. but I don't really know what that means for overall toughness with how the various defensive layers combine, if that makes sense. I especially have no real experience with planning anything remotely resembling an IO plan so that makes it even harder. I even have costumes planned for all three so I can't use not having a character concept against any of them. It seems like there's some overlap with stone and inv but they're still plenty different as well, and of course SR is it's own beast. Of course this doesn't even touch secondary choices but at least I have a couple ideas for them. I have to ask though, because it was mentioned to me and it sounded funny. Is it viable in any way to play elec melee and shove as many healing procs as possible into it? It seems that basically every attack can use it. Chances are pretty good I'll end up with martial arts in the end anyway (love that def buff) but I am very curious about the health sustain possibility. I know dark melee is also considered good but I can't for the life of me figure out a way to color it that makes me actually like how it looks. And of course I am a fan of claws because claws because they are just fun. As for why I'm so focused on being tanky...I mess up. A lot. Hands don't work right, need a lot of room for error. I suppose just going straight granite would be a super safe option but 1: Need to make it that far and 2: To my understanding it would be an absolutely tedious way to play the game. So if stone does feel like the best set I'll just hold that in my back pocket as an emergency button which I will likely be too slow to hit anyway 😛 Sorry for rambling again. Is it obvious I have decision paralysis? I've bounced between characters so much I am convinced level 20 does not exist.
  7. At the moment I'm playing an inv/claw tanker. only level 9 so i couldn't say for sure but it's entertaining so far. I also tried beam/inv sentinel but really not sure how i feel about it. Funny enough the sentinel feels tankier because of the modified defense ability but that would change later on obviously. It feels like, long term, I'm going to want a tanker for easiest, safest soloing. certainly not the fastest though, of course.
  8. How is beam rifle on sentinel? I could just as easily fit it into my concept as i could the energy blade claws. Assuming, of course, i like how they look 😛
  9. I looked at sentinel but didn't really give it much thought since I assumed it would be far squishier than a tank even with defensive powers. I wouldn't even know where to start for them as far as primary goes, although the mentioned inv and wp would likely still be my secondary of choice.
  10. I've been fighting with myself about inv vs wp all night lol. WP was my favorite set on live but from what I can see you really want inv over wp if you're going to stick it out for the long haul, especially on a set like claws that doesn't hog endurance.
  11. Thanks for the advice so far. After hunting around the forums and reading the responses here it's definitely narrowed down to invulnerability or willpower in some form. I have no idea if it will be good but was thinking claws since they have a really nice looking cosmetic that have me a character idea, although an energy bladed sword cosmetic could also work if that power set is just flat out better than claw. Just need to figure out the class... tanker with claws aoe might be interesting? Not sure. Pretty sure I've spent way too much time in this forum and mids the last couple days. Not that I really have any idea how to properly build sets or anything.
  12. Tl;DR: Least buttons, lowest apm, sturdy, able to solo as much as possible. Not necessarily on the highest difficulty or anything like that, but want to at least not be missing any content that provides upgrades for my character. Primarily solo so as not to slow other people down (I have had some...overwhelmingly negative experiences in games when I try to group with people...to say the least). Assuming this is even possible of course. Maybe we can get as close as possible? Also I apologize in advance, I tend to write how I think so it may be a tiny bit disjointed... "Slightly" longer version: So I actually posted a topic similar to this a couple years back, but due to real life issues was unable to do all that much gaming. But now I'm free and back to hopefully enjoy one of my favorite childhood games again. Anyway, I have neuropathy. This means my hands don't work properly. I have slow reaction speed in my hands in general, can't move my fingers particularly fast, and all around just cause me pain if I try to force the issue. I would also like to preemptively respond to two things that get recommended a lot, which I genuinely appreciate the thoughts because they are good ideas, but do not work for me. Those being I cannot use a foot pedal for reasons I would honestly prefer not to go into, and a mouse with many thumb buttons do not work as the neuropathy wrecks my thumbs even worse than my fingers. So having said that, any recommendations? I had originally thought to go with something like a mastermind, especially traps, as I remember them being quite easy back in the day. However, I also remember that was only if the MM was being played poorly as the pets actually required a fair amount of micro management in the form of macros. They were one of those builds that were both simple and weirdly button spammy at the same time. That said, I do enjoy me some masterminds, especially bots, and who knows how this server has balanced them since then? The other obvious answer is an AT with a defensive/armor powerset, like tanker, sentinel, brute, scrapper, etc. AT's that allow me to make as many mistakes as I like and have fewer consequences than other setups. The fact that many of the defensive powersets also happen to be 50-90% passive is a huge bonus for me since it means having far less buttons to hit at any given time. I have always been a big fan of being as tanky as humanly possible in basically any game I play, and I know there are quite a few ways to have powersets in this game that cap you to virtually ever defense/resist at once if built properly. WP was always my favorite back on live, to the point that it was almost all I played and I genuinely forgot most status effects even existed and sometimes got caught by surprise if I ever played anything else because I had no idea some enemies even had knockbacks/downs. Oops? Apparently invul can do even better on this server? No idea. I'm reading all sorts of stuff in these forums while I wait for responses. For the record, while I obviously need to do damage, I am far more concerned with my ability to survive. Dead soloer isn't doing much damage outside of maybe staining the floor after all. My leaning is likely going to be towards a tanker but I very much would like to hear what those more experienced tham I am think, especially since I am unfamiliar with the balance changes from this server. Thank you so much ❤️ Sorry that was so long.
  13. I love the idea of getting a defense boost by kicking somebody in the face. I am kinda starting to lean towards something like inv/rad, especially with all those -def procs. I can't stand missing. Not sure how great it will be long term though.
  14. Thank you for all the advice so far, I've been playing with Mids, doing some looking around, and of course reading all your ideas. I am fairly sure WP, Invuln, or SR is going to be the set I pick for primary due to their mostly passive nature (Dark is actually up there as well but I'm honestly just not that big a fan of Dark). Honestly leaning more towards Invul or WP over SR but it's still there. Secondary is still very up in the air. MA seems nice for the easy defense bonus but a lot of secondary sets obviously have all sorts of benefits. Not to mention MA has pretty poor AoE and I will likely end up raising the number of mobs because tanking more mobs is more fun 😛 I suppose I need to figure out which ones mesh best with those primaries.
  15. So without getting into a ton of detail, I have some hand issues, they don't work right. Haven't played this game in a very long time, trying to figure out the build that requires the least amount of apm that can still be succesful, preferably with solo as the target since I tend to not be comfortable playing with other people due to said hand issues generally making me play fairly underperforming. Tanker seems like the best bet because the defenses would make it more forgiving than other classes to play. Back when I used to play the game, I was WP/SS as WP was the most passive power set tanker had at the time (at least I think it was?). Plus the regen/stamina regen made it easier to play. ith all the new updates this game has gotten thanks to the new servers I wouldn't really know if this is still the case, so I figured my best bet was to ask the people who actually play the game 🙂. I am not particularly attached to any secondary and am completely open to suggestion there, but it would need to be one that doesn't rely on fast actions or combo chains or the like, since I tend to have a lot of difficulty actually pulling those off properly. I would likely not choose SS again considering the crash annoys the heck out of me. It might be minor in the grand scheme of things but nothing annoys me more than having to basically stop playing for the 10s or whatever it was waiting for the crash to pass. Personal prefernce I guess. Thank you in advcance. I really want to get back into this game again but getting some ideas for primary/secondary will help me out immensely with my ability to enjoy the game.
