  1. It's because Paragon Chat doesn't have a server-side database. It trusts your client to store your costumes, and send the costume string through their XMPP chat back end to let people know what your costume is.

The actual game server on the other hand stores your costume in your user data in their server side databse. That's why you have to wait on a character list when you log in, the server is sending your character list to your client. It's why when you click on any of your characters beyond the first character slot, you have to wait a moment before they load, the server is sending the appearance string for that character to your client. Your characters are not stored on your local machine.

Okay, this makes it a lot easier to understand. I can see now how that wouldn't work.

Paragon Chat wasn't COH. It was an XMPP client bolted on to COH's client - assumptions about what is possible in COH on the basis of Paragon Chat are simply baseless.

A search here for OuroDev also brought up nothing.
    Because OuroDev isn't located here.

This is where you'll find them: https://ourowiki.ouro-comdev.com/index.php?title=Main_Page

I learned something new about Paragon Chat today. And I really appreciate that link to OuroDev, thank you! I'll check his stuff out.

Thank you both for the feedback. Maybe down the line, it would be more realistic to hope for NPC costume piece availability before the DBEditor.

  2. The SQLite Database Browser available for Paragon Chat. It allows for players to edit their costumes and allow for geometry manipulation and texture reassignment. This sounds scary, but the simple way of putting it is, "I get access to NPC costume parts I didn't have before." Mother Mayhem's hair? Got it. Ghost Widow's hair? Got it. You want a Crab Spider backpack without being a Crab Spider? Got it. You want to be a Freakshow Tanker or wear their parts? Go nuts! Wanna be a spooky ghost? But of course! Would you like to be entirely made out of crystal? Have some semi-transparent gem textures!

The possibilities are nearly endless. It's a great tool for those with a lot of creativity and desire to really get into character creation, and if you're like me, you have some extremely visually-complex creations in mind. Because both Paragon Chat and Homecoming have its connections, I'm practically on my knees begging Homecoming to allow for DBEditing. Homecoming may be the perfect blend after all if we had access.

I am personally not a programmer, but I do understand if there may be issues with implementing the mod. But, could we please try? Can we pull experienced users together and make this possible? Everyone I have spoken to in-game so far has agreed with me that the DBEditor would be an amazing addition.
