Hey EmpororSteele, I thought I was the only one that built a mind/kin controller back in the day.  What server were you on, may I ask?

I agree with him on one thing.  Leveling a Mind/kin controller will be sssssssssssssslllllllloooooooooooooooowwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww.

Psylanna, my mind/kin controller took me about 2 years to get to level 50.  Of course, I was soloing with her most of the time.  I've recreated her on torchbearer, It's going to be interesting reslotting her all over again.  It's been so long, I don't remember how I did it, I just remember which powers she had.  Most of my slots were taken up with recharge reduction, healing boosts (where applicable) and enhancements that boost how much energy I got back,  I don't know if that helps you, but I thought I would give a shout out the mind/kin build!

And another 50 Mind/Kin but from Virtue. My Mind/Kin took so long to level I've been hesitant to try another and I have been enjoying the luxury of having pets on my dark and illusion controllers.

I mean, I hate people trying to assign the CoV archetypes "equivalents" to the CoH archetypes. It seems to me that around the time they gave up on the list I gave, they also gave up on the idea that archetypes were equal, and more went with the CoV archetypes being more solo friendly and a little less stuck in one role than CoH ATs.

    A tank is agro management.

    A scrapper is DPS.

A blaster is DPS/light crowd control

    A controller is crowd control/support.

    A defender is support/light DPS

    A brute is agro management/DPS.

A stalker at launch was Boss killer (at launch they weren't very good for DPS due to their best damage options typically being to fade in and out of combat for as many crits as they could get, before the ATOs and the stalker changes that put them much closer to scrappers.)

    A corruptor is DPS/Support

    A dominator is crowd control/DPS

    A Mastermind is alpha soak/DPS/Support

There was really no equivalency, yet people constantly tried to shoehorn one in. To say Brutes are tanks is true, but to say they are scrappers is true too. To say dominators are controllers is true, but it is also true to say they are blasters or scrappers. Each CoV archetype is capable of being specced to fill multiple roles fairly well (except launch stalkers which were one-trick ponies), where are CoH archetypes were more about filling one role especially well.

Your post is pretty dead on... From what I remember, brutes tanked day one CoV but they were squishier than a tanker so we usually tried to get two in a group or a MM to help split alpha. But MM's complained when their pets got smashed so they kind of sucked until later levels since it was slow summoning for each group. I ran a Mind/Energy Dom and mostly took down bosses and Lieuts, played more like a scrapper/blapper . I remember there weren't a lot of Dominators, for some reason, and in my 30's and 40's would get tells from people who hadn't even grouped with one before.

  3. So I had a situation in a Synapse TF where I was a Stalker and was basically trying to fulfill the role of stealth to the end. Started recalling our Brutes 1st stating that was the plan( since they were our tanks). A corrupter who followed me to the end ( very nearly dying on the way anyway due their total lack of any stealth) uses their full team TP (without warning of such) after I had half the team to us anyway, which then TPs one of the Brutes into a nearby mob. Corruptor begins to accuse me of trying to tp everyone to their deaths ( which wasn't at all the case, one Brute stating "The first TP was fine, the 2nd is what grabbed us aggro). Get to the last mission, they send a tell saying " I have TP" after I had found the King and was about to start the recall process. I decide then to grab them first. They switch to local so the others never see the message, saying that I should have started at the top of the list, which was a Blaster.

Am I crazy in getting the Tanks first? I'd usually think one would want Tanks,Support, DPS in that order. I mean I'll admit my character wasn't great since I was a Energy Melee/Bio ( Bio is great btw, just not EM) so this was my "one thing" I was gonna try to bring to the table in this run. I had no intention of messing it up in any way.

    Anyone running team stealth (Dark/Storm/Cold)

  4. Take Flares, Blaze, Blazing Bolt, Rain of Fire, Fireball and Inferno. Aim is up to you.

I use Fire Breath and Aim but I'm going off my old Fire Blaster AOE build (Might be outdated).  I have been popping AIM before going into Freezing Rain / RoF/ Thunderclap.  With the -Def from rain and AIM Thunderclap seems to be landing okay.

  5. Recent Task Force with people freaking out right before we started thinking we were going to wipe because of no tanks or brutes. I'm sitting on an Earth/Time controller and there were three other controllers in the group. We obliterated the first few fights and all the voices stopped from then on. I'm guessing there are just a lot of newer players who haven't quite caught on yet.

Hell, I was happy to get a full group much less one of my picking back on live. Low pop was a killer.

  6. I use all my forcefield powers with the exception of detention field and that only comes out when soloing. If other forcefield defenders are only using three of their powers, that might be a clue as to why they're low on the defender list.

My mind controller used all his powers too. That doesn't stop mind control from being weak.

I guess we could give FF a pet maybe it will fix it.

  7. Something that always irked me on live, I'd be running my D3 (dark/dark defender) and there was another defender/controller in the group that just loved to spam their PBAoE heal.  I would be running all over the place spamming darkness and debuffs everywhere, enemies are wiffing left and right, health bars are pegged to full as I nerf mobs accuracy in to the ground.  20 minutes into doing missions and people in the group start saying, "Nice Heals!"  and "Great job healing!".  95% of the time this person is just doing a green laser light show which just looks pretty and somehow everyone thinks thats why everything has run so smoothly...    ::)  :o

It still stings a little.    :-\

Had a FF and a D3 on live and running up a FF now. I can't say things have changed.

  8. Master Mind with dark or time secondary would give you some decent control/debuff/buff/heals plus a way to handle runners. Any controller combos work and are mostly about play style. If you're not certain I'd suggest either Fire/Rad or ill/rad. There are a few defender sets that would work too don't underestimate the dark/dark (Pseudo controller) and Kinetic/anything would be good also.

  9. The wail doesn't have to be sonic it could be psychic. They're supposed to be clairvoyant also in predicting deaths so, psychic is inline. Being they are graveyard related go with Dark as a secondary (Controller - Mind/Dark).
