Resolved: Unable to start game after NVIDIA driver update, issue with driver detection

Win11 system, NVIDIA graphics (GeForce RTX4050, laptop's an ASUS Tuf Gaming rig). I try to load the game and get the following error (I'm including the debug console output as well if that helps):

Steps taken: reboot. power-down and cold powerup. find the OEM driver update for my system and install that. Explicitly tell my system to use the NVIDIA driver for the game.

I have zero clue why the game's ducking about with the Microsoft Basic Display Driver at all (everything else is using the NVIDIA driver)

For any interested, I poked deep in the guts and found the onboard graphics chip (NOT the NVIDIA graphics, the onboard AMD graphics) decided to take a prolonged nap. I twiddled the AMD driver and it woke the chip up.
