I almost always play MMs because... they're interesting and unlike other MMO classes.

I've been branching out a bit and come up with some fun character ideas - but I'm really not familiar with how best to slot my characters.

Specifically, I've been wanting to try to build a water/pain corruptor. Probably not the most ideal of combos, but it's for a specific character idea I have. I just haven't got a clue what the best way to slot it would be! Which powers are useful to slot, which are a waste, etc. I know I'm going to pick up Fly/Hover/Evasive and GW will be my patron, but other than that I feel lost in the woods trying to figure out what to take, leave, and what powers deserve slots/which don't.

Any chance someone out there with the experience I am lacking could put together a quick build in Mids that I could use as a reference to how best to slot that combo?

Build design is going to vary wildly with this combo and depends on your playstyle and what you're doing with it. Pain is best played close to melee with 4 of the powers being PBAoE. With World of Pain and an Epic Shield or Tough you can get away with a high resistance and lower defense setup. Nullify Pain and Soothing Aura ticks healing you also help to counteract steady chip damage with low defense. You could still potentially do something like boost ranged defense and Hover above your team and enemies, dipping down to apply Anguishing Cry.

As a Corruptor you'll probably want to spend less time with the fiddly powers like Enforced Morale or spend too much time spam healing. You can instead slot more into Nullify Pain and Soothing Aura for your own benefit if needed. Soothing Aura can take the Panacea proc and it should also proc on your team. Be aware that while Share Pain is an amazing heal and nice damage buff, you get locked out of self healing for 15s and a reduction to healing for 5s after that. Utilize it very carefully or switch it out for Soothe if you don't like it. Also be aware that the Conduit of Pain rez will give you very nice buffs for 60s, but you get hit with -dmg and -tohit for 30s after that period.

Generally you're going to want to get the recharge on World of Pain down below 90s so it is perma. Slot it mostly with resistance but it's also a nice tohit buff. Also try to get the recharges on Painbringer and Anguishing Cry down as much as possible. Slot Anguishing for -def and it can take up to 3 procs if you have room. You don't need to pick up Hasten, but it will definitely help smooth things out and help your recharge times across Water Blast as well.

In Water Blast, Whirlpool is probably the least proccable power and will be used to tick groups down into Scourge range. Water Burst, Geyser, Dehydrate, and Water Jet if you can swing it are all decently proccable. Tidal Forces gives you Tidal Power stacks and should be used on Geyser for aoe or Water Jet for single targets.

For Soul Mastery, Power Boost probably won't benefit you much outside of boosting heals. Soul Drain is highly desirable and fits with the rest of the PBAoE toolkit.

I threw together a quick build from my Water Corruptor and Pain Defender. It should give you an idea of how to slot it.
