Hello community.

Over the winter break I decided to work on a few builds that I have had laying around. I don't see much on this particular combo for brutes, so let me know how you would go about it and what target numbers you look for.

I am slotting out a boxer themed brute with SS/ SR. I will be taking fighting, speed, leaping and energy mastery for my pools. I need some decent recharge to bring up heavy hitters like Knock Out Blow and will likely need to deal with endurance. I am not sure what my target defense %'s should be or what powers should really get procs or not. With that in mind, what powers make the best spot for mules. Also, target values for regeneration and accuracy if you have them.

I always liked Foot stomp on my SS toons in the past, but if it is skippable, I would prefer as this is supposed to be a heavy weight boxer (no kicking, though kick from fighting pool give a damage bonus to cross punch). Same sort of restriction on Hurl. If I can avoid taking Elude, I think that would be ideal, but I'm not completely opposed to it.

I am working on a build for now, but I recognize that I have a hard time focusing when making these builds and it usually comes out as a complete random mess. I will post what I have so anyone can point out the glaring inconsistencies and redundancies and general foolishness.

Thanks for helping!

I'm sure others will make more specific comments on your build but I wanted to make a few comments.

  1. For concept, do your build however you want!   Have fun with it.  Concept is King which means you can by all rights stop reading now.
  2. For effectiveness, you'd be insane to not pick up foot stomp.  It's your only damaging AoE and it's, by many accounts, one of the key powers of the set.  Not picking it would seriously handicap you in my own opinion.
  3. Recall that with many sets you can use alternate animations.  If I were you I'd explore that with your boxer theme.  Foot stomp, for example, has a ground punching alternative animation.
  4. Personally I think street justice would be a closer fit to your theme.
  5. Finally, rage has a -20% defense debuff at the end.  This is why you don't see SS paired with defensive sets that often.

#4 is the reason it can be quite difficult to pair super strength and super reflexes.  You really want ~65% defense to account for this and while not impossible in final builds it's not easy on a brute.  Far easier on a tanker, but even so in both cases you need to make some final build sacrifices to get there that most would prefer not to.  I've tried both and I was happier with SR/SS tank honestly.

There have been some attempts to change the way rage works recently in beta builds, but for the moment anything making it live is quiet a ways off as the game devs are working to find a way to balance it right.

If I were you, purely for effectiveness and not solely concept, I'd go for Street Justice/super reflexes for a boxer theme.  The combo doesn't have the negative issues with rage and the animations, with the exception of I think one are all mostly punching.

Well, I am annoyed with myself. I just now am learning there are alternate animations. So scrap what I said. The reason I was doing a SS/SR Brute was that I wanted to make a boxer and thought this would work well mostly based on KO Blow and the punches. I started him with the idea that a brute was survivable and had high damage output and I was more concerned with doing more damage. Honestly a scrapper would have also worked, but I liked the idea of fury. I made this guy a while ago and just recently decided to finish bringing him to 50, so now it is time to slot him out. With that in mind, rerolling him and quick leveling is not out of the question, its just kind of sad, but it might be the right answer. Thanks for the advice. I may make a tank SJ/SR Tank boxer and see if I like it better.
