[I finally found a Blaster to enjoy]

for what it's worth....I struggled with certain AT's as well...blasters in particular....my energy/energy (vajazzler) hit 50 a while ago and the toon is super fun to play. 

 

add force feedback and knockback to knockdown to the AOE attacks and you'll be spamming damage

Yes yes....ice is terrible. You should all stay away from it. Dangerous. Keep away.

blasters and scrappers already have damage coverered. Make sentinels buff/debuff harder. leave the damage as it is. Melee buffing/debuffing set. 

[If you only could play 1 tank]

My ice/spines. Locks aggro down hard. roughly 60% smashing def base + energy absorption when i hit the mobs.  never runs out of end. Almost never dies (RNG still gets you sometimes). solid regen as a the second layer. Perma hoarfrost. 

 

My opinion/tactic to max out ice tanks....they want to be played fast....push the pace to stack EA. eff hibernate forever.

Trick arrow/fire is a ranged beast. Good solo...great on teams.

[Mind Control/Mass Confusion recharge needs a buff]

I paired it with storm and force feedback +rech in gale and levitate. It procs often and makes a noticeable difference with Mass confusion. Just hit 50 and love playing the toon.

Pain plays fast but generally isn't clicky. It doesn't have all the slow "setup" issues that some sets have. (i'm looking at you Rad toggles). 

 

Lots of buffs and heals (pbaoe heal and single target). A healing aura that doesn't detoggle if you get mezzed. a pbaoe enemy debuff. pbaoe team buff. a nice combat rez. It likes to play in melee and with a res armor it holds up reasonably well. nice damage boost for the team and a single teammate "murder buff" (+dam, +to hit ,+regen). A "clear mind" type buff that does more than just that. I feel like it's what empathy should have been. 

 

pair it with sonic for the stacking -res debuff on baddies.  it's a little engine that drives teams. I'm frequently the only support toon on 8 man teams and we roll. 

 

IMHO it's quietly a little OP...not much...just enough to make it really fun. 🙂 Your mileage may vary.

my first 50 on live was a rad/rad and have levelled multiple variations so with that in mind....

 

Consider Pain/Sonic. 1 of my 2 favorite defenders for end game.  (The other is a stormy)

I have a 50 poison/dp that i was excited to roll and was reasonably fun to level but is a huge disappointment at end game due to all the mezzing. Not sure I would advise rolling one but your mileage may vary.

my favorite lvl 50 blaster combos with some degree of synergy

 

Fire/TA (2 nukes bruh)

Beam/Dev - pew pew pew

Ice/TA - pocket troller

Rad/Sonic - so many PBAoE's a -res aura

Water/Ice - floppy death for baddies

for what it's worth...earth/sonic is a sleeper. It's meh solo but turns almost any team into a steamroller.

I'm a big advocate of ice tanking IF you're goal is to lockdown as much aggro as possible. Ice will strip aggro from almost anything including other tanks. I think of it as a melee controller.

For an extended fight ice tankers, when built right, are beasty. Frankenslot for regen and get hoarfrost perma (easy).

 

EA stacks with itself so if you slot it for recharge and end mod you'll be way over the softcap.

 

CE reduces incoming damage frequency and raw damage. 

 

You can hibernate if you feel the need but I long since respecced out., 

[Storm/Water Defender or Water/Storm Corr?]

I've levelled multiple storm/ and /storm to 50...For those still levelling their builds...freezing rain is a sneaky end hog. 6 slot it early on for recharge and end red. Get it 6 slotted with a good set later. 

 

Same for Tornado and Thunderstorm. Ignore damage on them while levelling. use them for area denial (thunderstorm) and tornado with a KBtoKD as a hold.

I mashed up brigg's rad/rad tank build with my own and it's a farming beast, doesn't even have T4 yet and it kicks ass on regular content still.

If you disable the mobs ability to stand you have 100% resists and defenses.

necro-ing this post.  Love my storm ice.  kb>kd doesn't work like you'd think with hurricane. Hurricane is primarily repel.
