Hi all, I've been thinking this over as I've struggled with challenges of Warshades in the current game. We often talk about Peacebringers needing changes, but I honestly think they are better off right now than Warshades.

I predicted this day would come. I have WS vs PBs in an excel sheet from years ago, I figured that PBs would be superior, back then PBs were hindered and the hindrance was causing PBs to be considered by some as inferior to WS, one hindrance is less so now without a doubt, thanks mainly to incarnates, another hindrance is less so thanks to other changes ie lightform, IOsets. I'd be happy with all the KB taken out, you could leave it on PBs, and see how that looks, because balance is difficult to achieve. I have 5 concepts on WS alone, you can balance for one concept and then another concept is overkill.

EDIT:  updated build for different pool and switched around some slots to optimize.

I've been looking for a build for a while now and finally sat down to make my own.  Goal was softcap ranged defense as I always hover.  Damage was another goal, along with recharge.  Didn't slot any purples as I'm not ready to invest that much more influence.  Would be interested to see others opinions here... IMO it works well as a team player and certainly has no problem soloing at +2x8, everything is easier on outdoor maps.

I would of moved the set from flamethrower to full auto, then move the set from buckshot to flame thrower, because they get the recharge times down better, then end slot boost range as its perma anyway. Otherwise it's a matter of play it and see.

I know this is for an AR/Devices build but is there a way that someone can show me an adaption for Dual Pistols/ Devices ? i love the build and plugged it all in Pines but i am wondering if the IO sets would come out the same with the modifications or if i need to change some things, Ill attached what i made down below but i dont want to miss out on anything.  Some people recommended using an AR build as a base to start that is why i am here

I kept everything you were going for but just saved on a few slots to give more in targeting drone, taking slots from assault was easy and you shouldn't miss the others really,

  4. I liked this build, so many 45% def builds are so barren for aoes that you wonder how they destroy spawns quickly, I am a triformer myself and like to splatter things all over the park but I have been looking for a human form to work from, and this was good. I can trade defense for offense, I like doing damage. Your build barely dips out to powerpools in comparison to many, just like my triforms, it's good to see this Warshade and not something I might just say, well you could of rolled a sentinel for that. Great build to work from imo.

  5. I think Blapping is a thing, it is a need to be done thing, lets face it other characters you can properly IOset out for their roles, but blapping is unintended, playing outside of game design intent and so out of a comfort zone. Pure blap is like another AT.

Just wanted to add you need some sort of fire attack to ignite Oil Slick. Your charm/taser prestige power has a very high chance of NOT igniting Oil Slick and making the the Oil Slick target disappear which means you won't have any other chances to try to ignite Oil Slick again.

I had to pick up  Field Mastery for Energy Torrent and Explosive Blast to ignite it.  Thematically not what I wanted, I wished they would have had some sort of fire component to Acid or Poison arrow to be able to ignite Oil Slick.

I will say this against Cots and Counsel I am doing 3/8 setting with a TA/Beast ( Semi Petless last pet only ) build. Basic Range cap Hover Blaster.

    Energy proc in acid arrow.

  7. +Regen, +End rec are bonuses I don't see you needing, I would avoid those type of bonuses which will likely mean you add resistance or something else, 4 slotting stamina, I just wouldn't, your end rec should be good without 4 slots. You have your heart set on more dam, clearly go for +dam, I would slot in build up procs, so you add to your damage with all the free slots you save from avoiding +regen and +end rec. Possibly get Assault.

  8. Okay, I can use a proc'd snowstorm to herd, then, frostbite, blizzard, icestorm, frostbreath, block of ice any problems then comes frozen aura (proc'd to compete with Blizzard), then ST mobs. All at 45% def. Every 20s approx. and then if I need to kite aerially snowstorm has minus -fly. I also have an attack chain like yours, def is 45% S/L/E/N ----Sounds interesting to me, thanks for your help.

I changed my Ice/Ice/Ice baby build.  So stop, collaborate and listen.  This ice build is back with a brand new invention.

This made me laugh, but some of what you proceeded to say has made me have another rethink, thanks for your help, yep I am gonna have to rethink it.

  10. Sorry for the necromancy, it just shows I do some research to build before enacting on a build. I made Ice/Ice/Ice, worked out any unnecessary +hp sets as you hit cap so easily and concentrated on softcapping S/L, E/N, however I don't have to need a lot of defense anyway as there is always active forms of damage mitigation which is why I like the Ice epic.

I have no idea of what the sentinel is like ingame, I just know it proved problematic to get it to a point buildwise to say, yeah, that is different, that may have a niche and a different playstyle I think I may give it a go, unlike /SR/Nin which was more hello baby.

I might need some update as incase I may of made a huge mistake. Frigid Shield, Moisture Absorption and Icy Bastion are gone, from my concept how missable/needed are these to any of you ingame?

  11. 1 minute ago, Peacemoon said:

Yes, which is why im debating Tactics on my Earth controller, because every earth power already does -20% defence. Plus with Freezing rain as well, it feels a bit overkill.

If your team orientated, do TFs,  etc a lot, then Gaussian proc build up + def bonus could entice you but I would ask Redlynne about them if I were you, you'll either have the slots or not.

  12. I ran full leaderships on some of my support characters, assault on scrappers, entire leaderships on Willpower characters, bits and pieces here and there... but if you do enough -tohit, maneuvers is less necessary, if you do enough -def then +tohit is less necessary, if you do -res, then just milk that with assault anyway. If your concept or entire build says "Screw what someone else has said, I need the "insert leadership power" because you have the main goal with your concept then clearly , you win. If in your quest for a niche or role within some aspect of the game says you can't afford to take leaderships then it's not a problem nor should it be. Using them in game, you enter some teams, you maybe overbaking something, turn them off for end gain, nothing big is happening turn them off until something is, but experience makes you wise as to when and where the crucial moments are.

Following the trend of Stupid Scrapper Tricks and Crazy Controller Tricks, ...

So what about you? Share your cool accomplishments!

Wow, @Nihilii, you're kind of the type of player I generally hung out with when the game was live, going back to when the STF came out, I knew I could tank it with an SO'd scrapper for a bunch of scrappers (no defs, no cons) but it took a lot of time to get the scrapper team together, there was no incarnates then, but I did the Jade Spider Task Force with a scrapper keeping all hostages alive to get some belief in me, we are going so far back to when the US and EU forums were separated. We died so little on our all scrapper STF we worked out that an MoSTF for an all scrapper team was easily possible, it was everything I need to know and job done in one attempt, one of the scrappers in my team was DSorrow who you linked to by Crazy Controller Tricks. I mainly did Tanks, my tanking that with a Scrapper when it was so much harder was a show of out of the box knowledge. I like what you're doing, it's easier with incarnates in some/most cases but it's still great. Whilst I have been absent it's like you have been living some of my dreams.

Although I switched to Oppressive Gloom on my Brute, I ran Cloak of Fear on my Scrapper. I never tested this, but my understanding from others was that even though Death Shroud means that the feared minions could attack you, they would do so at a reduced frequency. Also, my Scrapper was initially intended as an AV soloer, and sometimes for that I found it useful to turn off Death Shroud and use a crowd of feared and helpless minions as Dark Regeneration fodder for the duration of the fight. Unlike Oppressive Gloom, it shuts them down almost completely like that, no wandering out of range and attacking you with ranged attacks before running back in. And of course it doesn't drain your own health like Oppressive Gloom. I don't like the high endurance cost, though. And nothing I just said is disagreeing with you - Cloak of Fear is situational.

I also think Soul Transfer is skippable, as I prefer to never die, but if I do die while solo, it's nice to get right back in the action without a trip to the hospital. I took it on my Brute, but I think I skipped it on my Scrapper.

This is where I come from too, people say Dark Armour is end heavy, it's not because you don't have to run everything all of the time, part of being good with your character is knowing your enemies, some powers are wasted on enemies, some less so, some not at all. They're situational. I found I didn't even have to use an attack with my character levelling up versus Crey, I was just a dark cloud of doom, stand there let my toggles do the work. Whatever character I am on I have had a kill list levelling up, you're first, you're next and then the whole npc group is easier. Dark regeneration or consumption fodder is like an Invuln keeping mobs alive to improve defense as it tanks an AV, it works.

An experience I had today pretty well encapsulates the Sentinel's role on a team.  In the Mary Macomber TF, I stood where the witches spawn, nuked them as they appeared, soaking the alpha, and then applied vulnerability to the AV, ten times in a row.

That's pretty much the niche I've carved out on teams.  First into a spawn, nuke, soften up hard targets, kill runners.

Oh and if I'm feeling precious I can hoverblast until Dull Pain comes back.

I certainly wouldn't mind a slightly higher damage scalar, but I don't think the AT needs reinventing.

I don't know if the mage tanking will work throughout the game (probably will as IO sets and incarnates change the hardness setting without additional game content) but yeah, they're guards, so that's support fire, taking damage, dictating the battle field to a certain extent, yeah fits well, when players, usually scrapperlocked disappear around the map off into something that's over their heads and other team members can't compromise the main team by supporting them, I'm doing it. If a map is too easy and you need to make it harder splitting the team in parts is good.

There are other reasons why /Bio is lacking for a Tanker. It has zero ways of natively raising S/L defenses so it needs to be brought up with pools and set bonuses. That makes the build tight (no real room for the Presence pool unless deciding to chuck Hasten). Because it relies on set bonuses and pools it doesn't benefit from the extra defense that Tankers get. So it ends being the same as a Scrapper ultimately.

I just made a build, Bio Savage, with Hasten, Presence pool, for invoke panic and unrelenting, 20ft pbaoe fear being a means to lower dps, its got 90% resistance to S/L, as well. That with team support should be more than fine and solo, well can't be too bad. I'm tempted to make it a main now.

  17. 9 hours ago, Sovera said:

I'm not sure if /Bio is suited for a tank. /Bio does not have DDR. /Bio's regen and absorbs are nice but will not be enough to save from a horde of cimemorans wailing on them. CC (constant knockdowns from Footstomp) or secondaries with defense increases (Katana, TW, Staff) will help negate this flaw.

FOR A TANK I am going to say Rad armor.

Bio and Cimerorans, hmm aside from team support, which you make sound, lacking, I'd be tempted to pair Bio with Presence pool and give the ITF a shot using the pbaoe fear and unrelenting for the self res just incase I was wrong about the fear.

  18. Pets, BG mode, buff them and take aggro off them by dealing damage/control/debuff enemies directly yourself or perhaps a taunt power, be the highest threat. I like all options. Also depending on pets, pet placement and/or your position, keep aoes off them on you.

  19. Those that say Dark Armour / Dark Melee sucks are probably doing things wrong, I did Brute and Tank mind you but endurance management was easily done, solved, but in part because of the build. No one is stealing end from the character, it is balanced to other scrappers and by playing to ones needs you get bang for buck out of the build, it's a different breed from others and some sets are high performers on one AT and low performers on another and so I don't know if the sets shine less on a scrapper AT but I can imagine the better players make the scrapper version shine. Those that can't get on with things are just happy to blame anything but themselves with an "If I can't do it, no one can" attitude. I'm always tempted to play all the sucky characters.

Common but not deal breaking problems

    • You put your acid too far away from the center of the battle
    • You tried to put you acid mortar too close or quickly and you get the aggro
    • You get too much aggro trying to place poison trap

If you lowered your threat level via stealth, would the shield generator take aggro, and when you get aggro travel suppression is a factor on repositioning for another placement?
