The intention of the AE was for it to be used to create missions and ideally 5-mission story arcs. It's called the Mission Architect. This is proven by the fact that Paragon Studios did try to take a bat to farming during Live. However, the farming ability stayed in AE for reasons. Be it that the farming population on live lost their shit (which was likely larger/more vocal on live versus here), or the blanket removing EXP also sort-of hurt mission makers.

It's a bug because it was THREE times the exp rather than two. That was the bug. Instead of double (as per the name of the buff setting thing) it was giving triple. That's not some feature, but something no one took notice of until last minute.

Its original intent was that you earned tickets. You spent those tickets to get things.

Thats how I remember it. Live was already clinging along when they finally released AE. Fire farming was a thing in the latter days of Live wasn't it? Thats what I remember.

AE content, as designed, didn't give experience, influence, enhancements, salvage or recipes.  So no, the designers didn't set the XP equation to use a multiplier instead of making it additive intentionally as an additional reward for participating in AE content, because they didn't intend to allow XP in AE.  It was a mistake.  A bug.

When was exp added into AE?

How do you know for sure what you're saying that it was a mistake is true?

Can you offer any further explanation?

You misunderstand. I couldn’t care less that farms exist and I don’t think anyone else needs to get in a twist about it either. People will always seek to maximize advantage; devs will always fix bugs. That’s how it goes.

Nope, I understand. Your post was elaborate and even has metaphors to further elaborate.

You made a statement about food and animals and what happens when you take the food from certain animals.

I asked you a question regarding your post. And you completely dodged it.

If you don't care about it then move on.

Why does the exp buff have to be a bug?

Ever consider that the people who designed AE intended for it to be end game content?

That they may of added the incentive on purpose?

This is a topic for a reason.

Obviously you have a opinion on it otherwise you wouldn't of posted that neat little comparison to animals and food.

Don't you realize how spot on you are with what you posted?

"You see this in nature. When there is a source of food, something comes along to consume it. The population which prefers that excess of food now booms. Then the food source goes away and that population falls away, or moves somewhere else, leaving ripples in the other populations as it goes."

(If this is indeed your mindset — an adversarial us-versus-the-devs 'we must defeat the system' mentality — I am not surprised you take changes personally. But I respectfully submit that that mentality that is your problem.)

    Ok Mr Smith.

We will take our blue pill and stay in line thanks for your great advice.

I agree with your analogy about the food. Thats exactly how fire farmers were treated isn't it?

I've built for +damage on a StJ/SR Stalker. I think it's the fastest Stalker StJ pylon time with 84s/584 dps. But I haven't looked at the pylon thread in a year, it may have been beaten already. It had a passive damage bonus of +58%. That total includes Leadership Assault's +10.5% and Assault Radial Hydrid's passive +10% damage.

I have a SR scrapper he's nearly untouchable.

How does that play out for a stalker when taking hits from 10 or more +4 enemies?

HC is going to do what the feel like. And other than giving feedback or joining the beta testing channel to give feedback about it during testing phases, complaining on the forums after the fact isn't going to do much.

Well for one it generates a lot of forum activity. Some of its hilarious.

My stalker has base 63.5% +dmg because the idea is for them to not be my defender who doesn't get to stab things with a sword.  I have enough recharge and no endurance issue and wasn't planning to tank for anyone's team so I think it's working fine.

63% just from enhancements? or does a stalker have innate bonuses?

Oh for sure, so that would be like an S tier building, right? How would City Hall stack up to that? A tier maybe?

Well it just seemed to me that was the goal of whoever built it.

They put almost as much of the main content they could in fort trident plus all the vendors and crafting tables and trims.

    It is neat.

And I think when passing through it. It seems busier and fuller than other buildings.

    If you say so. lol

EDIT: Continues farming with alts that are not just fire resistant and aren't tanks or brutes.

Yes farming in AE is now not much different than fighting level 54's patrolling in any zone.

    Didn't you notice?

Typically I know the vast majority of us build with +rech, +def being the main goals of set bonuses. I'm wondering if anyone has ever tried to build for max +DMG bonuses and if so, what AT/powerset and how well did it work for you? I assume defenders would be the first choice for doing something like this, but I dunno.

If you can build towards that without sacrificing what you need it's a welcome perk.

Hybrid archetypes seam to benefit alot from it. (sent/corruptor) At least that's how it feels to me.

Also I would say folks need to get away from just using Fire farmers. Doms can farm, Blasters can farm, Corrupters can farm, Tankers can farm. All with farming builds that have nothing to do with Fire Aura or Fire Melee.

Folks need to learn to diversify.

The changes made the game less diverse.

That already existed in Trident Base though (with the addition of the ASF) except everyone kept forgetting it was there.

    Thanks for pointing this out.

I didn't even realize that the FCB is really fort trident.

I never even used fort trident that much even though it's in the fast travel menu I had visited it once along while ago and forgot about it just as you described.

I can't blame you there, but HC operates more on the idea of sticking to what might fit the game but in their own way. I don't know if we would have gotten Seismic Blast, Electric Affinity (I am getting the name wrong), or the ASF from Paragon Studios. I have my doubts on it at least.

Well, no server is going to stick to what Live was. Live was becoming a subscription/money focused F2P game hellhole and let's be real that it was only going to get worse. Hell, things were probably going to get worse in general. I like to believe that what HC is doing is a good vision. A vision that not everyone agrees with, and that's entirely fine.

I'm all for the addition of new content. But not at all for the removing of parts which were long standing.

No server is going to stick to what Live was.

But my point remains the same part of the reason why I personally am enjoying HC is because it seems to be more akin to Live than others.

Well, if the 'removal of the buff in AE' you're talking about here is the changes to double XP boosters, that was a bug fix

Moving the AE out of Atlas really doesn't do anything besides make you hop over to Kings Row or Pocket D. This would be a huge deal if we were still playing, I dunno, EverQuest, and crossing over from one zone to another was a prospectively hours-long journey full of death, dismemberment and getting disconnected because your sibling decided to call their best friend without saying anything to you (again) and you're on dialup, but fortunately this is 2022 and you can just shuffle over there in a minute or two if you're being lazy about it. As an added bonus, you won't accidentally skip leg day

Homecoming moves away from how the live game was with every new update, but that isn't a bad thing. Short of leaving the client in a completely stagnant state devoid of any updates or alterations, change wasn't just an inevitability, it's integral to keeping the playerbase interested, engaged and coming back to play

Literally every successful private server for any other MMO has made alterations either in the interest of QOL and general improvements or because the developers have a different vision than the live team did. Private servers that leave years- or decades-old games completely untouched either fail and die off, or they're still around and their populations serve as a reminder that change is as important here on Homecoming as it is with any live MMO - no matter how good the original game WAS, no one is going to stick around to play the same old content on the same old classes with the same old abilities forever

But the takeaway here should be that nearly two decades after the game came out, almost a decade after - as far as we knew at the time - it was seemingly gone for good, we now have a fully-functional, completely free version of City of Heroes to play; to share with those who missed this game, and with those who never got to experience the game in the first place. We have City of Heroes back. And that's something we very well could've never had back to begin with.

Thanks for telling me a lot of neat things that I already knew.

I also played Everquest at launch and watch it change over the years. I was a druid and I healed hundreds of EQ'ers

I've played almost every mmorpg in fact up until around 12 years ago.

Man, wait until you see the revamped Freedom Corp HQ that the building interior is supposed to get at a later date.

I can see the vision there.

I personally will always rather be in the field.

But I could see myself enjoying the FCB.

Don't get me wrong I can see how cool it is.

And with one quick swoop through I also came to the conclusion that it should be way more streamline to be what it is trying to be. So it doesn't surprise me that they will revamp it.
