I'm still kind of shocked when people actually do use it (MSR raids for example), it's just so weird to see it actually working.

There’s a guy on Excelsior who lobbies for people to use the LFG queue to kick off an SBB, without pre-forming a team. Has to explain for people to queue up solo with “willing to join” selected. I’ve successfully joined once. But every time, people chime in, telling the guy that he needs to do things the “right” way (gather a team, then queue.)

Clearly, he’s trying to get folks used to blind-faith LFG queueing, but it’s an uphill battle.

I’ve tried to join his SBBs at times, but once you queue, you are stuck waiting and that blows, not knowing if critical mass will happen or not. I often give up and just do one of my missions, which is reliable.

Alright then. I'll test it on various maps, but I will try not to include any vital information in it.

Yeah, I tend to see how dialogue tests, and if it fires off reasonably, that's good. Otherwise I push it into the completion text stage or rely on Clue Text (but I would prefer things to work the way the architect interface implies)

  3. I don't think this is a problem specific to you. I feel like in-game, the unaware dialog and active dialog makes sense. The NPC tends to speak when you are near and when line of sight is hit, they fire off their active dialog.

In AE missions, it seems like unaware and active fires off when you enter the map. Or when the NPC spawns in response to some condition, unaware and active fires off immediately.

    It is annoying.

But I want to say that ive seen it work, depending on the map. I wish I could give better data for you.

A professionally created mission or story arc.

I don't have a long experience in running AE missions, but those that I have run seem a bit off. Once I've repeated the professional content enough, then I can see myself going to AE and doing more content there. However, I don't necessarily feel like anything from AE is actually "content" because its watered down and made by amateur players. Not to be too harsh.

What the devs use to create missions seems to be more robust than anything players have access to in AE. Sure, a lot of the options and systems are shared, but it will always be inferior to what can be created using the actual software the devs used/use.

I don't want to feel this way because more content is always great, but from what I have seen, even the highest rating AE content doesn't feel like it's as good as real content.

I know a lot of players use AE because they want to rush and powerlevel or grind or whatever else they decide to do. But can anyone recommend a mission or two on AE that gives the most robust experience possible for an AE mission?  No farming missions. If I feel I have to do farming, then I definitely need a big break from the game. I never want to feel like I have to rush and usually feel more like I should slow down lol.

    I appreciate it. Thanks.

Definitely go to the Mission Architect section of the forum. You’ll find story arcs being advertised, some being reviewed, some looking for feedback. There is a lot of charm to be found.

By the way, if you are worried about having 250 prismatic aethers, next month is the Halloween event and each character (that hasn't already done so) can earn up to 10 prismatics by participating in Trick or Treat leagues. There are 5 elite bosses, and there are defeat badges for each boss that gets you 2 prismatics per badge, so 10 total. So if you have a bunch of characters who haven't already done this, you can get a bunch of prismatics.

  6. I started playing on Virtue one month after launch and played until the sunset. My main tank, First of Equals, kept Faathim the Kind company during the last moments of the game.

I've recreated most of my old favorites from Virtue here -

    • First of Equals (invul/superstrong tank)
    • Playboy Avenger (martial arts/super reflexes scrapper)
    • Fantastic Foe (Fire Armor/Stone Melee tank)
    • Most Likely to Slay (broadsword/regen scrapper)
    • Amazing Faux Nemesis (Technically a peacebringer - humanoid form only. He's a reprogrammed Fake Nem with a captive Kheldian in the suit's boiler)

I can't remember what my global was on Live. It *might* have been @Fantastic Foe but I'm not sure.

I soloed A Lot on Live, except with a few friends duoing/trioing, and occasionally with larger teams from the Amazings SG, who would form up on Mondays for Amazing Monday. (Everyone had to have Amazing in their name ...)

I recreated my first AE story arc that I made on Live - EXPLODING PLANET (currently arc 22784) and because Homecoming has prestige costs were zeroed out, my supergroup base on Homecoming looks so so so so so much better than what I could afford on Live (my SG base is open for tourism - the passcode is Solitude-784, designed to be reminiscent of someone's icy fortress (I used a lot of water textures and glass floors here and there to give as much of an icy look as I could...))

Should anyone remember me (I fully understand if you don't) my global here on Homecoming is @First of Equals

If you think it's that good, sure. It's my first one so it's VERY rough in places, and not verry ambitious aside from getting a few basic techniques down and figuring out how things might work for later.

I’m looking forward to playing it - specifically because it seems like you were inspired in part to make it for your SG mates, and I respect that a lot.

I just ran this one.  Fun time.  My fully-slotted Inv/SS tanker ("Splendidman") didn't have much trouble with Despoticus.

The violations of the Ocelot Rule bothered me more in this arc than those in Allegedly, Your Death.  "My" dialog seemed more extensive in this one, and it didn't seem much like Superman's voice.  FWIW, I think you could remove a lot of the PC's dialog without losing anything.  There seems to be a convention in CoX to have contacts react to things your character never actually said.  The PC's words and reactions are more or less implied, which lets the player fill in their own character's voice.

Zhym, thanks for running the arc and this feedback. I'm always interested in hearing about how easy or tough a character does against Despoticus, and I specifically asked about Ocelot violation feedback, so this is all good info for me to think about. (I agree with you that this is less successful than Allegedly, Your Death, which is think was more fun to read as well.)

I've run a couple of them, and plan to run the others.  They're fun stories.  But I'm going to stick to indexing only the arcs @TerroirNoir3 has posted—I can barely keep up with those right now.  But if (okay, who am I kidding?  When) @TerroirNoir3 runs those as well, I'll add them!

Zhym, I totally respect your decision! Don't sweat it. And thanks for having this thread.

    Well thanks!

I really wasn't expecting this much engagement.

Well my first story can be found under:

    Arc ID: 68988

    Title: Bass and Blood

    My game handle is: @Blackbird4329

I just ran it with my level 50 inv/ss tank (and I'm re-running it with my level 42 beam rifle/traps corrupter)

I liked it, but I'm going to call out some typos and make some suggestions below. But I appreciated you making an arc, sharing it with us, and for using AE not just for Fire Farming or whatever. You've given us a quick arc to play, and I can see running a few different characters through it.

    Spoiler

Suggestion: You can have the mission one intro text set the scene a little bit more. I'd recommend having Riggs mention reports of some Hooded Figure. That way, the objective Hooded Figure in mission 1 is established. (Also, I recommend having the navigation text say "Find the Hooded Figure", instead of defaulting to the name)

I liked the first mission map, good choice for the rave, and having the Hooded figure boss being attended by the enemies in the second mission is a good introduction.

The clue at the end of mission one nicely sets up the transition into mission two, but it might be good to reinforce it with mission end text with Riggs. Along the lines of "You tell Riggs you saw people being dragged off to the cemetery, and Riggs complains about being undermanned."

Mission Two: There's a typo in the objectives: it says 2 Free Raver, Free Raaver - I recommend you clean up the Raaver typo, but also consider saying Ravers to Free in the plural text, and then Last Raver to Free in the singular text. That way, it'll say at the beginning 3 Ravers to Free, then 2 Ravers to Free, then Last Raver to Free. I know that there's a fourth raver which has the "where are the others?" objective text - I do like that.

The action words "Free" and "Find" actually in their names though - Find Addision, Find Sharron probably doesn't need to be there. Just their names.

Did you mean to call them Cultis Hopeful or Cultist Hopeful? (I do kind of like the word Cultis if intentional)

I appreciated the one person to be rescued wrapped in thorns - it stands out as unusual on the map, making them easier to find. Saving them gets the system text about another person being drug away into the mausoleum, which is good and you reinforce it with the pop-up which is also good.

Riggs though, has trouble speaking "you say you saw a group run im to a mausoleum" - should be "into"

The clue that is titled "You See Them" with the word "Follow" in the body should probably be expanded, this feels like a placeholder.

Mission 3 - the objective is Vampire Lord, and it should probably be "Find Vampire Lord" or "Defeat Vampire Lord" but ideally, there should be some kind of foreshadowing to indicate you're looking for a vampire lord.  I'd almost rather the first objective be "Find the villain responsible" or something.

The top title should be Descend, not Descemd

After you defeat Oraya the Vampire Lord, you have to find the hostage - the objective text says 1 Find the Hostage , look at the text, I think you have that in the wrong navigation because it's giving a number. it probably needs to go in the singular navigation.

Finding the hostage dead had cool system text. The objective became Huh? and there's no Clue text to explain why you're going Huh? You might want to add a clue when the hostage is found that you hear Oraya in the distance, taunting you.

BTW, some of her text is weird. "You relive this is hopeless" should be "you realize". "I smell you I tast you" should be taste, not tast.

"you are Hundred 100s to early to trully kill me" - I don't really know what she's saying here. It's truly, not trully

She's a good fight. I had to stop and leave for work, so my corrupter hasn't finished her off for the 3rd time yet (this is my second play through using a different character account) - I'll finish it up and give it a good rating.

It's fun mission, any changes I'm saying are just to clean up and add some connective text. All the mechanics are pretty great.

Thanks again for sharing your arc id and wanting to get some mission architect adventuring going

I've updated the program guide.  I think I managed to get everything since the last update, but if I missed anything, please let me know.

Darmian gave me great feedback on The Clash of the Communist Kaiju (arc 25408) when I posted it here a few years ago, and I was happy that several people here ran through Allegedly, Your Death (arc 65297) last year - the feedback taught me what the Ocelot Rule is. Just letting you know if you want to include these along with my Despoticus. This way, there will be arcs with a Superman-ish vibe, a Fantastic Four-ish vibe, and a Batman-ish vibe (all non-infringing-ish vibes...) represented.

    Hey everyone!!

The Mission Architect system is one of City of Heroes’ most underrated gems. A lot of us have put time into stories But a lot of them go unnoticed, buried under the weight of AE farm maps.

    I’d like to change that.

I’m putting together a coalition of creators as it were.. who want to:

    • Share the arcs we’ve worked hard on.
    • Actually play each other’s content.
    • Give feedback, encouragement, and visibility to missions that deserve love.
    • Keep it fun and community-driven.

    [snip]

    How to Join

    • Reply here with your global name and the arc ID(s) you’d like to share.
    • If you don’t build, but you love playing story-driven content, you’re still welcome—more players means more feedback and fun.

@blackbird4329 , I respect you wanting to organize this.

In the AE terminal, you’ll find my current 8 arcs under @First of Equals - I’ll hold off suggesting any arc ids at the moment, since I’ve previously advertised most of my arcs in this forum thread and received solid feedback.

(6 of my arcs are intended to give a certain comics vibe, 2 exist for certain game mechanics and aren’t really story-driven. Well, one of them has a story, I guess.)

I’ll keep an eye on this post for the calling-out of the arc ID to play in a given month.

I tend to play roughly 25% of my characters per month so if an arc is fun, I might run it multiple times for comparisons of how characters do.

I’ll be happy to broadcast the arc ID getting attention in-game. I think it is good to remind people that the mission architect exists outside of a farming context as well.

  13. It all depends!

Hamis allow you to boost several attributes per hami per slot with SO values, but IOs tend to eventually give better bonuses than SOs but just in one area per slot, and there's the benefit of the set bonuses.

If you have a bunch of hamis, you can slot them, but only if you think it's good.

You don't have to be The Most Useful, and no one can really tell you how to be the most useful.

I've slotted Hamis on powers where I don't have that many slots, and put IO sets in powers where I have lots of slots, to get the most bonuses, but again, it's kind of an art and not a science.

  14. I just think there should be a suggestion forum like we have here, rather than having suggestions spread throughout the forums.

The other day, a suggestion post provided me game-changing information for my level 50 Praetorian - that the Belladonna Vetrano arc was available in the Crystal of Ice and Fire mission list, since blueside and redside content is offered to goldsiders even if they can't get to the mission door, but BV's are all in Night Ward. I wouldn't have discovered that if I hadn't visited a suggestion thread asking for pie-in-the-sky likely-unimplementable suggestions for goldside content.

You can keep a group stationary by creating a non-objective friendly boss and surrounding them with minions. They'll stay in place and not attack anything, unless they happen to end up near an enemy group or something.

your advice was very helpful! Since these are civilians, I have the boss flee the moment they take damage, and I can include helpful dialogue.
