Yeah, as much as I wish I could make a toon that transforms that much, best the game can give us right now is complicated alien symbiotes and rping with costume slots.
-
Throw in some eldritch, cosmic horror and I'm in. A summoned Shoggoth or Shantak could be cool.
-
Ah, I'll rephrase the naming of the power as I was not intending for it to have negative effects. I just like the idea of a powered melee weapon that a toon could pick up and keep. I'll actually stick to my view on temporary powers though. Yeah, you can keep some of them but you don't really get the same variety that you do with a pool. And you can't slot them. I'll renamed Cursed Weapon to Powered Weapon to avoid the confusion you spoke up.
-
I can only speak for myself when I say... "Style." That and I have some kind of "ism" that makes it annoying that there is a baller snake sorcerer looking staff and all we can do is be aggressively cool color guard. Also, for the room at large, nobody has any comments or ideas for the cursed weapon or packin heat epic pools ideas? If anything, I feel that would fill a gap in the vibes.

Well, keep in mind that the basis of Powered Staff as a blast ability is that it is just based on throwing powers from your glorified super stick. If you are magic origin, then say it is your magical staff and you select a staff in customization that is tailored to your vibe. Then per your headcanon and how it looks, you're casting spells with a magic stick. However, if you are a tech or science toon, you could just pick a staff appearance that suits your vibe and now you are flinging power with your science technostick. It is like how one character might use Kinetic Melee and make it out like they are casting chi blasts through their magic Tai Chi while another character is using bracer based technology that amplifies kinetic force until they project it outward. Both are valid and honestly, all powers are a form of fashion anyways. So all my idea is a power set that would feel different as a blast type because A. it uses a prop, IE staff in this case and B. per my idea do combo elements or like Alchemist's idea, being switchable in regards to elements.
-
Eh, the entire power set framework is kinda based on that. Depending on your vibe, you're having to headcanon why your science dark melee or radiation melee is science or magic or technology or natural. A powered item is in line with that framework. A staff that flings energy is functionally just as much a magic staff as it is alien tech depending on how you have designed the toon in question. Ultimately, this is a matter of taste and opinion. I get that. It is why I posed my idea as inclusive to your idea as well as others. But I get what you're saying. So I'll leave it at that since I don't think we will convince each other any differently.

I actually like that a lot. I had also considered an "ammo swap" mechanic but I like the vibe of yours. If they don't go for the idea of dual element blasts like in mine, I definitely support the idea of being able to swap between negative, energy, and psionic damage with the power item.

In fairness, a powered staff easily cosplays as the same as a magic set. You're using the staff to fling energy about. And it still vibes with Living Spell Summoning. I do see your reasoning for wanting an actual Magic power set.

Oh, the magic staff idea? Honestly Powered staff isn't really a change but does include the concept of a techno staff or otherwise empowered staff. Or were you talking about a different idea?
-
I feel for you, friend. Perhaps the Horrid Swarm could be worms, though we might just be moving the goalpost to hassle others. I am fortunate that the water blast and now marine affinity doesn't trigger my thasslophobia. Oh, did you see the newer ideas I posted in the edit?

The arachnoids must be nightmare fuel for you then. I took your thought into consideration when I redid the first post. I also added more stuff as I got more ideas.
-
Updated first post with the idea of a Powered Staff. You and the other poster are correct that since Magic is an origin (though Sorcery is its own pool thus showing that toons can learn magic) I should have it be its own thing. Besides it is perfectly valid that it could be a techno staff. Sufficiently advanced tech, etc etc.

Weapon of Power: As a blast ability, this would be a customizable weapon such as a sword or mace and firing blast of power. This occurred to me as a way to synchronize with blasters who are using the ninja training so they can fire blasts with the weapon in hand. Weapon Assault, a powered weapon that fires blasts and can be used in melee. Epic Power Pool: Powered Weapon: A reason to get a lethal/elemental damage and have a cool weapon. It should come with a ranged attack, have a melee aoe, a single target melee attack, and a control ability. I can also see it having a non-toggle buff where it granted lethal/smash def for a short period of time. While I see this mainly being available to normally ranged ATs, I like the idea of including it for melee ATs too. Some of the power sets don't have great AoE and this could be an interesting way to augment it. It also allows a space for people to feel like their character has earned an interesting item to use. Packed Heat: Perhaps I am too southern and American but I also like the idea of a pool where your hero literally got their own gun. While my first instinct is to say a rifle, it might be best as a single hand gun. It could come with a control ability fear affect of shooting in the air to startle enemies. Now obviously, the first criticism is temp powers and the second criticism is to just play a Blaster. First, you can't put slots on temp power or do a lot with them. Second, this is for new ways for melee ATs to get ranged powers that doesn't bend their theme of learning Mu Magic, Soul, developing eye beams, etc. For specifics, a ranged attack with lethal damage, a ranged cone, a PBAoE Fear affect, and a non-toggle buff called Armor Piercing that adds a -res for a short time to your gun attacks.
