At this point one of the teammates, a controller, yells at me for telling him how to play because he knows how to play, and I shouldn't give advice since I let two people die.

Like i'm sonic/sonic, if you do something like run away from me and get yourself killed, that is on you.

My recommendation is to just let them die and not tell them how to play. If they verbally get after you first, then it’s fine to defend yourself and point out what they are doing to contribute to their own deaths.

  2. I don’t have Mids loaded so I can’t talk specifics to this build, but the general advice from @Maelwys looks strong. Procs are very helpful.

My one specific is that if you are going to do PBAOE then strongly slotting hot feet for slow makes a tremendous difference. You can’t hurt people if they run out of your radius. Without a good boost to the slow effect hot feet will simply drive everyone away. My very extensive experience in this shows that slow is far more valuable than damage on Hot Feet.

  3. For a couple of years I was making thousands of trades a day. Even had a fair amount of automation going. But then the systems started to reject more and more transactions (with the note: "Please wait a moment."). At that point it stopped being worth it.

My gig was buying packs, opening them en mass, converting the enhancements until I got saleable ones. Rinse and repeat. Quite profitable. 5% if I just dumped the cargo. 50%+ if I used converters and priced things not too aggressively. ABIG added bonus is that I ended up with a thousands of useful things like team inspirations and amplifiers. (Here's an experiment. Stock up on team damage/accuracy enhancements. Get on a team fighting AVs. See how well the team is doing. After awhile, use enough of those inspirations to max everyone's damage. I usually go with 4 larges. Then watch what happens. Struggling teams instantly turn into romping teams. Surprising numbers of players never understand what changed. Inspirations are vastly under appreciated)

I got so tired of the increasing "wait a moment" notes that I stopped supplying lots of great things to the market for cheap prices.

Probably wasn't helped by the discovery/creation of the winter pack opening macroes either. Poor servers having to deal with a bunch of us spam opening hundreds of packs in seconds.

I am so very, very guilty of this. I had things highly automated and would just buy, open, take from email, post to AH, rinse and repeat. Extremely profitable.

  5. When Homecoming became known to me I rolled a Storm/Ice defender for nostalgic reasons. I choose to take three rain powers: Blizzard, Ice Storm and Freezing Rain. I LOVE this toon and those rain powers are a good part of why.

I tried looking around, including at City of Data 2.0, to see if there might be a build that could fit even more rain powers, but wasn't able to find any.

I figured I'd tap into the collective knowledge here. Any thoughts?

And, really, these guys, in particular the GMs, are every bit as good as the ones that were around during live.

a big +1 in this, even before adjusting for the size of their team and resources they have. They do a solid job with little money or support.

    Shame on you.

The shame is on you. A REAL marketeer would have sensed opportunity AND helped herokind by going to all your alts, turning merits into boosters and selling them for 1.3 million.

By providing liquidity you help everyone except the marketeer who made this scheme. If you do it right they get a large amount of inventory they have to sell at the prevailing rate or just eat.

At level 44 now. I'm enjoying the toon a lot. It's versatile and fairly powerful.

Mez protection remains a serious pain. Any recommendations?

At 50 I'm totally sold on Fire/time. Very tanky. On an ITF +4 I'd run around and aggro mobs to bring them to the group. Wasn't foolproof, once or twice I got busy and did not re-up farsight and faceplanted, but very, very solid. Looking forward to incarnate and a little relief from the endurance puddle. I'm fully IOed up, which helps, but it still need a bit.

As an update, I’m now 28 or 29 and coming into my own. Not as Tanky as a tanker, but getting close.

im looking forward to fire imps. I think they’ll increase my DPS significantly

You are missing Farsight and Power Boost to start.

To add, I have one at 32, but shelved as I play other things. I only have common IO slotting, so that will get fixed the next time I want to give it a push. It is one of the few builds I have shelved which hasn't gotten deleted simply because on paper I see no reason for it not to be one of the best Controllers despite my lack of seeing them played.

My fire/time controller is pretty tanky. Big defense buffs + big tohit debuffs, combined with double slow around me (hot feet & time's juncture) means that not only mobs almost can not hit me, they also can not run away and they even have their damage reduced, while they unsuccessfully try to flee. Now throw in the huge recharge buff and the res debuff...

Do you have some tips for this? I created a Fire/Time based on this post and so far I’m pretty underwhelmed. Granted, I’m only level 20, but I already have hot feet and Time’s juncture. While good, they hardly make me tank like.

Guidance would be appreciated, up to an including how you see this working in Incarnate.

Hmmm. I think that guy was one toke over the line last night. I think it is best we ignore that post.

Or... he uses that mechanic to his advantage (I believe that in long ago past posts he explained how, but I don't remember off hand) and he's using this to admit there's something there, without going into detail or drawing too much attention to it.

I say, if you have more than 50 billion, you probably don't need to market any more - unless it's just fun/habitual/interesting. Clearly, for some of us, it's quite interesting.
I have been trying really hard to leave it alone and explore other facets of the game. But old habits do not die easily.

50 Billion? For me it's 15 Billion. I realized a while ago that I am a satisfiser. That is to say, I'm usually not looking for the optimal solution, just a good enough one. I'm highly motivated to play the market and make money up until a point. I find repeatedly that at about 15 Billion my motivation wanes and I'd rather play the game. Then, when funds get a bit lower, I dive back in until funds are replenished.

I just find that at 15 Billion I have more than enough to buy anything I want for as many alts as I want. I never lack. I've had a good bit more at times (and probably a huge amount more in inventory in bases that I never use). I certainly have the skills to make a lot more, but I'm quite happy being "Fairly Rich" and can't be bothered to get to "Very Rich" let alone "Uber Rich" or "Plaid". I'm not in the running to be the first to 1 Trillion, simply because having money beyond the amount to buy everything I need seems like a waste of my time.

Of course, if you find it interesting or just like trying to get to a trillion, more power to you! It's just not my cup of tea.

  14. A few of my characters make a lot of use of amplifiers. I especially like the status protection, but all 3 are useful. A year or two ago I did a brisk trade in packs. I opened thousands and made billions of Inf. But after I sold everything that could be sold I started making use of the free amplifiers and inspirations (available anywhere, anytime via email). I had hundreds of free amplifiers and grew a bit addicted to them.

Fast forward to late 2021. I'm running low on amplifiers and decide I'll use the winter event to load up on Winter packs and amplifiers. But, I had completely forgotten that winter packs don't have amplifiers. So, since I've got more inf than I know what to do with, I decide I'll just go buy them from the P2W vendor. But I get there and find they are 2.5 million a piece! That's 60 million to fuel up on all 3 for 8 hours.

This is pocket change, but it sticks in my craw.... so I liquidate my winter pack holdings (at considerable gain) and buy regular packs. Hundreds or thousands of them. Open them all and flood the market with Archetype IOs. All to just stock up on amplifiers.

I suspect things like this happen every day and drive much of the market.

  16. You should all cancel your huge bid orders now. The lower price is just not going to happen. While it is true that in past years they've changed the price on days other than when the Winter Event goes live, that absolutely won't happen this year. So just cancel those bids and check again in a few months... 😉
