I'm late for this but if you have the test server installed, the ether particules watchamacallit are free so you can check all the costumes.

Sure you can 3d print characters.

 

The basic problem is that they are pretty blocky without the "magic" of render smoothing and all the surface textures.

 

So you can either get a very angular mini or you need to use some good sculpting / modeling skills to give them a good look.

 

But it is very possible.
