  1. I'm not sure where to post this thought but I figure y'all would understand better than anyone.

Yesterday was my 32nd Birthday. 9 years ago we lost City of Heroes when NCSoft decided to shut it down. What an awful birthday present. To spend a night saying goodbye to something I had loved for 6 years, my home away from home, my escape from a world I struggled to cope with.

    BUT

this year, 17 years after the game first launched, and 9 after it was shut down, my life is more together than ever. I'm in my own apartment, keeping myself afloat, working on myself, AND we have Homecoming! It's been a rough life but I'm very lucky to have these things now. I don't tend to think of myself as sentimental but City of Heroes was important to me and losing it on my birthday was like a punch to the stomach. While I don't have as much time to play as I used to I feel so much better knowing it's here now.

So thank y'all for being a part of Homecoming. Hope you're all having a great day!

  2. Take the mace ranged attacks, venom grenade, and then take one big melee attack to make use of the hide crit at least once. You can hop in, crit, and then hop out for more blasting. I'd probably suggest focusing on team support after that, medicine or additional Leadership toggles, so you're bringing more to the table than just a few mace beams.

  3. Can't say enough how much I love my Beam/Tac Arrow. Sounds clunky at first, but it's a really efficient set with a great smattering of tools that are useful from range. It's also nice that it provides a not insignificant layer of defense with Gymnastics and flash arrow, and a great passive that screams TAKE ME.

My biggest complaint about blaster secondaries is typically that many of the powers are skippable, but that's not a problem here.

what electric needs is actual damage reduction to go with that end drain and -recovery. If every attack caused 7% -dam, (no stacking with itself) the 'weakness' secondary effect might have some real utility against something other than minions (which are easily wiped)

I like this suggestion. I would even be happy with -Dam replacing all of the secondary effects. On the flip side, if electric blast had -Dam, that would break the electricity theme across all ATs since the other Electric sets would still be recovery/end mod oriented (worth noting here that Radiation already does this with the contaminated effect being on some sets and not others). If that -Dam effect were present on Sentinel Electric Blast, I'd be rolling an Elec/Bio or /Regen right now. And if it were on Electric Melee?? I shudder to think of the repercussions of that sort of change.

Electric Assault seems fine without a T4 blast, especially if you're Mind or Gravity and have a single target option there. It's worth noting that Zapp can kinda fill the role of a T4 now that we have instant in-combat snipes.

  5. Content is the obvious answer. Absolutely more patterns and costume pieces if possible, and more powersets- even if they're just hobbled together moves from other sets. A multi-element set maybe, a Weapons secondary for the Dominator with Assault Rifle and rifle butt attacks, y'know something that could be pieced together with already existing components and assets. I'd love to see a small writing team to help advance some of the plots perhaps. I think the top of my wishlist as a roleplayer in terms of writing would be a chance for the RP community to chat with the writers and bounce ideas around- but I know adding this sort of content even on an official server is unlikely at this point.

But the biggest things for me are probably 1.) that any monetization not be as egregious as modern games are. Compare the pricing model for this during live and, say, Fortnite, and you'll see exactly what I mean. And 2.) that the P2W vendors as well as any new QoL changes that we've grown used to on Homecoming stay.

I'd also like a character transfer to an official server because I don't wanna build up 50's AGAIN AGAIN, but that one is probably not possible RIP. Anyway thanks for reading.

EDIT: An elaboration on the RP/Writer collab pitch, I mention it simply because the RP community has been around forever, and some of us have written things that are not only better than some of the original content, but also make unforgettable characters and concepts that could be be made part of the game world itself. I love Ascendant, and I think his memory is cherished by many of us here, and I think opportunities for more characters and stories to become immortalized into the game in some way would make this place feel even more like a home (y'know, HOME coming? Get it? I'l shut up now).

  6. Hello everyone! As I neared 50 I wanted to work on a build for my Earth/Fire, so after some research on these forums looking at similar builds, primarily The_Cheeseman's amazing Mind/Fire/Fire setup (I pretty much stole all of the slotting for Fiery Assault. And the Incarnate stuff. Thanks Cheesy!)

So this is what I came up with! Softcapped to ranged, permadom, but I'd never played either of these sets before this character so there's probably something I'm slotting wrong. I've been considering dropping Fire Breath for Melt Armor. I rarely hit more than 2 things at a time with Fire Breath, and the recovery feels quite long, so maybe the extra debuff stacked on the -Def and -ToHit from Earth Control would be more effective for me? Am I way off base. Anyway here it is:

I think people are gonna mostly agree with this list. I think I'd swap Ice control and Elec Control. Maybe bump gravity up a little. I would absolutely move Radiation Assault up to B tier, but I agree that it has some issues. In particular, Contaminated doesn't seem very useful without Irradiated Ground to help apply it. I think the set is bound for some tweaking in the future for this reason so D tier feels right for now. If anything ever gets done to turn up the chances of contaminated happening I think It'll be a solid AoE set choice.

Out of curiosity, I know Fusion makes your attacks have a 100% chance of applying Contaminated, but does that apply to your Control set as well? Being able to Fusion -> Hold a target and guarantee Contaminated for your Devastating Blow would immediately convince me to go back to my Earth/Rad and respec.

  8. Got this Tank to 50 and she's tons of fun. First time playing both of these sets to 50 and im not sure how to slot everything. I have more defense than necessary so I might wanna change some stuff. I have Grant Cover mostly because it fits the character. Wasn't sure how to slot Shield Charge.

Oh! And the empty slot in Hand Clap is the Knockback to Knockdown IO. My version of pines doesn't have that apparently.

  9. I've had some interesting conversations with people in-game about the Sentinel, and so far speculation among most folks is that the Sentinel would be strong in PvP. I'm not personally well-versed in PvP post i13, so I'd rather not speculate myself, but I immediately started digging through the sets and looking for something that could be good. I don't know if Defense or Resistance is better for PvP, but I do know that CC protection is helpful. With that in mind, Bio Armor, Fiery Aura, Ice Armor, and Energy Aura all seem pretty good, while Ice, Sonic, Psychic, and Rad Blast sets seem like the better choices.  How do experienced PvPers feel about the Sentinel within the context of PvP?

  10. I thought XP and rewards were based on the percentage of damage that you did to an enemy vs. their total hit points, but I have no idea how it relates to getting "credit" for kills on a mission counter.

    This.

And with all the bonus XP we've been getting and all it's not something worth getting mad about. It's not like whoever gets the most kills gets the biggest number next to their name on the scoreboard at the end of the game. It's not that kind of game.

  11. I nominate Excelsior as the official totally unofficial RP server.

This time, instead of being Unofficially Official like Virtue, it should be Officially Official and clearly labeled at server select.

  12. Checking in! Formerly @MazzoGrave. A lot has changed, but I'm glad to be back and can't wait for the RP folks to settle on a server and start building up once again. Back then I mostly played my Crab Tank, Mazzo Grave/Webmaster Grave. But I also had some other characters like the Coniferous Man (now known as The Deciduous Man) and Captain Mask!

  13. So does that mean Torchbearer is as much a regular server as Excelsior? I was under the impression Torchbearer was a test server and Excelsior was not. Am I correct?

Legit question: Why is Magic such a popular origin?

It's the origin that most easily explains any power combinations. No science or tech or genetics requiring a backstory or explainations, just one word: Magic. Done. Easy. Or at least that's my theory.
