It's a slow day at work today. I was hoping that the forums would entertain me. With the servers being down you'd think there'd be at least one thread with a high flameage rating. Nope.

I'm not even angry, just disappointed. 😃

Could have had my day, started out with two drunken 'home displaced' individuals knife fighting with box cutters at 0730.

Ended with a three car pile up.  Yaay.

When you chose alternate colors for Arsenal Assault, the particle effects for the shots disappear.

When you set it back to original, it does not fix this in the costume creator.

    Tested on Ars/Ars Dominator.

Also when armor is set to black for banes, most of the prestige costumes fail to show up properly, I think it's an issue with the textures of the costume pieces.

For example: When coloring effect: entropic, or effect darkness: the particle effects seem to be heavily muted instead of the bright flashy particles we see on regular costumes.

    Same for Luminous, and flames.

Tested on my Bane Operative Ebony, top left color square black, suspect interaction with costume textures layers are muting the colors of the auras.

These are the exact sort of things to post in --> here <--- if it's a new bug to page 7, otherwise ---> here! <---

If the thread for them already exists, post your own information in that thread - if not, it's worth making a new one for each separate issue.

    Thank you, Unitas.

I will post them in the first one.

But Flea! Beta testing is serious business! No jokes allowed!

Speaking of, how exactly do I need to report things I've found on the test server?

There are a couple of rather glaring issues I noticed.

Clowns! Gotta have Clowns!  Elemental Spirits (non-daemonic), Bugs, and humanoid golems.  😄

If they did an Air master - Powers: Vacuum, Wind blades/lance, Implosion, and Air Hammer/Ball are musts IMO.

    No clowns!

    *Shudders*

I'd like an 'improvised weaponry' primary attack set.

Imagine a brawler, you would have the usual animations but instead of jab you'd smash a bottle on their head.

Punch would be grabbing a nearby street sign (spawned not a real world constant asset) and swing it.

Basically John McClane or, Jet Li, or  Jackie Chan, anything near me is a weapon.

I'd like actual kung fu please, Martial Arts is fine, but it's more of a strange mix of  Karate and Muay Thai  (Especially with the punch animations), give me some flowing, pretty attacks like in Marital Assault, but as a primary, it could even have a combo system like Dual Blades (well...more like water, DB's combo system is...lackluster).

Infernal powers, like bale flames and such, for those Hell Birthed types.

Cosmic powers not tied to a space squid/crab/person would be lovely.

Maybe a kinetic armor set, a set that would take the impacts and use them to buff the player, and a bouncing travel power like Speedball before he went all Emo.

But Johnny Unitas, why can't you just say:

and save all of those extra words?

No , Johnny couldn't be cause all of those extra words were utterly necessary.

Both the devs and we players (who are testing) need to do better, it is not simply the fault of one group or the other.

Case in point, you snipped all of his post away and tried to boil it down to a boilerplate one sentence answer, and it didn't work.

This is amazing to hear!!  I just wish I had known about this server 4 years ago.  I knew someone was attempting to resurrect the game from the graveyard, but I didn't expect them to include newer content!  Yes, I miss playing the original CoH, it was my first MMO on PC (I played Everquest on PS2, and then FF XI also on PS2).  I had a really good high end character that I wanted to recreate, but couldn't remember her details (she went by the name Phoenix).  Again, more than anything, I am very happy and excited that the game has been launched.

    Welcome Home!

UI scaling is also pretty huge. If you have a 1080p monitor you won't think about it, but 4K monitors are a significant part of the market now, and the game is borderline unplayable at that high resolution with default UI scaling.

I set my UI to 113%, and I play at 2560x1440 resolution.  Standard UI size is le tiny.

  9. I just learned of this today, as I've been gone from Everlasting a bit.

Punchy was a friend, constant banter, ideas, chatter, there will be a hole where she occupied in my heart.

Characters in the Super Fight Pals (At least one still there, and will never leave it either).

This. Hurts.  And  Punchy will forever be missed!

I recently had the misfortune of using EA's launcher app.  I'm astounded by how bad it is.  Seriously, it's atrocious.  It's ridiculously bloated, badly coded, and hammers your network connection like it's a sex toy.  The interface is dull and uninspired, and throws a pop-up on the screen that pins itself to the foreground.  It forgets login information at random.  It uses almost a gigabyte of storage.  A gig, with no textures, no flashy graphics, no massive database, just the base launcher.  I had to wait three hours for it to finish downloading when I was forced to install it to access that game, and then another three hours when it updated itself.

That brings me to the worst offence it commits - it doesn't even work half the time.  I've had to force-kill and restart it up to a dozen times to get it to work, and that's a regular thing.  Every time I want to play the game linked to it, I go through that.  When it does work, it takes several minutes to launch the game, and it's always with a panic notification about not being able to load cloud data (that notification exists purely to manipulate the user into turning on cloud storage by playing on his/her fear of losing data... and that pisses me off).  By contrast, a game using the same engine and many of the same assets launches in seconds through Steam.  Without the drama queen tactics.

EA is a multi-billion dollar company, it could've afforded the best programmers and designers in the world... and it puts out a launcher that looks and functions like it was created by a 9 year old using a WYSIWYG program to piece it together.  Practically unlimited funds, and they shit that thing out.  They can't even blame their framework, Qt, because I have other programs that use it and they work.  No, they somehow found a way to take something functional and fuck it up in every way they could... and still published it, like they were proud of their origami ashtray soaked in kerosene.  "Here, we made this!  Use it!"

Actually, I apologize, that was a bit over the top.  9 year olds aren't that incompetent.  Sorry, kids, my bad.

Yes, I'm fully aware that their launcher is actually a marketplace they're desperately hoping people will use so they don't have to give Valve a dime when someone buys their software on Steam.  And that it's supposed to "prevent" piracy... by making their games harder to access, bombarding the user with invasive marketing and selling their telemetry to spambotters... or just leaving their databases wide open to hackers...

    Irony: Palpable.

Contrast that with the HC Launcher.  3.66 megabytes.  Simple, clean interface.  Gives access to all of the HC shards, delivers news and updates, doesn't devour resources... oh, and it works.  It just works.  No hoops to jump through, no frustration, no annoyance, it just fucking works.  And this is something cobbled together by our guys and girls in their spare time because they wanted to make logging into Co* faster and easier.  This freeware launcher outperforms the multi-billion dollar company launcher in every way, without even trying.

    I

Oh that's easy, the Origin App was released on June 3rd 2011.

And given EA's love of absolutely binning teams that make software for them, they probably launched it, fired the team and used interns to keep it running.

Of course those interns has no idea how to actually -fix- anything so they just kept it running, and given that EA's doors are like a blender on turbo with a motor that's not electric but nitro-methane powered, the original interns are probably long gone. (That is why they couldn't include multiplayer in the Mass Effect Legendary Edition, they closed that studio that made that part and fired/laid off all of the employees, so no one was around to import it, they (Bioware) actually admitted they didn't have any of the assets or files pertaining to that, they DON'T HAVE CODE THEY PAID FOR.

With that said, is it any wonder their software was so bad they had to entirely replace it with the EA App in October of last year?

I mean they change creative directors and project leads like a rapper changes his fitted cap and shoes, Anthem had at least four directors.

And it was all EA's fault, so yeah, badly written program that was more than likely meant to be replaced maybe in four years, certainly not meant to last 11 years (Origin got discontinued in october 2022). Most likely by a programming studio that no longer exists because EA cannibalized them for other projects, or maybe it was a side project they had some devs doing.

  11. Welcome home, your room is as you left it, the house now has central air and heat.

I put down carpet, dinner is at six. There are pots of coffee and tea in the kitchen on warmers if you want any.

Like others have said, Blaster is your AT, Mutation is your origin (What enhancements you may use)

I have plenty of blasters: I have a 50 energy/energy/energy Relucent who I remade here.

    I have a fire/fire/mace, a fire/temporal/mace, a water/energy, a water/temporal, an rad/atomic, an energy/atomic, , a wind/iforgethersecondary, a sonic/sonic, a sonic/ma, a dual pistols/ma, a dp/temporal, an ice/ice, a double psionic...

So much to choose from, and blasters aren't even my primary loves, it's Brutes, Stalkers, Tanks, Scrappers, and THEN blasters!

Way back when i first started playing,  I wasn't too enthused. I had tried an empathy defender, and I think a katana/dark scrapper, and neither of them impressed me too much.

But one day I join a team, and I keep seeing dudes getting THROWN INTO THE AIR and I'm like "woah, what powerset is that?!" and the person said "Mind Control!" and I was all "oh damn, I gots to roll me one of those!"

    And so I did.

What got me hooked is that I didn't have a backstory for her at first. I knew she was psychic, so I made sure her name, Patty-Sue Ivanova, accronym'd to "PSI" because I'm effin' clever like that =P

So I decided that SHE didn't know her backstory either, just her name. And as I played through the game, I carefully read all the mission text and clues to see which character or enemy group she would most likely be tied to.

The Skulls, Hellions or CoT? Nah, she wasn't magical. Outcasts? They were mutants (what I had put her origin as), but they were all elementalists, not, er, mentalists. Council? They had some good tech, buuut they seemed too focused on turning people into werewolves and vampires, not making them psychic.

Just as I started to doubt I'd be able to tie PSI's origins to anything in the game, I started running the Crey arcs. And HO-LE crapoli, it all fell together! Brainwashing? Cloning supers? Their BOSS was a pale-skinned, dark-haired woman with Psychic powers?!?!

It was PERFECT! i "discovered" that it would totally fit that PSI could be, not just another Crey project, but a clone of the countess herself! Like a body-double, in case anything ever happened to CC herself, and she needed a new body to put her mind into (like what Prof X wound up doing in both the comics and the movies, to a degree).

I never quite figured out how Crey would have let this project slip through their fingers (it mostly revolves around the body double gaining sentience and murdering her way out of the lab), but I've gotten some good mileage out of the concept. And so even though she isn't my most fun or powerful character (devs plz buff MC k thnx), she still remains my favorite!

That is actually how all of Crey's experiments/projects/secrets escape. Murdering their way out.

It's like Cerberus in Mass Effect, every time they experiment that experiment goes homicidal and takes over the base.  EVERY TIME.

But as a main, I don't really have -one- per say.

Acrogirl was my main back on old live, she's here too but I lost interest.

    I rp Dread-Childe on Everlasting, she's a rad/dark brute

I have way too many characters to even think about 'main-ing'.

Altitis isn't a disease for me, it's  a constant state of existence.

I never considered it griefing myself.  However, I never considered it griefing or rude if someone jumped in on a one on one match in a open pvp zone.  Want to one on one without someone jumping in, use arena 😛

IIRC, doing that means a loss of merits for the league, defeating pylons to drop the shield rewards vanguard merits per pylon defeat.

That deprives the gathered players of an earned reward, which can be considered greifing.

  14. I still play, both sides, still love Imperial Agent.

There's been a MASSIVE overhaul of the systems, unlocking the actual classes from being side based, but still origin based

My jedi can have a full jedi guardian build, or a fully powered sith juggernaut build (As in the actual powers/abilities)

Same for tech, I have a trooper who uses blaster rifle and imperial agent knife attacks as a spec ops trooper.

The new UI however, is eye searing and very very bad.

Tah I also played secret world, recently went back and all of my characters are gone so *Shrug* not playing that again ever.
