I just found out this was a thing.  I played when the game first launched and now when I'm trying to recreate my first character, the  name is already taken.

You should definitely post the name and server. Whoever has it might be willing to give it up unless it is also important to them.

  2. Hi all,

Since the apocalypse, my play time in CoH specifically, and video games in general, has been minimal. So when I have logged on to CoH Homecoming, it has been mission and character focused, or focused on chatting with friends. While I was big into base constuction in 2019I have not paid significant attention to basebuilding since February/March 2020.

Hence my question. What's new and noteworthy from the past year of updates? More items? More functionality? More NPCs? More tab organization? More customization? Do we still have an advocate in the developer/admin area? Hit me with everything and blow my mind with what I have missed!

(Also, have we gotten ways to export/import bases? I'd really like to start over but I also don't want to lose what I have.... Sigh)

  3. I would love to have this feature. I do understand that it probably would have a huge data storage impact,, as everyone would make tons of SGs and form coalitions just for the extra storage. But we make alts now and store stuff in the auction house, so maybe there would not be that much difference.

I would be happy if we could get just one base with storage access by all characters on an account, regardless of SG affiliation. I have characters in multiple SGs with different friends. and it would be great if I could access my personal storage base with characters I have in other SGs.

  4. I loved this thread on Virtue. There is a similar thread in the Everlasting forum. In support of this concept, I will release one. Please only grab it if you are giving it a good home.

    Released: Watchguard

  5. If I were to build a base on this server, is there any way I can save the file for it for use on other servers?

You can make a demorecord of your base and save that file. That doesn't guarantee another server will allow you to give them a copy of the demorecord and import your base.

And those demo records can be used to recreate your base in Paragon Chat. I have several old bases from the live game there, for when I'm feeling nostalgic.

Does this work for anyone with Homecoming demorecords? My original "Live" demorecords work in Paragon Chat, but none of my i25 demos do.

  6. I don't recall a duplicate function, but I thought there was a way to replicate the last selection, so you didn't have to continue clicking back to the bar. So kind of like you click and lock your item selection, then place as many of them as you want. Of course I have had dreams of being able to build bases again, so this could have been part of one of those realities. :)

  7. What is everyone using for floors on multistory builds? I have tried using floor plates, but they are of course invisible on the bottom, as are wood surfaces. I have also tried flipping additional plates over, which works but is very tedious and takes twice the number of base items. I seem to remember using desks or counters in days past, but I want to make sure I am not making it three times as hard for no reason.

(Some suggestions from Discord were using dock platforms and metal dividers. This is what I am working with at the moment, but wanted to see what others have used).

  8. Most of the people I see that don't like the name release policy as is are still in favor of some kind of policy. My opinion is the 1-5 limit needs increased to 45 or 60 days, and the "forever" limit needs to be changed to level 40.

I would love if they could also find a way to give one name lock token to each person, but i realize with the ease of making multiple accounts it could be a problem. Maybe one per IP?

  9. So how do I do that?  Name release could occur at any moment over the coming...let's see...months and years.

Am I going to log in constantly over the coming months and years to try for the name?  That seems a bit deranged.  It will result in stress and disappointment for me over and over yet have a pretty low chance of ever resulting in my getting the name.

/firend Brutality. Watch your friends list when you log in. When you don't see Brutality, go get the name. Pretty simple and takes relatively little time and effort.

  10. As such, I would personally like to see something implemented where you also gain protection for a name based on time playing the character, to offer roleplayers and content runners the same protections offered powergamers at a quicker pace than they might get it otherwise, since as-is the policy rewards powergamers an inordinate amount.

    Good points here

  11. If you can't find a name you are dying for, don't forget your adjectives! I tried for the name "Beast" which was obviously taken, but "Brutal Beast" and "Bouncing Beast" were both available. So was "Beast of King's Row" and "King Beast". (I didn't use any of those, so feel free to take them).

Searching for a good descriptive addition to the name also inspires other ideas to tighten up your roleplay. Beast is okay, but Beast of King's Row opens up the story in so many ways.

  12. For others interested in #3 below, there is a name swap thread for Everlasting in that servers Forum section here https://forums.homecomingservers.com/index.php/topic,1625.0.html

Having a naming policy is fine, I just don't particularly like this one. It's fine for those of us who are active, but for those like my wife who play very sporadically it is more of a burden and becomes more like a job. I want her to play with me, but if she loses the name of a character that is dear to her, she will quit playing. That's not a threat, it's just sad a reality for many more casual players.

That said, I see the need for something. Name camping is a problem for new players who can't find a name they want. Here are my suggestions:

    (1) I would prefer the "permanent" names be lowered to level 40. I would also prefer the 1-5 names be doubled to 60 days, and 6-20 increased to 120 days. I would like a permanent name lock on a name that matches your global, though I realize that would be difficult to stop everyone from making multiple accounts. Maybe limit it to globals created prior to May 20?

    (2) It would be great for names to not be unique. I know it might take some coding, but doesn't all of the improvements we are getting? It's just a matter of priority. The names are already not unique per shard. Could the code be fooled to think each global name is it's own shard for purposes of character name?

    (3) Is there a name request thread? A name trade thread? Something like that. If not, someone please start one for each server/shard. Those were always the best on Virtue. You will find that many people are willing to give up a name to a good home. (And PM me a link, I want to participate!).
