With a little work, Hero 1 could work.  There is tech in the game that changes environment depending on the lead player (in teams, or just each solo individual) and their accomplishments.  Such as the first mission for Matthew Habashy, where you have to go put down some Hellions and then when you return to that spot Hellions are under control by the police.  When you finish out the extended arc, his wife will be standing next to him next to City Hall.

Maybe have... whoever... standing in the Ms. Liberty spot in AP, and all of the Hero 1 references work fine... but once the player completes a task force or whatever to help restore Hero 1, the old trainer disappears for that player and is replaced by Hero 1.

That's not a bad idea at all, would also work for other characters such as "Tyrant as Statesman" for example. But I do like the idea of Hero 1 coming back since his "death" was such a big deal back in issue 1 (the no wearing capes thing). Just absolutely would not want to start newbies out with him.

I agree, and would include Hero 1 to the blacklist, sadly. There is far too much in the game referring to how dead he is and you visit his memorial a bunch of times.

It would be a bit confusing if a new player is introduced directly to him and then later encounters him as the honoree.

    BaBs would have my vote.

Didn't think of Hero 1 but yes he would be even worse then Statesman that way.

BaB seems like the obvious choice, I even mentioned him before, but thinking about it there's one good argument to not use him as the AP trainer. It's a long shot, but I've always hoped that as the devs get better that they would be able to create new maps/arcs and that we would eventually "take back Galaxy City". This wouldn't be like what one of the other servers is doing and bring back the original Galaxy City as it was, this would be a "new" destroyed Galaxy City still in the grips of the Shivans and either a trial or hazard zone. If that ever happened you'd absolutely expect BaB to come out of retirement and help lead the charge to take it back. If it was up to me, and assuming it was a hazard zone, I'd make him the trainer there and put him in his old spot, even though it's completely destroyed with Shivans all around, and have him say something indicating that that's *his* spot and no Shivan is going to force him from it again.

I know that will almost certainly never happen, or if it does it'll be years away, but I can hope.

  3. While I wouldn't mind putting someone else in Ms. Liberty's place in AP in order to give her more focus as leader of the Vindicators or even taking a place in the Freedom Phalanx with Statesmans death, I'd be hesitant to replace her with someone that only makes sense in the end-game, like Tyrant as Statesman for example. Remember that while many of us have played CoX for years and are familiar with updates to the story/lore, like Statesmans death, we do get new people who aren't familiar with CoX lore. Especially since AP is where almost all newbies show up and is the first thing they see and their first encounter with lore/stories. I think it'd be a bit jarring to them to encounter "Statesman", then find out he dies but is still in AP. Even if we go with the "Tyrant becomes Statesman" idea it'd be a bit odd until it happened in-game. Now having BaB, another hero from the lore that isn't in use (Maybe Horus or even long lost Thunderclap?), or even a newly made hero as part of an intro of new stories, arcs and lore would be fine.

  4. This sounds like it'd be fun to join in with my praetorian character, Pacification Unit 58. He's a die-hard loyalist that currently spends most of his time in Atlas Park and Pocket D trying to hand out brochures on the benefits of migrating from "the mirror universe" to Praetoria. Though I'm also Pacific time and currently on Everlasting.

  5. So I've finally come up with a build that I think will work for me.

Biggest change from my last post is swapping Assault for Aim. and Maneuvers for Hasten. Despite it's downtime, Aim should allow me to do more damage then Assault for less End cost, at the expense of needing to juggle it into my rotations. With Ageless I'll be able to alternate aim with build up for almost 100% uptime between them. Hasten seems like overkill and I miss the 2-3% def from maneuvers, but adding hasten gives me 100% uptime on bonfire even before ageless. That along with the lowered overall end drain, is going to help a lot when I'm exemplared. Also, it helps me get Phase Shift and RotP back up faster. I also made some tweaks to my sets to give myself a few extra bonuses as well as optimize some bonuses I was missing out on due to the rule of fives. I also went with Degenerative instead of Diagmagnetic. While the equivalent of at least 5% def to everything I hit was tempting, I think I'll be able to clear minions quickly enough with this build that the -tohit won't matter and big enemies, like AV's, would just resist diamagnetic but are where degenerate does the most damage. The biggest improvement from when I first started come from taking out fire breath, not because of fire breaths slow activation but because I was able to assign it's slots elsewhere, like bonfire, to make my other powers more effective.

  6. So after looking through other Fire3 builds, and trying out Nayeh's suggestions, I've come up with the following build.

While I'm not certain I want to respec into it yet, I am considering it. My def is still right around 30% as before, but I do have a slight boost to resist. My endurance drain with everything running, and no ageless, is about the same. Though I don't have consume anymore for times when I need a recharge. I of course have Phase Shift as an "oh @#$% button assuming I don't get alpha'd and I can also provide slight def boosts to teammates with grant invisibility. The thing I like most about this potential build though is the increase in strength that bonfire gets. It's now at almost 100% uptime even without ageless and more AoE soft hold is less chances to die. The best part of it is the increase to DPS by removing FSC and adding burn back in. Burn's natural higher damage, along with it's shorter activation time, means I can do more damage faster by jumping in to perform PBAOE's. For some reason MID's says I have a 24% boost to all damage with this build over my previous one though I think that might be a glitch as I can't figure out where it's coming from. Overall slightly more blapperish then I'd prefer, and I I'm still looking for ways to improve it, but I think this is a step in the right direction.

  7. I did originally have Burn but got rid of it for Hot Feet because the time it took to go FSC/Burn/Inferno for massive PBAOE damage was too long. Enemies would either run away or kill me and it was also a bit overkill with the damage. I don't know why I didn't think of removing FSC instead of Burn but it probably is the better way to go considering time vs. damage.

Fire Breath is part of my ranged AoE attack chain that I use in conjunction with fireball to "2 shot" large groups of minions at a distance. It's also a secondary soft hold by having the knockdown procs on it. I suppose I could get rid of it by being willing to wade into melee and use my PBAOE's more, like burn for example, to make up for it. Feels Blapperish to me but I'm not completely opposed to going that route.

I admit I hadn't even considered Phase Shift. It'd give 30 seconds of "breathing room" if things go bad. That's plenty of time to either run away or just let Cauterizing Aura heal me up. The downside is that it would cost me 2 powers to get. Also it won't help if I get alpha'd/swarmed so hard I don't have time to react.

It's definitely something to think about, I could swap FSC for burn (probably going to do that regardless), fire breath for grant invisibility, then maneuvers for phase shift. I would lose a few percentage points of def on everything and lower my ranged AoE damage but I could more easily rush in to use PBAOE/melee attacks while Bonfire/RoF is going, then escape with phase shift if I get in trouble with enemies that resist the knockdown. It would also give me extra slots (taken from Fire Breath) to put elsewhere, like into Bonfire, possibly making it a more useful soft hold. I'm not convinced this is what I should do but as I said it's definitely something to think about and I'll probably at least spec it out in mids to see what the numbers look like.

  8.

So I got my fire/fire/fire blaster to L50 some time ago and have been working unlocking incarnate abilities, collecting badges, flashbacks, etc. It's fun but I have a tendency to die quite frequently while doing so, especially when solo. While I'm a firm believer that blasters should focus on DPS first and everything else should be second to that, if I can find ways to avoid dying without cutting into my DPS I'd like to do so. So I'm looking for advice and suggestions to tweak my build if possible. One thing to be aware of, because of theme this character *must* be fire/fire/fire and have super jump. So here is what I currently have planned out, this isn't where my character is currently at of course, just what I've planned. Funds are not a concern for me.

As you can see, I have about 30% def for melee, ranged, and AoE which is as high as I've been able to get without removing powers I need for either my single target or AoE attack chains. The obvious thing to do is to go into the fighting pool but spending three powers for Weave cuts into something else so badly which is why I've ended up with Maneuvers and Stealth instead. I have Bonfire as my primary AoE soft control power with procs in Rain of Fire, Fireball, and Breath of Fire for additional AoE knockdown soft holds.
