  1. Regarding the whole “It doesn’t make sense for heroes to have to become villains to go to the bad side of town and vice versa” thing, I think it’s worth remembering that Paragon City and the Rogue Isles are in different COUNTRIES, so it’s not simply a case of going to “The Bad Side of Town.”

That said, I don’t think it would be a bad idea take a page from Monster Island. That place is a villain-exclusive zone, but is obviously just the northern part of Peregrine Island. With that in mind, perhaps there can be room for other zones that are similar, allowing players to properly play the part of a Villain menacing Paragon.

I, for one, don't mind the general run-down oppressive style of the Rogue Isles. It kinda suits the place's history as a colonial outlaw haven which eventually became the seat of power for the world's premier nebulous evil organization... that said, Cap au Diable and St. Martial could both use some redesigning because they simply don't feel that much like what they're supposed to be.

I do also mind just how few zones there are, with few contacts to do missions for. Could make for a pretty repetitive experience if you roll multiple villains.

Furthermore, like a lot of people in this thread, I too am frustrated by how the game always treats the player as a lackey for hire who doesn't have a personality beyond what the contacts need of them, as well as how little actual villainy you get to do - it's all either petty and small in scope, or fighting the more established villain factions like a hero except with edgy "evil" reasons slapped on it. There's just so few moments where I could really feel like I'm my own villain running my own evil plans...

Regarding what could be done to increase the appeal, I'd just second the suggestions of adding more non-cooperative SFs and - in a much longer term - setting up longer story arcs where a player could actually realize their own evil agenda, even if to a limited extent.

More or less my thoughts. There simply isn’t as much villain-exclusive content as there is hero-exclusive content.

To name a good example, let’s take a look at the trial zone page on the wiki: https://homecoming.wiki/wiki/Trial_Zone

The ONLY Villain-Exclusive Trial Zone is Monster Island. Everything else is either hero-exclusive or co-op. (Although the page lists the Abyss as a villain zone, the page for the Abyss notes that it’s a co-op zone.)

Actually, I have but I will admit I did get the sorcery pool confused with travel (since travel is the one I usually do), you can blame that on age, and if you all find it necessary to attack that it will be funny when it happens to you. But you can continue showing bravery by riding on other people's coattails.

As far as the forums suggestions, suggestions in all game forums are for suggestions only, the feedback part is for feedback about the game only, and most people already know this. The reason is if you allow people's suggestions open for attack by cowards (such as these) you'll show others that their suggestions are unwelcome. As for the feedback issue, Games don't normally allow feedback on suggestions because of the attacks (bullies) they love to show themselves because of a lack of a spine.

Okay, I’ll concede that I made an assumption and I was wrong. I’m sorry. However, most of the other posters here are not so much attacking you as they are providing feedback.

And from my perspective, you were asking for something already in the game. On both fronts, actually. (The “instant max level” option is available via the “Temporal Warrior” option in character creation, though your character is limited to PVP and Pocket D if you pick it.) If you were specifically referring to primary powers rather than power pools, then believe it or not, I actually think that’s a decent idea. I’ve commented on a “magic wand” thread to mention my idea of a magic (or whatever you roleplay it as) set that can change elemental properties, like Dual Pistols.

But regardless, you don’t do yourself any favors by treating every comment that doesn’t outright agree as an attack on you. That just serves to alienate people that would be open for a proper discussion.

the sorcery power pool as you all like to bring up is nothing more than travel powers (the pool is travel other than 2 skills).

Last time I checked suggestions don't require feedback, if you don't like the suggestion then ignore it.

You’ve never actually used the Sorcery pool, or taken the time to look up what it has, have you? There’s only one travel power in it!

I would agree with that except for the line used. The line is: "Price, huh? Do you want my soul? I'm not really using it...". That is not using an expression. That is quite plainly offering up your soul, with no idea how to actually do so.

(Edit: Apologies for the very rapid response. I was adding the last edit on the OP, which took me 4 tries because the site kept logging me off and not saving what I typed.... So I was already on the page when you posted your response.)

Honestly, I always interpreted that line in a tongue in cheek way. You know how people sometimes claim evil people are “soulless”? This line rings similar bells.

You would basically have to recode all the powers to include options using different animations.  I don't have the numbers offhand, but does the animation time for M30 grenade match that of the hand-thrown varieties?  When you say "offhand flamethrower", do you mean that your character would lower the AR while still holding it in one hand, then fire a flamethrower in the other, or just switch to it?

I imagined lowering the AR while still holding it, firing the flamethrower with the other hand.

This would require whole new animations, and models, to be generated since the point of origin for the attack would have to be shifted to the new location and aligned with the new model. There is also still the problem of having to overhaul the costume creator to allow a single character's single power set to use more than one weapon unless the offhand flamethrower was a set model that players could not choose their preferred model from.

To clarify, I didn't envision allowing the players to choose what the off hand flamethrower looked like. I just thought they could maybe make a smaller version of the flamethrower model that's used by some enemies (like the Longbow Flamethrower), and just have it appear out of nowhere when the character uses the attack. Either that or make some kind of aerosol flamethrower.

At any rate, I was kinda spitballing with this topic, and I kinda get that it may not be feasible. But hey, I thought it was worth asking to find out.

  8. For flavor potential, I was wondering if would be at all feasible to add animation options to M30 Grenade, Flamethrower, and Ignite.

Specifically, allowing the grenade to be thrown, and for our characters to use an off-hand handheld flamethrower, instead of all three using an under barrel attachment that not every available model has.

  9. Really like all the stuff here. Makes me envious of you guys who are able to come up with actual powersets. All I can come up with are concepts.

That said, maybe someone can think of something based on my concept. I’ve been thinking about the Symphony Control set, and I’ve come up with another idea. Perhaps the music fx and animations could be recycled to make a song-themed support set?

I feel like this one could be combined under a number of handheld devices that project some kind of visual effect with damage and/or effects.  I like the idea of a wizard with a staff, but we've also had suggestions for wands in the past.  Some people will poo poo the idea because that makes the powerset inherently magic while most other powersets can fit any origin type.  To that, all I have to say is:  assault rifle and dual pistols.

Seriously, though, it's not like we haven't had tech wielders of wands in the comics (DC's Weather Wizard and Abra Kadabra come to mind).

So I'd suggest a powerset (or powersets for different ATs) that give the player different staves and wands and maybe a few other objects (like that handheld scanner device in the medicine pool) for the character to point and wave around with existing animations that we already have.  Make a blast set, a support set, and a control set for primaries and a blaster Manipulation and dominator Assault set.  That would make the collection of re-used animations be able to be used in both primary and secondary powers for blasters, controllers, corruptors, defenders, and dominators, as well as a secondary for masterminds.

As for effects...  make it a generic/mystic energy set for visual effects, and use the Dual Pistols ammo power as inspiration and make one of the powers something that lets the player choose a different thematic and secondary effects...  I'd recommend something that combines the 4 elements as we've never had a true general elemental with access to all the elements... just pick 2 elements with primary and secondary powers, and maybe you can get a third in your ancillary pool if something different is available for your AT.

I like this. I’ve been thinking the idea of a blasting staff capable of changing it’s elemental properties a la dual pistols could be a good way of killing both the “wizard’s staff desire and the “multi-element wizard” desire with one stone. As for the idea that it would be inherently magic… not necessarily. If it just uses a generic “energy” for non-elemental attacks, there can be roleplaying explanations for other origins. (Maybe you’ve upgraded your techstaff with flamethrowers, ice launchers, etc.) As part of this roleplay-friendly idea, I propose the set be named “Elemental Staff”.

  11. While I very much see the appeal, I doubt they could seriously implement this without creating balance issues.

As it stands, I’d settle for an option to alter the sound effects of melee weapons to better facilitate roleplayers. That, and making it possible for auras to be applied to weapons.

Implementing the suggestion you started this thread with would, in fact, limit people's playstyle, so I'm not sure how you can say that it wouldn't...

Costumes are cosmetic and don't affect powers. I'm pretty sure that's what OP means when he says that playstyle isn't affected.

That said, there are indeed players who would be harmed by this. Namely, the creative types who have ideas that they want to implement and would have their creativity restricted. Not to mention players who have already gotten used to the system Homecoming currently uses. Implementing OP's idea would effectively amount to arbitrarily taking away features and saying "you can have it back when you've earned it." (There's a difference between having to earn something you never had, versus having something taken away from you and having to work to get it back.)

OP, I doubt you'll ever read this, but whether or not you agree with the Homecoming team's decision to make all customization options available right away, it's the decision they made. And implementing your idea to bring back the restrictions would indeed hurt players who are used to the new system.

Not every hero in comics take their time to get to an awesome outfit.  In fact, a lot of times, we come into a brand new character and they're looking awesome.

Adding on to this, I think it's worth mentioning some cases of costume development in comics don't happen because of anything in universe, but because of out of universe art evolution. As in, creators getting better at art, or trying to figure out what they want the hero to look like.
