I've skipped it on both my DB Tanker and Scrapper.  While it's a strong attack that also happens to be a melee cone it has such a long animation time that I'd rather just focus on using other attacks, mainly Typhoon and Sweeping.  I also skipped Power Slice on both builds so the Sweep combo isn't an option anyway if combos mattered enough.

Yea I dont use the combo DB system anymore. Skipped nimble but took PS just cause I had to take one. I now do BF, Sweep, then I use either Moonbeam or Cuts depending on the mob. Feel like my dps is way better not using the system. And after testing ablating vs Cuts my single target is still better with cuts. And with 153 recharge it blends in perfect with BF and sweep.

  2. Does anyone ever use this in their DB builds? Im using it now for the first time and it seems like great dps aoe or single target. Animation is cool but the time sucks tho so I think ablating strike is better? Idk seems very close

  3. From what I understood Degen or Daimag was the Go-to back in live and just when the game came back a few years ago. Has anything changed? Does it really matter which I choose anymore? I chose Degen to kill Elite Bosses/AVs regens to practially nothing. But Diamag was all purpose good against all mobs. Im not really sure which to choose as a DB/Rad scrap but I was thinking of just going different for fun.

DMG enhancements go well with it I hear.

Get ENOUGH recharge to run the chain you want. You don't need more.

I've got...DB experience.  WP, SR, BIO, ELA, ENA, and STN.

DB does do it all, but so do a lot of other primaries. DB has two weapons though, and I personally think that's a cool aesthetic.

Bio is the biggest DMG increase for the set. Stone is the same DMG on STATIONARY targets, but Stone doesn't have a taunt aura. Chasing runners is a HUGE DPS loss (chasing = zero DPS). ELA is the next biggest DPS gain in that group, but it doesn't have a taunt aura, but ELA is darn tough to kill. ENA is my personal favorite of the group. Yeah, it doesn't have a DMG boost like the other sets (I don't consider recharge a boost since you can fill this hole via other means) but it is hard to kill and has a taunt aura. Really easy to get to softcap with most damage types and have good recharge to have the attack chain you desire. You are pretty likely to have Incarnate-softcap in a team. Build for good slow/recharge resist? Tough build with really good DPS.

Well shizzit Im running a DB/Rad and its not on your list here. I guess its not as good as these others you mentioned? Im finding Radiation Therapy/Ground Zero decent filled with Proc enhancements combined together but Im having to hit both skills to make it worth it. Thats ALOT of casting animation sadly.

Just for the next attacks used in that time window, so that second part you said.

It's NEVER a 3.25s time window btw. Every attack has a Animation Time Before Effect. I just brought up Seismic Smash randomly. Something like Midnight Grasp is DRASTICALLY different.

    image.png.7f7562bcfb6d448d8b3a83abfa11767c.png

The Arcana Time is what you should care about for cast time. Animation Time gives a rough idea when you move on to the next attack.

So, SS has a AT of 1.716s. The ATBE of SM is .833. You'd substract the ATBE from the AT. So just 1.716-0.833=0.883

THIS is the number you now care about. You would subtract this from the duration of the ATO2 proc and that's how much duration you'd have left of the proc to fit attacks in.

For SS? You'd have 2.367s left for the duration of the proc. Trust me, this ain't bad. Pretty good comparatively. To compare, Devastating Blow in Rad Melee is 2.51s left and it's REALLY good. You can get, normally, two more attacks off in these windows. In Midnight Grasp you'd have 1.71s left. You'll only get one more attack in this window, unless the one after MG has a really really fast ArcanaTime.

But if you want to get in the details of this stuff, the Animation Time isn't what you want. Just cause something's AniTime might only be 1.33 doesn't mean you can start casting the next attack that soon. Look at Moonbeam for example. It has a 1.33s AniTime but a 1.584 ArcanaTime. You aren't going to be able to move to the next attack until the ArcanaTime is complete.

Ahhh ic ic so the ability proc IS designed to get roughly 3 attacks in. Thank you all for the responses!

  6. Hi all. I used to be an AVID competitive PVP player in this game and many others. I just wanted to ask the PVP community something. Is there a PVP community here? Is it worth spending a billion influence on PVP for little to no population? Am I going to get pigeon-holed in trying to figure out how to beat a quite possibly unbalanced PVP rollercoaster? I just dont want to spend a billion influ on little gain or reward in actually trying to enjoy PVP again. But I do miss the good ole days.

I was under the assumption that when it activated it was for the next 1 or 2 attacks (or just 1 if the first attack used after it activated crit maybe) if they short enough duration.

However, if it lasts 3.25 seconds, I would wonder if there aren't some sets that could pull off 3 attacks in that time.  Claws maybe?

I have Blind Feint, Ablating strike, Vengeful strike and Sweeping strike. Vengeful strike is 2.43 sec so I should not slot it in there or Ablating. I could slot it in Veng to hope to get 50% on Sweeping finisher, but atm I have the set in the finisher and just open with the finisher to get the crit proc, then Feint and Ablating are empowered crits (which technically is my strongest hitter single target anyways), then Venge and Sweep empowered by Feint. So far Ive found it a good blend of single target and aoe dps.

AOE situations aren't what are likely to stop you in your tracks, high HP ST situations are. This isn't a playstyle preference thing. It's just reality. This doesn't happen much any more, but I have seen more then a few TFs fail at the end cause there wasn't enough DPS for a single AV/GM. Obviously you need a balance, but going all-in on AOE is a really really bad idea unless you only ever do radios or something.

Food for thought when picking where you slot it.

Well the real question is when it procs does it give the skill its slotted in a guaranteed crit on hit? Or does it just proc giving your next 3 secs for the follow up skills to get the 50% chance crit?

  9. Well since I'm DA/RAD my animation on my 3rd hit will absorb the crit. I have 148 recharge so I'll open with my finisher to get the ball rolling. But no matter what 1 of my 4 attacks will miss out no matter where I put it. So it either gonna be my 3rd or 4th hit that misses. Single target or aoe finisher is what I have to decide I guess. Sadly my 3rd chain big hitter is damn near a 3sec animation.

  10. Sup people. looked around but did not find anything about Scarpper Superior Crit Strike set and where to place them to get the most out of them. I figure Superior Critical Strikes you would want to slot in either your follow/Fient ect when you start your chains correct? Either that or your finisher?

On Rad Armor I always like to proc out Rad Therapy and Ground Zero to make them 2 mini nukes. With Dual Blades you want enough global recharge to make a chain out of Blinding Feint, Ablating Strike, Vengeful Strike, Sweeping Strike. Rinse and Repeat.

Ok but I had to take power strike because its a first power and then I took Typhoons Edge. I guess get rid of Typhoon and pick up something else? If thats the case i'll figure the replacement. Just thought I needed needed 5-6 attacks min and on top of that I could get more damaging enhance sets. Also after looking at Rad Therapy it says its minor Dot damage so didnt think it was used as such. But I do see what you mean about procing it out.

  12. Hey all. I finally got my DB/Rad scrap to lvl 50. But it just feels weird. Not exactly sure how its supposed to feel in combat yet. Somehow I feel nekid without any form of CC since I usually play a Tank or Brute to nullify incoming damage. So I ask anyone who has a strong DA/Rad scrap build to pass on some knowledge, tips or tricks so I can feel good about enhancing this thing plz. Anything is appreciated! Otherwise im just keep him on the shelf.

  13. Really nice build! Im a returning vet player off an on but I come back to try new class combinations. I lost my Mind/Energy Dom when the game shut down a long time ago so Im contemplating a new one. Thinking remaking him or running either Earth/Energy, Earth/Dark, Earth/Savage. I am looking for using it end game PVE/ PVP. Any input would be appreciated!

  14. Hey all I'm coming back to play my lvl 50 DB/Rad scrap that I lvled to 50 just before I took a break over a year ago. Wanted to ask if there are any improvements on both Arch types and if they are still a good combo? And if so what's the old-and-or new best skills to take for maximum damage output? I have yet to go any farther as I dont know if putting the time and money into this AT is worth it vs something else I could have fun with but yet efficient. Thank you in advance!

After issue 12, newer powersets had some gimmicks to set them apart from older sets. DB and StJ with their combo systems, TW with it's momentum system, Staff with it's form types, Savage with it's speed/end redux buffs etc. I think Paragon Studios were charging for the newer sets and these gimmicks made them more appealing to the playerbase.

DB/ElecA held the record for the fastest pylon time for a long time back during live. Attack Vitals is pretty good in terms of dps but DB's best attack chain is Blinding-Ablating-Sweeping-Ablating-repeat. Though I think Blinding-Sweeping-Nimble-Ablating-repeat would do ok since the Empower combo is a part of the chain.

Should I take more then one chain of attack skills like all Vitals + nimble and then choose other powers instead?

Katana is an obsolete set to nowadays standards, it deals sustained dps but War Mace is much much much better in all accounts since sustained dps won't take you anywhere on a team, things die fast and katana does not kill fast. Katana chars are just a matter of concept but it's definitely one of the worst scrapper primaries nowadays and needs a  serious revamp imho.

What about DB? is DB worth lvling and how does it compare to other scrap primes? Im also curious why there are combos with DB? I havent yet realized why i need to run them vs just smashing buttons on CD.

On DB the only combo that matters is attack vitals unless you are pushing for the top attack chain and you need about 300% global recharge i think for gapless  if you are not shooting for that the next best Single Target attack chain you can run is attack vitals  and of course you want blinding feint.  I personally take  typhoon's edge for early aoe while leveling and IO slotting  note I do side kick down on all my toons  so hence Typhoon and that is from my experiences on live with two DB's not done DB on home coming at this time.

One Thousands Cuts and Nimble skip so you have 6 attacks forget about all the other combos they are not worth your time or effort

    Power Slice

    Albating

    Typhoon's

    Blinding feint (a must)

    Vengeful Slice

    Sweeping Strike (your best attack)

here is the attack vitals chain

    ablating
    vengeful slice
    sweeping

Excellent! Thank you for your info on this build. This will help a ton in my beginning stage experimentation. I want to try out some secondary powrs ive never tried. So hopefully i can figure out a way but keep all the powers i need. What i'd like to do is sub out the Fighting line with Force of will. It's always bothered me that i have to sacrifice a power set to just take 3 powers (wasting a power by taking boxing/kick). Sadly i know how important it is to take tough and weave for any melee.

Not at all I use Flashing Steel at low levels and for when i side kick and gives some extra aoe attack and have Divine Avalanche as while for when i need the extra defense boost here is my current build attaching the mxd  katana-rad.mxd

Note the build has hover for Hami Raids so there is some flexibility on the build and the second slot in combat jumping is for the +10% regen so you have some slots and power options

Very nice build. But what of DB? It has all these chain combo skills that it appears you need to take. Curious which i can give up for all those defensive/secondary powers?

Soft cap smash/lethal defense with powers and IO's; a decent amount of recharge and just set Particle Shielding to Auto click that way you always have the absorb and + regen use Radation Therapy as a heal and -regen on AV's. Also remember Beta decay does - to hit on enemies to help

AT 50 with IO's and a few accolades I have 45.56% s/l defense when  Particle shielding is active I have 38.11 hp/sec which is all but about 2-3 second gap from perma and I am capped at 75% S/L resistance and high resistance most other things

my Katnaa/Rad is probably my tankiest build and can survive the most situations

Ok that sounds amazing. But that would mean I would have to give up alot of atack powers right? And those Defense/resistance numbers seem really high. I must have missed something in my power selections.

  20. Hi guys I'm a returning vet. Again. Figured I'd try something new like I always do when I return. How does a DB/Rad Scrap hold up vs all the other scrap AT's? Worth my time?
