  1. I just respect to the attached build last night. Mids is telling me that I should have an 85.9% total damage resistance to s/l damage. But in game my total for s/l is only 78.07%?

I've been through to check that they're both slotted exactly the same and i've made sure the incarnates are switched off in mids so they don't interfere with the totals.

Can anyone help me to understand if this is just human error? Why would the game show an almost 8% differeence to the mids planner, help please?

If you're not planning to upgrade to Catalina, then you can keep using the 32-bit mode as normal.  They're the same client built for different hardware.

    Thanks for clearing that up.

Do you have any ideas what could be causing my loading screen freeze when in safemode?

It just started happening a week ago. I get the loading screen appear, but occasionally the loading bar does not fill and it just disconnects. I have to cut power and reboot. We have a 60meg fibre optic connection, so i don't think it's our internet..  Any ideas?

    Many Thanks

  3. Hi,

Is deleting Island Rum & CoH as simple as moving them to the trash?

I only ask, as i've done multiple re-installs now to no avail. I'm wondering if im even doing it right?

(nb: ive followed all the advice and suggestions in the mac support thread to the best of my ability, but still drawing a blank on 64bitmode and getting hit with loading freeze when zoning in safe mode).

Any advice or suggestions appreciated at this point- getting a little desperate if im being honest. Maybe a system reset to the point before i originally downloaded the gamevin May?Im using El Capitan by the way.

  4. I'm at a loss with this now.

Recap: Game worked fine prior to Aug23rd update. No issues.

Following the update on Aug23rd i couldn't log in to the game. So i followed instructions on these forums to acquire Homebrew and then instructed Homebrew to install Wine.

After the installation completed i rebooted and everything was fine once more. I ran the game in 64bit mode (whatever that is) and had no issues at all.

About 4 days hence there was another update which then greyed out the 64bit mode. Following this new update, If i select 64 bit and try to launch it doesn't work. However Safe Mode would still allow me to log in and play as normal.

I've continued playing the game in Safe Mode since that point, but as of a week or two ago the game started intermittently crashing when loading in or out of instanced missions. It's become progessively worse since then and is currently unplayable in Safe Mode because of crashing whenever i start a mission.

I've attempted suggested fix's from this page, in the hope i can get the game to launch in 64bit Mode (and return to normal, as it were).

Things i've tried are 're-setting the path' to the correct location using Island Rum (ive found differing instructions on how to do this. So im not 100% sure whether or not i've done it correctly).

Ive tried moving the CoH app (the thing with the statesman icon) in to the coh folder, in applications and running Island Rum- it just redownloads the  entire game and puts the app back in to the previous location and Safe Mode is still my only option.

Today i tried removing everything including deinstalling Wine and went for a fresh re-install, but it's the same as before. Safe Mode only option available and i cannot enter a mission without it crashing.

I've noticed that since the reinstall i no longer have a coh folder in applications. Just the CoH icon with the Statesman thumbnail (i assume that's the app.). Don't know why that is.

So, im running out of ideas to try now.

I did have the game running in 64bit mode for about 4 days between the update on the 23rd and the one that followed just before the end of that month. So something in that last update of August has really ballsed it up for me.

Im running El Capitan on my machine.

    What do i guys?

Before you access the 64-bit Homecoming client on a Mac, you'll need to do the following:

    1.  Your Island Rum should update automatically to version 082220191.  If it doesn't, download it here: http://telstar.eekstudio.com/islandrum-mac.zip

Everytime I click on the link i download a zip file that opens up and is the old version of Island Rum.

What am I doing wrong please?

This is what worked for me, based on Manga's instructions (updated two Macs - a MacBook Pro and an iMac, both running Mojave):

    1. Make sure Island Rum is updated to version 082220191. Shut it down.

I've realised i need to update Island Rum, but I can't see an option. Do I just re-download it from the link in the getting started page? Do I have to de-install the old version first?

    Thanks.

    OK

I'm kind of suprised nobody gets the AoE potential of  Rad Armor with proc.

Once you get capped res, do you really need to overslott your heal aka Radiation Therapy ? NO. Then what can you do with it ? Proc it up to 5 or 6 !

(it's base accuracy is pretty high and the debuff from Beta Decay, it'll hit every time and proc every time)

Same for  Ground Zero (3 Avalanches + 3 proc) and you got 2 potent mininuke with large area.

My Rad/SS/Soul tank was beastly :

-4 large aoe powers (Foot Stomp, Dark Obliteration, Radiation Therapy, Ground Zero)

    -very good ST (Hello Gloom/KO/Haymaker)

I think Rad & Bio look to be the immediate stand out primaries on paper.

Unfortunately I am not the tech savviest either and I wasn't taking notes on what I did or such...

    But...

I started Island Rum and clicked the Tree Silhouette icon in top left corner.

I chose Reset Path which is third option down.

I used the arrows to navigate around to Applications then clicked the CoH folder in Application.

With Island Rum now knowing where my CoH folder was I got a little option in the center of Island Rum that I at first mistook as just a background or such.  It had two options, Install and Cancel as I recall.  I was hesitant at first 'cause when I have in and chose Install it said it was installing Wine and I *thought* I had done that last update via the Terminal...  But nothing else was working so I let it install...

And it worked.  Once it did it's little install I was back in game.  🙂

    Thanks for your further advice.

I'm in the reset path screen and ive found one folder called coh and another called CoH.app. When i select either it just opens it up and shows me the files inside the folder.

My question (to anyone reading) is which of these two is the relevant folder?

And how do i actually 'reset the path'? Is there a file within that i need to select?

Sorry if my questions are incredibly dumb. I am currently running in safe mode, so i feel like im only a couple of steps from getting this to work properly and i dont want it balls it up using my 'initiative' 🙂

    Cheers

  9. Tanker testing. Yass!

Looking forward to this one 😉

I pre-emptively made me a bio/stone on live, thinking it would fit the bill for proccage (Lv31 at the moment).

So im especially interested in Stone melee and Bio armour performance. This should be pretty interesting!

    Ok, I got back in...

After resetting path to Applications/CoH  I had to choose the Install Client or some similar option that popped up with it saying it could not detect game client.  I was reluctant 'cause doing so said it was reinstalling wine but I decided to go with it and it worked...

    Good luck.

    Hiya.

Could you clarify exactly what you did here, with regards to resetting the path and choosing the install file? I have no tech savvy at all.

    Thx for your help

@MangaCan we please talk about the "automatic updates you cannot opt out of"?

People get configurations working, then they suddenly break, for no obvious reasons. Unlike some other unfortunate souls, I've been able to play fine this whole time, but island rum updated today and now I'm stuck with the wineskin popup rather than the working game I had immediately prior to the auto-update.

(also, for some reason, it is greying out the 64-bit clients, not the safe mode client, and giving the 'may not work' warning).

I was playing fine yesterday and even earlier this morning on the current version of the client from homecoming. My copy of island rum has unnecessarily bricked itself, and this isn't the first time this has happened to someone.

Edit: Apparently safe mode works now. That's... something, at least. But I had a working 64-bit client prior to this mandatory update, though, and the fact I now don't is extremely offputting. Why do you keep changing things arbitrarily without giving users any choice in what version they run?

This is exactly my experience as well. Logged on this morning fine, but now i'm getting the same pop-up.

Will try in safe mode. thx.

This is what worked for me, based on Manga's instructions (updated two Macs - a MacBook Pro and an iMac, both running Mojave):

    1. Make sure Island Rum is updated to version 082220191. Shut it down.

    2.  Install Homebrew and Wine via your Terminal (located under Applications/Utilities. You need to run it as the admin for your Mac as it will ask you for your Mac password).  Follow the instructions at http://brew.sh first, and after Homebrew installs, run "brew install wine" in Terminal.

    3. When all that is done (take a few minutes), re- open Island Rum. You should see some progress bars updating and installing. If you don't, open the first drop-down menu (the palm tree) and select RESCAN. (You could probably rescan either way, just to double-check). When that's done, close Island Rum and re-start your Mac.

    4. Upon re-boot, re-open Island Rum, make sure "Homecoming 64-bit" is selected and proceed as you normally have done.

That should do it! (I hope) 🙂

The Homebrew site is telling me to padte a command in to macOS Terminal prompt.

Im pretty much mac illiterate. Please can some instruct me on where i paste the command in?

*I found 'Terminal' in my Apps>Utilities. I opened it, it brought up a window with some txt in it, but i couldn't edit or add anything?

Unique naming systems suck and are an obsolete relic, however I dont think it can be changed in COH.

It's irrelevant if you believe it makes "more sense" for the names to be unique becuase the fact is the result of doing so means the longer the game runs and the more characters are made the less good names remain and the less concepts become doable with half decent names. thus making it objectively bad for the game.

Not that it can be changed, but theres a lot of good things about the game. Unique names are definitely not one of them.

Naming characters appears to be the one part of the game i excel at. Please don't take that away from me 🙂

I'm a roleplayer and the character is level 44 at this point. She's had about a month of consistent play of a few hours every day.

Cyclone is just who she is, at this point. There's too many people around Paragon who know her by that name to make switching seem like an appropriate (And entirely random) decision.

    Fair play brother.

Can you make the name snafu part of your characters bio? Like some villain hit you up with identity fraud and now your out to get that fool that stole your true i.d.?

  15. On 8/20/2019 at 12:39 AM, Steampunkette said:

On Everlasting I created a character named Cyclone. I had to use an i for the L because somebody on that server is sitting on the name Cyclone with the intent to make a storm corruptor. She got the name from a friend who was sitting on it.

I'm the only person who has actually played a character named Cyclone on the server but I will always have that ugly capital I in the middle of my name...

Because the person who has it spelled correctly for an alt they haven't even created yet wants to use it for the character they originally wanted to make Stormsurge but that name was taken...

Layered irony and frustration. I would love if names were not unique but I don't I think they'll be able to set that out

I love the unique naming convention in CoH. Didn't have a problem with it on live and i don't have any issues on HC.

My experience on HC is that i often get the name i want straight outta the gate (this never happened on live). Even when it's a kind of an obvious name, i've been pleasantly surprised to find that no one else has it. When my name of choice is taken it usually takes me about 10 to 20min to come up with something else that i like, usually more so than my original choice. I don't even resort to thesauruses, or foreign languages.

Maybe im a lucky guy? Maybe im just not that discerning? Who knows.

Having said that, im sympathetic to your plight. What say you whack up a piccy of your character + bio (if you've got one) and perhaps we can help you out with some juicy alternatives? With the combined brain power of da forumz im sure we can rustle something to your liking. One of 'ems bound to be available for you to use. Then you too can be a happy bunny with a unique name, kill skuls and be happy?

  16. I'm having naughty thoughts about a proc monster Tank. Im thinkin (off the top of my head) Bio/Stone?

Also, i just realised this is a thing:

On a successful hit, any tier 1 Tanker secondary power setattack will bruise an enemy target. This bruising effect causes a resistible 20% damage resistance debuff which lasts for 10 seconds.

Can we do Tanker testing next? 🙂

Sterling work so far lads. Well done!

That's interesting. They seem stronger on Homecoming, due to the ability to use procs to pick up better single-target damage, and the AoE damage that they usually lack.

    They're STRONGER as characters.

The "problem" is that characters overall are generally stronger since IOs are much cheaper, and thus defense is less useful on teams. But that's not a Controller problem, that's a game balance post 50 problem. Any character not oriented primarily towards damage seems... far below optimal, once a team is capable of facerolling without worrying about danger.

Yes, i think you're right. I always felt that 'trollers come in to their own during prolonged battle. So id say that's usually if team dps is lower than normal, or if additional, unsolicited aggro comes in from a patrol, or a blaster woopsy. The teams stamina is really put to the test in those situations and aoe controls really help.

But on HC i just don't find that 'prolonged battle' scenario is that common. 8 man teams are just so powerful, its usually click, click, dead and move on.

Ofc you can engineer that scenario by building smaller teams, adjusting difficulty etc. (and i do). But you have to go looking for it.
