Need help with build/What am I doing wrong?

I tried making a SS/WP brute, but it seems pretty lacking compared to what results others report. Can anyone give me advice on how to improve this build? From what people say I should be able to get much higher defense and recharge. 

I'm willing to change anything on my build except has to have lazer eyes.
