Please take a look at the image in the link. The build in the left has more of a focus on defense and resistance. Hasten is ten seconds away from perma in this build. The second build, on the right, is 1.9s away from perma hasten at the detriment to def/res. Trying to determine how bad I need to be like the cool kids and have the perma hasten.

Apart from that, how do these numbers look compared to your build? Am I on the right track, should I be focusing more on something or another? Approx how much will my 10 sec delay of permahasten be improved if I get extra recharge with my incarnate buffs?

Thanks for your consideration!

Before we go any further, this.

How's this strike you?  I almost always find it better to plan around the Alpha Slot.  You also don't technically *need* the Winter set for this build, so if cost is a factor you can rejigger it -- but the set bonuses are fantastic and double KD in Lighting Field along with everything else means you're immortal in melee.

Jack, I made an updated build based on viewing yours. I moved some of the powers around though so I could keep lightning field and lighting reflexes earlier along with some travel. Let me know what you think! I made a new post to get some fresh eyes.

I'm only going to respond in this thread for this character.  Your revision seems like it gives up a lot of defense, healing, and a fair amount of damage for global recharge and psionic resistance.  But because you changed back to Agility from Spiritual, none of your powers gain any significant amount of recharge time and many of them (e.g. Energize) actually lose some.  I'm not sure what your build objective was?

I think these builds are pretty close. I gave up 5% defense in smashing and lethal for 5% extra fire and cold defense. I figured I'm already at resistance cap in smashing and lethal but a little lower than res cap for fire and cold so the extra 5% def in fire and cold would prob work better for me over there. My build also has double the toxic res and nearly 1.5x psi res. But you are right I've sacrificed regeneration and a little slice of damage. I figure with a full fury bar and stacked rage, I will be at damage cap no?

As for the incarnate, agility core paragon gives +33% recharge, +45% end red, and 20% defense. I lose +regen and +stun by not going spiritual but gain end reduction and defense. I'll have to consider which side of that trade-off is more important for me.

For your build, does you character currently have this build slotted or is it theory at this point? I'm just doing my homework right now but will be slotting him up soon. I have a feeling both of our builds will be monsters and we're probably ultimately splitting hairs here, no? *shrugs*

No, you won't hit the damage cap without further buffs.  (Brute cap is 775%, with double stacked Rage, full Fury, and the Gaussian's proc you hit at most 540%, so you would need 235% damage from enhancements to cap, which is impossible.)

When evaluating Defense, remember that going from 40% to 45% cuts incoming damage by half.  Going in the reverse, then, from 45% to 40% doesn't reduce your mitigation by 5% -- it halves it.  The difference between 20 and 25%, on the other hand, is about 1/6th.  (It can be meaningful to go for 20% or 32.5% rather than 45% Defense anyway, since those are good breakpoints for stacking purple inspirations to hit 45.)  The build I did focused on positional (not typed) Defense, and you went from >45% Melee and 20% Ranged/AoE to 33% Melee, ~17% Ranged, ~23% AoE.  It could certainly be meaningful to go for S/L resist type rather than melee position, but I'd really recommend pushing it up rather than sacrificing it for a relatively smaller increase in another defense.

As for the incarnate, agility core paragon gives +33% recharge, +45% end red, and 20% defense. I lose +regen and +stun by not going spiritual but gain end reduction and defense. I'll have to consider which side of that trade-off is more important for me.

I'd recommend looking at the actual powers and totals rather than abstractly comparing the alphas this way.  As you noticed, you aren't really gaining Defense overall with the changes.  Agility doesn't give you endurance reduction, but rather endurance modification -- and if you compare totals, your build has 10% higher endurance costs across the board.  The remaining difference is 45% recharge (Spiritual) vs 33% (Agility).  You make up the difference by slotting two purple sets, which could definitely impact recharge speeds... but the actual effect due to slotting changes is mostly either non-impactful increases (e.g., 0.06s gain in haymaker) or small losses (1.78s in Energize).

For your build, does you character currently have this build slotted or is it theory at this point? I'm just doing my homework right now but will be slotting him up soon. I have a feeling both of our builds will be monsters and we're probably ultimately splitting hairs here, no? *shrugs*

If your build is intended for a full team play environment, yes it is splitting hairs; the most important stats there are your recharge, your debuff (esp recharge) resistance, your maxhp, and your damage resistance.  If you're building for solo or small-group play, the differences are pretty significant.  The build I did assumed a mix of both and was targeted at a moderate budget (most of the expensive items I suggested can be earned with merits within a few days).  If you want a full-cost (e.g., heavy use of purple sets), full-solo build, then there's actually room to improve mine significantly.

My only 50 /Elec was TW/Elec on Live, and was built for sustained damage and soft control.  It looks pretty different.

Jack, I really appreciate the thoughtful responses! I'm learning a lot in this thread! Thank you for indulging me  ;D

I was trying to find how much of a buff to damage fury gives but couldn't find numbers online. I just saw that the overall damage cap for brutes is 775%. My current build has 170% damage and gets up to 250% with a second rage stacked. I was hopeful that fury would make up the difference lol. Do you have any knowledge on the specific numbers for fury?

Very interesting your comments on positional vs type. I've seen this discussed in the blaster forums but haven't ever considered it for a brute. Would you suggest it is more important to control for positional than type?

Valid points on the incarnate as well.

Man! This makes me want to try out some different builds in the field and see how they feel now. I might have to try one, respec, try another until I figure out what I want. Remind me please, can you respec incarnates? I can't recall.

Ultimately, I prefer working in teams so I feel like whatever I pick will be fine. But I also want to be able to tear up +4x8 maps solo as well. My ss/elec on live was the toon I used to PL my buds. I used to have a great build but after 7 years away the specifics are fuzzy! Either way I think I'm on track to have an even better one now!

Thanks again, bud!

2% damage per point of fury.

Not exactly.  It just happened to be easier to get good breakpoints that way for this build.  If you can only pick one pair or one position, S/L typed is the best; but all three positions is better (and often easier) than the six main types.

Remind me please, can you respec incarnates? I can't recall.

You don't have to respec them -- you can change your slotted incarnate when you're not in combat or on a TF, with IIRC a 10m cooldown.  But you do have to build the other one(s).
