ooothepaul Posted February 5 Posted February 5 Hey everyone! I could use some assistance if any of you are so inclined. I'm new to the game and trying to wrap my head around everything but feeling like I'm missing some details that might make me a more effective player. My toon is a level 29 Fire/Flire blaster and I'm not sure how to proceed with it. I've taken everything out of Fire Blast except for Rain of Fire. In Fire Manipulation I specced out of Combustion and have not yet taken Consume, Burn, or Hot Feet. The only other Ancillary powers I've taken are Hover, Flight, and Evasive Maneuvers. With all of that said, I'm not sure what to take next? I play almost exclusively solo, although I'm definitely open to changing that up. In general, I've gotten pretty good at pulling mobs but haven't quite figured out jousting. I tend to open fights with Aim/Build Up then Blazing Bolt and Blaze. I'll continue throwing ranged attacks until the mobs reach me, then depending on how many there are, Firesword/Fire Blast/Flares or cycle through Fireball/Breath of Fire/Fire Sword Circle. Inferno is my "oh crap" button. I haven't adjusted the number or difficulty of the mobs. Survivability was a little weak in the teens and early 20's but I seem to be holding my own okay at the moment. I am never low on endurance, which feels surprising, especially with hover/evasive maneuvers, and cauterizing aura always on. I'm a little unclear about the best way to handle enhancements when you're midgame. Someone in the help channel suggested just getting generic IO's until 50, so that's what I've been doing-- Stocked up at level 20 and have been trying to switch them out to 30. Most of my damage abilities have Acc/Dam/Range. Aim and Build Up have one To Hit buff and three Recharge Reductions. Stamina has 2 Endurance Mods, and Hover and EM have 2 Defense Buffs. I suppose, what I'm really asking, is how should I build out my blaster to continue being able to effectively solo? None of the remaining fire manipulation powers seem especially interesting but if the best course of action is picking them all up, I will. I'm considering dipping into leadership or medicine, but happy to take suggestions if there might be more effective choices. Thanks so much for your help!
Nemu Posted February 6 Posted February 6 You can't joust effectively with hover. It's too slow and lacks momentum. The point of jousting is to use movement momentum to carry you past the point of execution so you are not in danger of melee retaliation when you stop moving and animate your attack. Consider taking more pools, you can have up to 4. Speed is a good one for hasten, which gives you a buff that improves your recharge. Stealth is also good for beginner solo builds, it lets you get closer to mobs without them noticing for alpha strikes. Combat jumping from the leap pool gives you protection from immobilize effects. The fighting pool is meta, most people will take it for tough/weave but that's when you want to graduate from simple generic IO builds to builds with sets which are considerably more costly. Liberty, Torchbearer, Excelsior, Everlasting Jezebel Delias Level 50 Fire/Elec/Mace Blaster I am the Inner Circle!
Perfidy Posted February 6 Posted February 6 I solo with my blasters routinely. Almost all of them take combat jumping and super speed. Building your blaster requires you to identify how you like to play. While I can joust, I only do so when I think I need to, in higher difficulty situations. It's not my go to strat for clearing mobs. Some folks play only at range; some folks play only in melee. And, it seems you do both, which is perfectly okay. I don't know that I'd use 3 recharge enhancements in Build-up. There's a bit of diminishing returns at play on that 3rd enhancement of the same type. Not a lot, but enough where if you're needing/wanting a slot somewhere else, you could respec and lose that third recharge enhancement and not miss it too much. It may be worth your time to consider an enhancement that does both - boosts toHit and recharge. But this would be an invention origin enhancement, and I'm not sure if you're ready to delve into all of the investigation required for inventions just yet. Medicine pool for me was always ...well, not very good. If I needed to heal up, the time to mash the button and have it execute without interruption was usually too slow. Far easier to hit an inspiration. And the fight pool, while meta, if you can handle the endurance usage, is rarely a bad idea. A blaster doesn't do much damage when they're dirt-napping. Finding the balance between dps and survivability is what each blaster needs to discover on their own. I'm older, with slower reflexes than most folks, so I tend to rely on a more sturdy build. I'm sure many blasters and even corruptors will out-dps my blasters, but mine will likely live longer in the more challenging scenarios. So, I guess what I'm saying is - I'm jealous. You're at a point in the game where you get to learn all kinds of things about how you play, what you like, and what you're good at. Enjoy the discovery! 1
