Magairlín
Hey, people of the RP forum! I've been poking at an idea for an SG. For those of you who've run one, what advice would you give to someone who wants to get one started? I've got a discord set up and the SG created, thought about what sort of community I want the group to be, structure, sg lore, etc. What are some unexpected issues that might come up? How much in the way of story arcs/hooks should I have already set up and ready to go until the group really gets going?
kito
Often start with an idea most people can at least watch a movie about to understand. Maybe put clips in you discord on how you see the SG would handle X situation. Don't be afraid to let people help with lore store etc, if they have a different vision then you sometimes you have to tell them sorry that's not how I see this SG going. But sometimes you will also love there ideas, that's when you need to be careful and be sure the idea you love also fits with the SG you tell people it is. E.g don't start up a super hero school and send them into a digital world full of monsters People don't want to be lied to just cuz you need more players. It will often. Make the players you have leave with the new ones that you upset. Leave room to grow, if you have the perfect end goal for you base or team try not to start there, get a few friends and start before there work your way to it and help get people to build it with you. Try to have something for the SG and for the players to do, a training sim every week as the tf/sf of the week or something to do between each event. Saving the world is fun but so is a beach day after you saved it. Don't be afraid to rp in public areas. Yes random people might try and join in, let them (if you want more players for sure) as long as it's just a normal patrol or something. Don't be afraid to set up npc and villans/informants outher players play in the world, have them in the discord and such they might not be in the SG but your player can go to them for clues and info when needed. Always remember to keep it fun if an event is causing alot of stress or issues don't be afraid to drop it, not all events will go the way you want nothing wrong with just jumping into radio patrol into a few random things as the trail went cold or a random outher hero stopped them. Try not to waste anyone's time.
