odingrey Posted Saturday at 05:41 PM Posted Saturday at 05:41 PM Tested on Ubuntu 24.10 with Nvidia hardware and drivers installed. Homecoming runs fine through wine, but here is a way to run it through Steam Proton: Pre work: Enable Proton in Steam by Steam Settings -> Compatibility -> toggle on "Enable Steam Play for all other titles" Allow some time for steam to download updates. 1. downloading HC installer 2. add installer to steam as a non-steam game 3. find installer in list, right click properties -> compatibility -> force proton. Choose the latest version which is 9.0-4 for me. 4. run the game, install to c drive 5. go to /home/{user}/snap/steam/common/.local/share/Steam/steamapps/compatdata and find the newest folder 6. go into newest folder, and then /pfx/drive_c and find the executable that was installed, copy down the path. 7. back into Steam, right click the game, properties -> shortcut. Update the target to the executable and rename to the game What we are doing is running the installer in Steam Proton which creates a folder for the installer with the emulated windows file paths plus Homecoming. We don't want to remove that folder since it has our exe, so we update the same steam game to the newly installed path once it's in. If you skip the last 3 steps all you'll get is the installer next time you try to play. 1
