Spookeriffic Posted Monday at 09:37 PM Posted Monday at 09:37 PM So I installed the other day, created my character, started playing, and boom. Crash. No error. No bluescreen. Nothing just.... closed out. I'd restart it, adjust some settings... again, crash. I've got my graphics turned WAAAAY down, still crashes. My computer is not a complete potato, and I played it last year, why is it doing this now? What documentation do I need to provide to you friendly folk?
starro Posted Tuesday at 01:42 AM Posted Tuesday at 01:42 AM When Homecoming came back I had terrible crashes like 1-5 times an hour. It was a tough run circa 2019-2021 but HC team's best improvement was the introduction of the Homecoming client. Here's some old thoughts from over the years supporting friends or old SG guild mates. There was an old game loader called Tequila but the new Homecoming client is better. This alone fixed 90% of my problems. The move from 32 bit to 64 bit OS even further fixed my issues. Homecoming Launcher - Homecoming The Homeccoming client has a crash detector DIAG client. That might help out and give data to share with support and more technical people. If you are a Linux or Mac player there are some sub forums that can help. I am a boring Windows person. I recommend updated video/Network card and processor drivers but not all the time and sometimes it is good to stay on NOT the latest and greatest. I have had the most updaated drivers fix and cause issues. I once updated video drivers and something did not get along with COH as the graphics looked really bad until I had to rollback to a previous version. Another time I HAD to update my network card drivers to fix rubber banding that just .... started one day. Awful week as I thought my computer was dying in general. Close out of other programs when you play and re-introduce one at a time in case there is something going on. I play on very old computer and she no longer keeps up watching the news and COH on the second monitor some days. If you do not reboot your computer, I recommend a daily reboot no matter if it hurts. While I am at it a monthly home router reboot never hurts monthly too. I also recommend wired internet over wireless if that is an option. If wireless is your only option try another trusted wireless internet spot outside of your home. A friend in a dormitory situation simply could not play COH but at a local library it ran fine. Every now and then a verify or repair on the game client. There are three periods in the lower right corner of HC client launch This old game sometimes just needs that refresh. Old Wn Vista story - I once had something self destruct so bad I had to install to a new \coh2 folder, I could not get past the logon/password screen. I cannot explain it but something in that \coh folder would allow me to connect but I did not want to lose my AE, costumes and files until I moved them over. Finally, no very full hard drives.... if you have a very full hard drive might be time to clean up old files. The more technical people probably have an army further of ideas. Pineapple 🍍 Pizza 🍕 is my thumbs up.
