First Cave Quest Impressions

Hey. How's going.

Just want to say that after coming back to the game few weeks ago for the first time since live shotdown running the tutorial and later the first cave mission nearly made me quit the game all together due to the poor quality of graphics of the cave and the near total eary emptiness of the tutorial.

 

I'm thinking how does a new comer to CoH see this and how many may give up before giving it a chance just based on these first impressions.

Maybe it's just  me, I don't know. But I'm wondering if we could maybe at least improve that cave and modernize it somewhat considering  this is a very first indoor type mission any new player will experience.

I mean, the tutorial is what it is. You may sometimes see other players in it, but it's not 2004, and there won't be 30-40 people in it at any given moment anymore. That's life. 

 

The cave missions... trying to decide if you mean one of the purple-blue caves from classic CoH, or one of the multi-instance caves from Mattthew Habashy's quest line with the Hellions and the fire, or a redside cave with Snakes. I'll grant you, they all look dated in their own way.  But we are looking at an all volunteer not-for-profit, may-never-be-for-profit Dev Team. They do this in their downtime hours after their real life day jobs are over. 

 

While I wouldn't be against a facelift of some cave maps, I'm not personally expecting any change there.

I don't think it's controversial to say that the purple caves are terrible. I'd love for them to get an update but I'm not going to hold my breath. The dev team seems to be more likely to create new content/maps rather than adjusting the old content. I've been getting stuck on those rocks for nearly 20 years, it's ALMOST comforting at this point! 😆

 

That pancake room especially has to be in the top 5 worst maps/rooms in the game!
