LightMaster Posted June 4 Posted June 4 As far as CoX goes, “Energy is the new light”. While there are explicitly called Dark powers, and there are plentiful such as Darkness Assault and Dark Miasma, with the Warshade having a conbination of darkness and void (two related concepts), the only true light elemental powers so far are Peacebringers, Illusion Control and the soon-releasing Pyrotechnic Control. That’s not counting the still-unreleased Holy Light, either. But like the D&D series, darkness powers deals Negative Energy damage, while Energy is considered to be it’s own distinct damage type rather than being the “generic” one. By this logic, one may consider Energy-based sets as a convenient type of power for light-flavored toons. If you find Energy Blast too much of knockback, or if you think Energy Melee focuses too much Single-Target for you, then here are viable alternatives to use if you want to create a light-flavored toon without the need to play as a “human-only” PB. Recommanded Color for all sets: White, Bright Beige, Sky Blue (akin to Peacebringers), any bright color (for a Green Lanturn reference / tribute) Elemental Sets: Radiation, Psychic / Psionic, Fire (solar), Electric (speed), Time (gleaming FX), Kinetics (support Power Set specifically) Spoiler Radiation can refer to the shining kind of radiation, like the radiation of the Sun. On the redside kind of thing, excessive radiation of light can cause blinding, skin irritation or countless type of cancer, particularly skin cancer. Psychic and Psionic has a similar gleaming effect, with the added bonus of having the rare Psionic type of damage which comes in handy against most non-mechanical enemies and the Primal Earth Clockworks. Be warned that until Issue 28 Page 2, Psychic Control on Controllers can be a bit underwhelming at best, so you’d might stick with Illusion Control. Fire is due to the fact that the sun and the stars are burning plasma of space. The recommanded color list is especially for this reason, as to not be mistaken for just ordinary fire flavor-wise. Electric shares a similar ability associated with light; superspeed. It can simulate light’s ability to go superfast, even if nowehre as much in real life, and the Flash and his numerous counterparts are well known for his lightning bolt icon, but the Flash can go faster than even light itself if an exceptionally bad situation happens. Time also has a gleaming FX, particularly Temporal Manipulation for Blasters, and can play with the concept of having “reaction speed of the speed of light” for Defenders, Corruptors, Controllers, Masterminds and Blasters (via Temporal Manipulation for latter). Kinetics is a special case where it’s the Energy equivalent of Support power sets, and between Speed Boost and other stat-buffing powers, it can be reflavored as “powering up allies with the power of the light”. Weaponry: Beam Rifle, any melee weapon set with customization, Shield Defense Spoiler Beam Rifle shoots non-specific beam, so it can be re-flavored as shooting beams of light or solar energy. These following melee weapon sets, and Shield Defense, can be reflavored of using light as a weapon, either magically (i.e. Fire and Ice Sword - Elemental) or technologically (i.e. the Vanguard weapons) with the right weapon skin: Battle Axe (Vanguard Axe) Any handheld blade weapon like Broadsword, Katana and Dual Blades (Vanguard Blade / Broadsword / Katana; Fire and Ice Sword - Elemental; Supernova; Event Horizon) Claws (Vanguard Claws; RG-Blades) Staff Fighting (Glossy Metal, Metal) Titan Weapons (Fire and Ice Sword - Elemental; Supernova; Event Horizon) War Mace (Tech Mace; Carnival of Light; Carnival of War; Carnival of Vengeance) Shield Defense (Energy Shield; Tech Shields 1 + 2; Vanguard Shield) Hard Light: Shield Defense (Gem Shield), Earth Power Sets (Crystal), Spines and Thorny Assault (Crystal Spines), War Mace (Fire and Ice Mace), Fighting Staff (again), Titan Weapons (Fire and Ice Mace / Fire and Ice Sword) This one’s simple; hard light is a fiction trope that involve solid holographic project of light. Think of Phantom Army, but real and solid. If there’s anything missing, let me know. I hope this will help those creating light-flavored heroes without being forced to resort into PBs or Energy Powers!
