Hey all, been playing with my ice/ice blaster's build, but since beta copy is down, I can't test it. So I was hoping to get some feedback.

 

Playstyle is 90% ranged, mostly groups/leagues. I was trying to up my damage from my current build without sacrificing too much defense. Any thoughts would be very much appreciated.

I'm sure the build will do ok on a team with buffs and solo with inspirations. It will depend on the type of content you run. If you are running mostly level 50 content where judgement/destiny is being spammed all the time then even an unslotted build with brawl as the only attack will do. If you exemp a lot or if you aspire to be a hardmode content runner then you will need to dial your build in for those purposes.

 

As for the build, It's a hodge podge of things with no clear direction at first glance, or maybe it tries to cast a very wide net on things it wants to do. (low-mid defenses but you invest a lot of slots in hover/aim, recharge is not too high given how you went and proced a few attacks and not putting that 5th apocalypse slot in bitter freeze ray instead of bitter ice blast, etc...)

 

People that dedicate their blaster to teaming tend to go all out on offense and leave survival to team buffs

People that dedicate their blasters to soloing tend to lean more in on softcap defense, for you range defense makes more sense than S/L

There is a middle ground, where people shoot for 32.5% defense to be covered by a single luck to softcap (or team buffs), and dedicate the rest to offense

 

I know you mentioned teaming, damage and defense. Knowing that you can't do everything in a single build. How would you rank what's most important for you for this blaster build for the type of content you want to run?

I agree with what Nemu said above.  I like to add that you have the above quote backwards.  Go for stupid damage output.  Get carried away with the Damage Buff set bonuses.  I see time and time again folks chasing the +Defense bonuses.  This approach always leads to a build that is gimped.  A perfect example of this in your build is Freezing Touch.  This should have damage about 600 with the BU and the Alpha Slot Musc. Rad Para going.

 

You also left out your Alpha slot pick.   You can select that in the upper right-hand corner of Mids'.  It says:  Incarnate Powers.

 

Lastly, Get Frigid Protection dialed in.  Your build is relying heavily on this power to supply enough End to keep everything running.  I think this is the one power you should Test.  You should be asking things like:  Does the Theft of Essence trigger enough to warrant having it slotted.

Yeah, I think I tried to maintain defense and accuracy boosts, but at the end of the day, I should probably focus more on damage and recharge.

I mostly run Incarnate TFs and Hamidon with this character, so damage is probably the way to go.

Makes sense! With Hecatomb and Gladiator's Strike, plus BU and Musc looks like I hit 635. 

 

I fiddled with my build to add damage at the cost of defense and a bit of accuracy, and I added in Frozen Aura instead of Tactics for another damaging attack.

Are you actually going to use those melee attacks? Most blaster builds I see posted here favor hover blasting and avoiding melee. I'd treat those powers as mules for set bonuses if that's the case.

 

If damage is your goal and survival is covered by team buffs/destiny etc... then I question your decision to 6 slot decimation and ragnorak, what does that 6th slot get you offensively?

 

I'd favor tactics over assault. Assault only gives you a training origin worth of damage boost to your base damage, not enhanced damage. I'd rather have tactics to boost my to hit and give me protection against blind effects.

 

With enough recharge I don't see the need to take both ice bolt and blast, unless you are using one of them strictly as a set bonus mule. At level 50 you are fast enough with base hover speed but most builds take evasive maneuvers as a quality of life pick for more combat mobility.

 

The attached build trims down your number of attacks but increases your global recharge. If you are doing a lot of incarnate content and Hami raids then AoE damage doesn't matter. Instead I focused on procs in your 2 single target blasts and dedicated all the other slots to recharge bonuses, range defense, and slow resist. You are mostly going to spam Ice blast, freeze ray and bitter ice blast for a lot of the encounters.  You have 32.5% range defense so that you can pop a luck to get ranged softcap if you missed some buffs.
