This is for those who seek to play every level and every map of the game. This is for those who seek the badges, seek the challenges of playing... THE SHARD TASK FORCES.
Dr. Quaterfield Task Force (levels 40-44) Firebase Zulu (FBZ) zone STARTING OCTOBER 3
Sara Moore Task Force (40-50) Cascade Archipelago (Cascades) zone STARTING OCTOBER 10
Justin Augustine Task Force (44-50) The Chantry STARTING OCTOBER 17
Faathim the Kind Task Force (44-50) The Chantry (inside Faathim's sphere) finishing in the Storm Palace STARTING OCTOBER 24
Every October when City of Heroes added the Shadow Shard realms to the Hero side of the game, there have been teams that organized to run four of the more difficult task forces the game devs saw fit to add to the MMO. Some of this had to do with the fact that the TFs were in zones that were floating space islands not easily reached back in the days of olde. Some of this had to do with team requirements for full lineups of eight, and above levels 40 (for Q and Moore) and 44 (for Augustine and Faathim). A lot of it had to do with three of the TFs - Dr. Quaterfield, Sara Moore, and Faathim the Kind were time-consuming runs that would take hours - in Dr. Q's case, DAYS - to complete.
Thankfully, many recent changes to the game helped to speed up the Task Force experience. Ouroboros portals working as shortcuts from the Shard realms back to City Zones for much of Q and Moore, for example. Even better were the P2W vendors that sold powers needed to hurry up the travel - TEAM TELEPORT - from zone to zone that had been the bane of Dr. Q's 26 (!) mission run.
So as a rule, whenever running the Shard Realm Task Forces, you and your teammates MUST HAVE:
* Team Teleport prestige power
* Assemble the Team prestige power
* Mission Teleport prestige power (make sure not to confuse it with Team Teleport)
* Any kind of Fly power, even the temp jet packs available through P2W vendors
* Ouro portals for useful shortcuts to zones accessible through that portal
* Supergroup Base teleports (if unlocked for teammates to share)
Shard TFs can NOW be done within 2 hours, tops. And more fun to run. And with Double Merits due to the Weekly TF status, very profitable!Just keep an eye open - heh - for any and all calls for a SHARDTOBER TF RUN on your Looking For Group channel!
Hope to see you in the shadow realms!!!

Mission teleporter followed by incan is a useful alternative for moving the team around as well.
There are many experts of the Shard Realm Task Forces, people. FOLLOW THEIR LEAD!!!

I am not sure I have that many years of my life left to me to run those TFs! 💀
Thanks to all the shortcuts now available, the Shard TFs are easily done within 2 hours. Just as long as you got the Veteran prestige powers, Ouro ports, and a temp flight pack if you don't have Flight slotted already.

GO AHEAD AND SCREAM! THE SHARD REALMS ARE MILES AWAY FROM WHERE ANYONE CAN HEAR US! BWHAHAHAHAHA.
As long as everyone understands that the Shard Task Forces - Dr. Q, Sara Moore, Justin Augustine, and Faathim the Kind - are faster now thanks to Team Teleports, Mission Teleports, Assemble the Team, Supergroup Base Teleports, and Ouroboros ports, we should find it easy to form Shard TFs every evening and weekends! Dr. Q in particular went from being an 8-hour slogfest (at best) all the way down to a speedy 1.5 hours! Shards are VERY DOABLE NOW, People!!!

Just a reminder to plan ahead for this year's Shardtober Event! Running the Shard realm task forces from levels 40 and up, starting in October and ending in DOOM (for Rularuu, one hopes)!
Please do plan to:
Get a flight power, temporary jet pack, anything like that to traverse the floating bastions
Get Team Teleport (TT), which speeds up the time jumping from one door mission to the next
Get Assemble The Team (ATT), which can help gather teams across a zone to any of the open map huntsGet some cake! The cake is NOT a lie! (I'm being told that is a different game altogether, disregard)
Keep track of the Weekly Task Force calendar, which will tell you when we can run Dr. Q, Sara Moore, Justine Augustine, and Faathim TFs for double the merits and bonuses!
Keep an eye open for updates!

I do like having Granite Armor as a safety net of sorts, especially against big mobs in +4 TFs. As long as I team with a Speed Boost kinetic... 😉
-
I see a lot of Doctored Wounds instead of the other Heal enhancements, is it because of the Resist and Mez bonuses?

Talk about "la tabla rasa"!
Are you looking for non-granite, most of the time? If so, you can use PLV's build as a base, even though he's SS, not SJ. At least you can see the sets used for the primary...
Well I didn't put anything in the enh slots because I wasn't sure which crafted enhs go where. Sorry about that.

Just a reminder, although the Weekly Task/Strike Force calendar doesn't show it, that the month of October becomes SHARDTOBER, a time when the four shard realm TFs in City of Heroes are promoted for fun (yes, it's possible) and badging/XP.
Explorers and Exploiters (Dr. Quaterfield, Level 40-45)
The Legend of Ruladak (Sara Moore, Level 44-50)
The Saga of Faathim (Justin Augustine, Level 44-50)
The Saga of Lanaru (Faathim the Kind, Level 44-50)
In days of olde, these Task Forces were somewhat time-intensive, and involved traveling in zones - the dimensional Shadow Shard realms - that required Flight or Teleport to successfully navigate. In these enlightened days, when temporary Jet Packs can be easily obtained, and the zone-hopping teleport powers like Team Teleport, Ouroborous portal, temp Base Portal, and direct Mission Teleport are also available, a good team can run even the Dr. Q TF within an hour (okay, maybe 90 minutes on Q).
When these TFs are the Weekly TFs, you can add a 2XP boost to yourself in the 40s and increase your XP to level faster. When you're incarnate, these TFs can drop a lot of Incarnate Shards and Threads to craft your Incarnate powers.
Used to be - because of the lengthy play time - that you would need to set aside the time (weekends were best) and schedule a sign-up for teams to plan ahead. Nowadays, you should be able to form these Shard TFs pretty quickly. Just make sure every teammate has the TEAM TELEPORT power on hand to help speed up door missions between zones.
Hope to see you in Firebase Zulu (connected to Peregrine Island via the Portal Corp building) for SHARDTOBER!

Whenever there's a fifth Tuesday of a month, the Tanker Tuesday event rolls to a special form of activity, like a All-Tank Hami Raid. This month for March 2021, Warboss called for an All-Shield Imperious Task Force run vs. the Roman villain set that has its own Shield powersets, a sort of Shield vs. Shield throwdown. This was done on the Torchbearer server, and a sizable number showed up to run the TF challenge.
I was tasked to chronicle the events for the team I joined, playing on the Witty Tanker (at 50 but just starting on his Incarnate forms). Leading the team was Artic Shield, with Bullrush, Grim Shield, Megan Watt, and Beron Sunalith powering our way through.
Following on this topic will be photo inserts taken during the four missions leading up to our final battle versus Romulus Augustus. To this I say, ROMANES EUNT DOMUS!!!

I want to thank again every player who ran a Faathim the Kind Weekly Task Force. I hope it had gone well, that you learned how fun these Shard TFs can be - as long as you've got Team Teleport - and that you're willing to run these things next time in
OctoberShardtober.That said, some final screenshots!

Shardtober 2023
in General Discussion
Posted
Just a reminder to players who enjoy running the Weekly Task Forces, that October is coming soon.
Or should I say SHARDTOBER.
The four task forces set in the Shadow Shard zones - Firebase Zulu, Cascades Archipelago, the Chantry, and the Storm Palace - are some of the more challenging task forces out there. Primarily as they are in maps that are hard to traverse without a temporary jet pack or Flight / Teleport powers already slotted.
However, a lot of improvements to game play have made these maps easier to traverse - Team Teleport especially - and quicker to finish, which is why it's highly encourage to use the MONTH OF SHARDTOBER to run these Weekly Task Forces to reasonable success.
(Also, as the Trick Or Treat event usually triggers halfway through the month, you can run a Shard WST to take a break from all the door-to-door fighting)
PLEASE have the Team Teleport powerset - purchased from your P2W vendors located in Atlas Park, Pocket D, and Firebase Zulu (yes there is one to the left of General Hammond). Also have Ouroboros unlocked to use for zone missions back into the City zones to preserve the Team Teleport powers on your team for when you need to zip back to the hard-to-reach Shard zones.
Hope to see you this Shardtober! - Witty Librarian
