Here's Pyrefox with his pets.  And his origin is that the airman he sent to supply for a can of turn signal fluid, actually brought back a can of radioactive turn signal fluid.

That was his airman's origin as well, a rather cute bug gal registered as Deja Thorax.

Some nice pet names there... and the airman's name makes me want to build a crab spider, try and color him all green and name him Lars Larkus.

  2. Congrats Homecoming, congrats City of Heros devs old and new, and congrats to all of us who love this game/our Home!

I already love the event! I love the winter event presents, so this is great, plus variety of ambush spawns, keeps it fun, and the old school ones are awesome! Love having some old 'friends' show up to help!

Looking for this - I'm the kind who needs it spelled out - how long is the time capsules event running? Is it all month (May)?

I looked but didn't see when it ends either in the announcement or today's patch notes - how long do we have?

Particles is the big one on my laptop. I'm fine in a group of eight, but it noticeably heats up in league events like BAF or MSR. The command you want is noparticles, but you don't want to leave it off permanently since things like SG base portals are particles and will disappear with particles off.

For this reason I think it would be groovy if HC could add something simple, like a circle on the ground? to where bas portals are. During the Mapserver event, this advice to use noparticles was all over in game chat. If you know where the base portal is supposed to be, you can find it and click to access by moving your cursor around the in right space till you see the blue hand. But not knowing exactly where it is (like in an unfamiliar zone that does have one) makes it necessary to turn particles back on like you said, for this one thing.

A disk or circle on the ground. That should be easy... maybe?

  4. I enjoyed it immensely. Yes, I'm an altaholic and that might contribute, but in fact, I enjoyed it because.... it was fun! I've always liked invasion events, but this takes the invasion craziness that I like and adds amusing looking mobs, with silly names, and I'm amused! I smile while playing! The GM (which several of the servers collectively decided wasn't "worth it" to the point where it was habit to drone him) is challenging, crazy to look at, and crazy stuff happens. GM dances! Birds drag you up in the air by the head. GM kicks and either stomps you or sends you shooting for insane distances... and then you snap back! It's like an amusement park ride, with combat!

    I get it, it isn't everyone's thing. But... it's mine. 🙂

And this is from a player who generally solos, is not uber serious about it, but very loyal to CoH. This event was created by HC folks who were clever, creative and fun and I send them my approval.

  5. Here's something no one has mentioned. If they are a newbie, and sometimes even if not, are they keeping an eye on the chat window for instructions at all? Do they even have the chat window open? My mate has been playing since live, like me, but she solos most of the time and more than half the time her chat window isn't even on the screen. I'm lucky I'm usually in the same room with her when we do team together. She's not a newb, she's not stupid, she means no harm, but yeah, she never developed the habit of watching chat when teaming. I am anal about it, and even I have missed instructions or accidentally gone against them, but yeah.

If it matters, maybe do a quick roll call before entering the mission and have everyone respond?

  6. For me it's books, fiction specifically. I start reading and I seriously can't put something down (if it's good), to sleep, work, etc. Eventually I went to work at a neighborhood library branch - great for getting the books I wanted to read without having to pay for them, terrible for being distracted so much of the time it was stupid. So I stopped reading books. I know. But I had to. Now I read on the internet, fanfiction sometimes, and I have to be careful there too. I stay up reading half or more of the night when I have work the next day. I work at home on my computer and while I am conscientious , I have to be careful not to read or I'm gone. It's addictive behavior, I recognize it, I know, for me, where it comes from so I have to take it seriously.

CoH does not affect me *quite* the same way, I can stop when I get tired, I can take breaks for days, if I'm busy with important RL stuff, longer. But when they closed Live, I was depressed for years not to have my vacation location available, and believing it was gone forever.

Having it back just relaxes me as a fact of it's existence. So no, we don't all have to leave this too-good game, but each to his own necessity.
