The point is to define and style your character. You don't need alignment tip missions or the morality mission at the end of the 10 to define your character's nature, you do that with your character's bio and how you choose to roleplay the character. And if starting out as a vigilante or rogue at level 1 is important, then like @Lockely said, go talk to Null the Gull in Pocket D and have him make your character a level 1 vigilante or rogue. After all, if your character starts out as one, then why should your character have to wait through 10 missions to have the correct alignment?

I wouldn't be adverse to choosing Vigilante or Rogue from the get-go and redefining what those actually means (i.e. not fallen hero or redeeming villain, but more something like anti-hero and anti-villain), but at the very start your character shouldn't be suddenly changing alignment outside of pure gameplay necessity and, as I said before, we have Null for that.

  2. The author of the article, Jeremy Peel, and by extension PCGamer, has absolutely nothing to gain and everything to lose by making up quotes from NCSoft for the benefit of Homecoming.

What reason could they possibly have that would be a sufficient enough benefit to jeopardize their standing with NCSoft and every other gaming publisher to post illegitimate or misattributed quotes? Common sense alone should be enough to get folks over that hurdle that it makes far more sense for the quotes to be legitimate and NCSoft to have given their blessing.

An author working at multiple respected publications isn't going to put his livelihood on the line for Homecoming. C'mon now.

I would be amazed if NCSoft didn't have "guardrails" in place before sanctioning the licence.

There's a whole bunch of stuff around the IP rights of the game, making sure the Homecoming team do not bring NCSoft's name into disrepute etc etc and I believe without trawling through I'm pretty sure I read that there was no possibility of users being charged to play the game.

NCSoft lost a lot of goodwill in the shuttering of City of Heroes. Frankly as a PR exercise it couldn't have gone much more wrong for them. This does a hell of a lot to reverse that and make NCSoft look like the good guys once more, whilst still giving them a modicum of control over an IP that remains one step away from being feral. They are realists. This is a good outcome for them for minimal capital outlay and they look rosy.

My only hope is they see the love here and realize there are communities around all the games they've shuttered who would gladly do the same as Homecoming.

I would give almost anything to return to Wildstar and run Datascape with my guild once again.

You know, you all talk about how horrible the folks on Reddit are, but you know what I see? I see, right now, in that thread about the PC Gamer Article, a Thuderspy dev kinda smack talking Homecoming and being downvoted by his fellow redditors.

So keep telling yourself that only the people on the Homecoming forums are ok and everyone else is bad/wrong all you want, but it's demonstrably untrue.

And I'm less than sympathetic with people's complaints about the moderation on Reddit when the moderation here on the Homecoming forums has vacillated between "draconian snowflake protection program" and almost reasonable.

To be entirely fair, when I entered that thread, they were in the +20s on those comments (only one of the three TSpy devs participating in the thread are tagged as such in their flair) until people started calling them out.

Who do think is causing the drama? Thunderspy claims that they are no longer the 4chan server heh.

Don't know, what I do know is that I called out said devs on the subreddit for directly attacking Cipher and making up conspiracy theories about HC infiltrating PC Gamer to manufacture a spokesperson from NCSoft to confirm their deal, and was subsequently permabanned for it. 🙂

    So, eh. No big loss.

The majority of the opinions on Reddit are like and kind with those at a bar at 2 AM.  Funny, salient and thought provoking when drunk but utter trash that must be tossed in the bit bucket when you sober up.

I'm not convinced half of them aren't sock puppets from a certain other party who spends 3/4 of their comments shitting on HC at any chance possible.

computers servers and networks all can introduce lag. that's different than arcanatime.

    https://web.archive.org/web/20120904191140/http://boards.cityofheroes.com/showthread.php?p=810428

how to explain in one sentence..

arcanatime attempts to account for server task execution time especially where a power might miss a server click and has to wait for the next one to execute adding a fractional amount of time to the power activation.

If you've played it, it appears similar to the hidden animation lock in FFXIV (0.5s). When an attack 'should' start but it's waiting for the server to acknowledge the last one and you're stuck in the animation lock (it doesn't begin until the server responds to the client), we call that "clipping." What's interesting is there are actually third party tools for XIV that tell the client "Yeah bro you're good." after an estimated 10ms of latency instead of waiting for the actual server reply because, at least in FFXIV, it's all dependent on latency. So if you have 250ms, you have to wait 250ms for the client to get the go ahead from the server to let you attack again.

You're kidding, right?  Mr. G's second mission has you fight five EBs/AVs from the New Praetorians at once while being ambushed by PPD after robbing the Brickstown bank.  The similar mission from Provost Marchand gives you four B-List villain EBs (same losers you fight in Safeguard missions) you can fight one at a time with their associated goons while working your way through the bank,   It's a total joke by comparison.

I'll give you Calvin Scott is a problem for anyone who can't handle his mines but he's nothing close to fighting ALL the New Praetorians at once while being ambushed repeatedly.

I know thats what the Wiki says, but I ran this on my most recent villain and I had to only fight one of them, and there was only one ambush in the middle of the fight. Either it bugged or it was changed and not documented.

I went in fully preparing for major problems, and instead it ended up being one of my favorite missions from the entire set.

It's a mistake to run this arc at the level it's first offered. You just don't have the slotting in place. I tried this once when HC first launched and couldn't get past Silver Mantis in the first arc. It's much more enjoyable to run it at lvl 50.

Perhaps, but it IS offered, and the balancing needs to be looked at because of it. The redside version (Mr. G) isn't nearly as egregious.

I usually wait until I have T3 or T4 Incarnates fitted before running the Calvin Scott mission. You only get a +1 level shift (I usually set the mission to +3), but the Destiny and Hybrid powers make things go easier. Lore pets will eat dirt pretty quickly if you bring them out at the beginning of the fight, so you might want to hold them in reserve.

The issue is that questline is offered to players at level 30, so most won't have those options. I ran it on my MM as I was leveling as I treated it as a normal contact and my bots could not survive more than a moment.

  11. Calvin Scott I think is nearly just as bad an offender. He shows up at the very end of The New Praetorians arc and you have to fight him inside a volcano base where he drops endless trip mines. Problem is he also beats the tar out of you and shows up with a group of EBs, and if you die he just... keeps setting up mines. Once you do the hospital->return loop you spawn directly into a mountain of mines and immediately explode.

I had to eat like 6 full trays of purples AND cheese his range from a ledge to beat him.

On everlasting during the week, they're running at EST 1700, 1900, 2200, and 2400. And they often fillup 30 min early.  (Sometimes earlier)

I'm not surprised that Excel got a couple running concurrently.

I wonder if we can pull off a double in most populous spots on Everlasting. The zone fills up SO early these days.

I understand that, however, I have never seen my pets get unsummoned, dismissed, explode, disappear, or otherwise go away in any capacity when I join or leave a team or league unless doing so levels me down below the level at which I summoned the pets. Pets only go away (outside of combat or being dismissed) if the MM's level drops below the correct level for the pets to exist. If the MM joins a group or gets shuffled to a different team while on a league and finds their level going up? The pets do not go away. They remain at their summoned level. (Which necessitates re-summoning them, yes, after you dismiss them yourself, in order to bring their combat level up to the MM's higher combat level.)

I have literally watched my entire team of bots implode just from leaving a GM league or even an iTF league. I don't know what to tell you, but it happens constantly.

If your pets are dying because you leveled up and not from enemy inflicted damage, you need to report it as a bug. The only time your character changing levels causes them to go away is when you level down. If you level up, they just remain at their current level until you re-summon them or zone.

They're talking about when you join/exit a league or the team order gets shuffled and the leader changes. Your pets instantly explode when they are forced to change level like that and you are forced to resummon and re-buff them.

They updated the bottom of the forums with new licensing information. And when you log in to the game, the current NC logo is present. That's about all I could find beyond faith.

To add to that, all of the loading screens got updated to include the current NC logo, as well as for the CoV ones to remove long dead sponsorship deals like the Nvidia one. Sure, they might have someone super great at photoshop, but I think it's more likely NC provided the clean base images and direction on how they needed to be presented going forward.

Idk if MSR and hamidon are being done more but merit items are everywhere. LVL converters are down where up over a million before there under 800k on average now some people have complained they don't know how to make inf anymore.

I don't know how it is on Excel, but Everlasting hits both of these multiple times a day on a schedule, every single day.

  17. Have I run into people with effects so bright or distracting they make it hard to play? Yes, absolutely, I think we all have.

Is it their job to change their costume or turn off their toggles just to suit me? Absolutely not.

I can just swing my camera or move my player or use "/noparticles 1" if it's really THAT MUCH of a bother. I am not at liberty to police someone else's character design choices when I have more than enough options to work around it myself.

  18. I know for some it's a case of the redraw animation as you 'swap' between weapons (even if theres no swap taking place, see maces and mace mastery), but I wonder if there's an internal 'weapon' that doesn't actually render for weapon-less powersets and you have an invisible 'redraw' period going on.

Maybe it's just me, but besides some background NPCs in labcoats in some of the Portal Corps interiors, who do they actually employ?  Do they have their own security forces?  We have what appears to be US Military in the Shadow Shard, but surely Portal Corps would have access to units similar to the PPD, or maybe even Vanguard.  I'd love to see some of that kind of stuff implemented...

There's only one team for the job...
