My elec/elec dom is always in melee because i built it like that.

And i didn't take jolting chains but i did take Conductive Aura.

I have no problems being in melee range and my end draining is excellent even with just conductive and melee attacks.

I do the same.  My elec/elec feels like cheating, to be honest.  I wade in and have all the time in the world to kill mobs.  It would be boring if it wasn't so much fun to stand next to a boss that can't do anything to you because it has no endurance and is slept most of the time.

  2. Aren't Sleet and Lightning Storm both psuedo-pet summons?  Like most other powers that summon pseudopets, they are not affected by scourge, containment or other AT buffs.  Caltrops, Seeker Drones, etc are similarly not effected, as well, unless I'm missing something.

Hehe, it's already gone off the rails. Go ahead, how much more harm can you do? I think the insurance company has already agreed that it's an unrecoverable loss, and will be covering for the cost of a new one.

I agree.  I'd like to see Tater's list.  He's earned my respect from his posts so I'm interested in his take.

    1. Most of the power of Plant comes from Seeds of Confusion.  So, any group that resists Seeds, like Nemesis, is going to heavily neuter Plant's effectiveness.

Wouldn't that also apply in reverse to Psi-resistant enemies?

    1. Plant lacks a way to handle multiple large groups of enemies that are positioned closed to each other, where Seeds is able to hit one group but not adjacent groups.  Mind is able to put multiple groups to sleep for a long time, all without aggro, through using Mass Hypnosis.

Spore Burst is almost identical to Mass Hypnosis. It has slightly less range but casts faster.  Of the two, I'd take the speed.

  5. Maybe I'm missing a thematic thing here, but why, ever, would you not have Seeds with a Plant dom?  I would argue it's the best overall skill for dominators across all sets.  Without it, why play Plant at all?  Also, while I love the idea of Spirit Tree, it's just not a good power in its current implementation.  If they made it Spirit Treant, so that it could move slowly with  you as Fly Trap and Carrion Creepers do, then it might be an auto pick for every Plant dom.

I made mine with Dark Blast I was looking at Water for a second but I didn't want another set with a stacking mechanic. The reason I settled on Dark was because it has great AoE (If you like Cones), some good disruption (Knockback, -to hit) and a heal power to supplement /elec's somewhat lacking self heal potential

With two 50 SOs and just Hasten you get a 31% heal every 4.5 seconds that has no accuracy check and also heals your Galvanic Sentinel.  Isn't that a pretty good self heal vs. a 16% heal every 4.5 seconds that has an accuracy check and only heals you?

So here's the thing about end drain in PvE... It's all or nothing, so although Dark sounds tempting (and it is a very good set) enemies won't really be wasting end.  If they have end, they will be able to attack is kind of the way that it works.

So, Purely draining, Elec/ is your best choice, however, it is lower in damage than any of the sets that you mentioned.

I haven't played him yet, but I rolled an Elec/Rad defender with the idea that Elec doesn't have any -def or -res and since Rad is all -def, you can proc for that in a couple places.

I think he means that if they do have a few points of endurance and manage to get off an attack, it is likely to miss, only serving to finish the job of draining their endurance for you.

I made an elec/rad as my GM killer, solo'd Scrapyard tonite.

This never crossed my mind as a primarily Dominator player.....but it's super intriguing.  I'd be curious to see your build, Warpact.

There is no mention on what is the most fun to play.

That is likely because fun is probably the most subjective thing in the game.  In any game, really.  Now if you're curious to hear Lobster's opinion on which they find the most fun, good luck with that, because Lobster obviously has many doms and their favorite likely changes based on how the wind is blowing.  😉  I think that's the theme for most of us dom specialists.

Also, the info on Chilling Embrace is outdated.  it now does aura damage AND the radius was increased to 15'.  It also now has an accuracy check, at least for the damage portion.  Not sure about the speed and recharge, but I think those are auto.

Nevermind.  I see you already addressed it in a follow-up.

Any plans on updating some of the outdated info on fast snipe? Since everyone has it now when in combat.

Otherwise, I like the objective approach to ranged vs melee playstyle guidance.

creepers is a pretty low damage power when it comes to single target for a variety of reasons.

That said, my petless plant/poison can drop a pylon in about 3.5 min. So I'm sure a plant/kin could take down some lvl 50 AVs without too much fuss.

I'll second the vote for ill/kin though if kin is what you seek and desire to fight AVs.

Regarding -damage: it is a useful debuff. It falters quickly against +2 or higher AVs unless you have either a lot of it, or a lot if -res to boost it. Many AVs have solid resistances to the same type of damage they deal. It those cases (or when they use a god mode) they will barely feel your -dam debuffs and proceed to deal out very high damage to you and your pets.

Just for my reference, single target or not, wouldn't the creeper vines do at least as much damage to a single target as an aura?  In essence, aren't the creepers really just an aura that doesn't cost endurance?  Just asking since my altitis never lets me reach the part of the game you guys experience regularly.

If you take all the considerations I listed into play, a Corruptor will deal approximately 90% more damage than a Defender.

However, this is only basic damage - it doesn't include procs. Consider a power like Ice Bolt. It does 36.15 damage. Each basic proc you slot into it will average 12.56 damage. With 4 procs, that would be 36.15 from basic damage and 50 from procs.

If we take both the Corruptor and the Defender to cap with perfect Scourge, we end up with 195 + 50 vs. 271 + 50. This is about a 30% advantage for the Corruptor - significantly less than the 90% damage they'd enjoy if you were just considering basic damage.

The other issue that emerges is that Defenders get better everything except damage. Weave is 5% on a Defender, 4.25% on a Corruptor. Maneuvers is 3.5% on a Defender, 2.63% on a Corruptor. And so forth. The consequence of all this minor advantages is that while Defenders can franken-slot all of their powers for maximum damage, Corruptors are normally forced to straight slot them for set bonuses to overcome the disparity in defenses. If you compare a straight-slotted Corruptor vs. a franken-slotted Defender using the above numbers at the damage cap, you end up with a 10% advantage while at the damage cap and gaining the best possible advantage from Scourge - which is about the disparity you'd see in terms of resistance debuffs.

In actual play - where you are rarely at the damage cap, Scourge rarely gives even close to its full benefit, etc. - then you end up with the reality that virtually all the top combinations of Blast Set + Support Set are Defender builds.

I think my only issue with your original post is that you stated "Corruptors aren't very good."  If your math is accurate and I have no reason to doubt it isn't, I think it simply shows that Corruptors are not better than Defenders, all things considered.  Which means they are not worse, either.  Unless your argument is that Defenders also "...aren't very good," then your argument begins to lose it's effectiveness.  Just pointing that out.

  14. Coyote, what about Plant/Kin based on your criteria.  It does't have an aura, but it's got Creepers.  It has immob and the area immob as well, that does double the damage of the other sets.  It also has Fly Trap.  I guess it is a little slow to activate versus Fire but it's damage is comparable. Curious if I missed something.

  15. You are correct.  Thorns in general is the least popular Dom secondary and Electric/Thorn is tied for the least popular combination.

I think most people, like me, that might otherwise like Thorns are turned off by the redraw of the attacks, with no option to disable the redraw as you can with other draw-heavy animations.

  16. I think Electric/ lends itself to being in melee range with conductive aura and Static Field, as does Hot Feet in Fire and Ice Slick or Arctic Air in Ice.   And of course Seeds in Plant allows for carefree melee action.  Of the four, I think it really depends on whether you are focusing on AoE or ST melee to decide.  If AoE, you'll probably want Plant so they don't fight back.  Then Electrice, Ice and Fire in that order based on their ability to fight back.

As far as melee sets, I think the best are subjective based on feel and theme.  My favorite is Savage, but I'm assuming you are looking for something fresh after your Dark/Sav.  My other melee favs are Earth, Martial, Electric and Rad, with Earth being the most melee-focused set of all, in my opinion.

  17. Am I the only dominator that loves Spore Burst.  I know it's only a sleep, but it's tied with Mass Hypnosis as the longest-lasting AOE control with the shortest recharge..  MH has 10' more range but takes longer to activate, which is not a good tradeoff for what it's used for. Spore Burst is a good opener but shines as an emergency AOE control.  That's the reason the range is less important than the activation time and makes it better than MH in the scenario where it will get the most use.   It gives plenty of time for Seeds to recharge to be activated again before they wake.  I know plant is a great set, but after Seeds, the rest of it's control is meh and Spore Burst fills the gap a bit.

The main two I skip on Dark are Shadowy Binds and Possess. If you are planning to solo AVs, you probably want to pick up Possess, though.

I'm really surprised by this.  I rank confuses higher than holds.  Might just be a playstyle thing, but they last longer, look cooler and add a bit to damage.  I understand it allows them to move, but they almost always move where I'd want them to go anyway.  I think Possess and Confuse are part of what makes Dark and Mind appealing at early levels.

Your entire Dom and MM experience is completely different from mine. Like, everything you said, I find to be completely the opposite.

I agree with this.  My doms are very survivable,  moderately strong and relatively fast in the early levels.  They  aren't painful at all and only get better as they get their later abilities.  Some of the control sets can be a little slow, but the assault sets more than compensate for this unless you are deliberately choosing a combination that has no synergy.

Seeds of confusion has the faster aoe recharge than any confusion. 60 recharge (base) with a 29.8 (base) duration which means if you only two slot it with recharge IOs you can get the recharge time down to 32 secs. With hasten about 23 secs. And with set bonuses... even more. It's the best confuse in the game.

It's not just the best confuse in the game, but the best AOE control in the game, period.  t's just THAT good.  Honestly, back on live I always felt that someone fat-fingered the recharge numbers when they plugged it in and always waited for the nerf/bug-fix that never came.  It is what defines the Plant Control set.  Without it it would be a mildly interesting set, at best.

  21. I recently took both to 20 and while Plant is my favorite primary overall, I prefer Dark to pair with Savage.  It almost feels like Savage was designed with Dark in mind, considering there wasn't a thematic primary added to correspond to it. It just feels better and I think there are better sets to pair with Plant.  Either one works, though, functionally and thematically.

  22. So I started the Dark/Psi and I loved it.  Got it to 18 I think and then got sidetracked on a Dark/Savage test.  I had a Plant/Savage I liked and thought Dark/ would be a better pairing with /Savage.  And it is.  I think I like the duo better than Dark/Psi, so I'm back to a Plant/Psi, Dark/Savage set of doms, both of which are great for different reasons.  My problem is that I have such a hard time getting to 20 so I never see Drain Psyche.  On live I had a 50 Plant/Psi, so you would think I'd plug through, but those early levels of /Psi SUUCCKK.
