  1. Some of my fondest early in-game memories were running with the Paragon City Search and Rescue SG on Infinity; the Hollows is where the need seemed to be greatest. Good times, good times.

  2. My personal issue, which seemed to be shared across a not insignificant amount of players, was that while Blueside could elicit the feeling of being a hero, Redside couldn't quite manage the same feat. Your character(s) certainly performed villainous deeds, but trying to live out a fantasy of an Actual Villainous Mastermind was a tough row to hoe.

  3. Sooo, yesterday morning I think it was...might've been the evening before that, whatever, I was in Pocket D and Ascendant stepped through the elevator. Thought someone said Ascendant was gone, all though they didn't specify between the character or the player so perhaps back now?

It's not difficult, but perhaps in questionable taste, to recreate a costume and name.

  4. I don't think I get Discord. Is it really just a collection of constantly updating comment threads? How is a person meant to navigate it to find information in which they're interested?

I'm hoping that these forums (fora if you're fancy) eventually grow to include some or many of the old child boards, such as Servers (SG and Name Watch sub-children FTW), Archetypes, Multimedia and Fan Creations, etc.

  5. I'll preface my .02 inf with the caveat that City of Heroes was the first MMO I ever played, and as such is the benchmark against which I compare all other MMOs.

    That said...

    1. Quality of Writing:  CO's combination of pun-based humor, over the top mannerisms, and thinly veiled pop-culture references doomed any chances I ever had of taking that game seriously. The intro arc in Westside even includes some good old fashioned racism with Hi-Pan (get it? like Lo Pan from Big Trouble in Little China, but SO DIFFERENT) and his inability to pronounce the letter 'L'. Get all the way out of my face with that crap.

    2. Teaming: there wasn't any. Literally the only times I ever ended up on a team were in Alerts/Rampages/whatever those things were called.

    3. Gear:  the whole damn game was based on what gear you had, and the in-game 'economy' is based around the same money-grubbing tactics used by games with in-app purchases. You could (try to) make the case that CoX's Invention System is the same thing, but you'd fail. In CoX, you can earn whatever IOs you want by just playing the game (Merits), and not worry about needing to spend actual money for THE CHANCE to get whatever it is that you're after.

    4. The Community:  CO's community pales so badly in comparison the CoX's that it's barely worth mentioning.

  6. Looks like I owe some people an apology; that Knockback-to-Knockdown IO is part of the Universal Damage category. Since Hand Clap doesn't do damage, you can't put it in Hand Clap. That's my bad.

There's a new "i25" Knockback set that has a Knockback-to-Knockdown enhancement in it, though!  I saw it at the Merit Vendor.

I wonder if it doesn't have the Bonfire fix...

  7. Super Speed + Steamy Mist = invisibility

Weave on a Defender is about an extra 5.5% Defense (and you have to take Boxing/Kick and Tough to get to Weave)

  8. It means volunteers are running this for free and doing the best they can....  The popularity of this show there love for this game is worth their efforts..

In clearer terms, it means that the amount of people trying to log in to the game is exceeding the servers' capacity to host them.

  9. Virtue was my home, and I played mostly with the Golden Age Hero coalition (Young Gods/New Gods/Gods of the Golden Age; Guardians of the Golden Age).

    Most often-played characters:

        *Storm Devil

        *Baron Midnight

        *Mister Wizard

        *Judge Midnight
