  1. Coming to this game as more of a comic book fan than a gamer, I tend to try very hard to create costumes that conform to the aesthetics of each "age", i.e. a golden age costume, a silver age costume, and a modern costume. Then I have my alter ego costumes for each. On a few characters, I have a villain costume for switching sides and very rarely an alternate look or two.

  2. Sonic something would seem like the logical choice. But I would recommend going into the game files and swapping out the sounds. I've never been able to get sonic anything past lvl 4 or so... the sounds drive me nuts!

...and can you imagine arresting a criminal with: "Come on and do the Jailhouse rock with me!"

Origin also affects DO and SO choices, stores you shop in, contacts you select or are assigned by others, and dialog choices (the Origins of Power dialog arc being one example).  While all of these are questionably negligable in the end game (IOs make all of the above irrelevant at Level 50), it's still very much a part of the mid game.

It doesn't even effect store options anymore as the generic vendors near the trainers sell TOs, DOs, and SOs specific to your origin and level now.

  4. I played WoW for many, many years... I went back and forth between CoH and WoW until CoH shut down then went full time WoW. Oddly though, I didn't start WoW at launch. I waited until Burning Crusade. Reason: All the people on the original CoH forums badmouthing WoW made me think it MUST suck! I remember the constant references to "World of Walking", etc...

That's my nostalgia moment for today... 🙂

  5. Is it possible to put this into a macro so it's a clickable?  I feel like if it was macro'd it'd probably not go into the tray and replace the existing one.

In addition to the macro limitations mentioned above, the primary benefit of doing it this way is that, as you level, you may change the power in slot one according to your rotation. For instance, I know that I typically respec out of the tier 1 fast recharge/low damage power eventually.

  6. Maybe just bind it to the s/backwards key, since you don't use that as often... Jus take a step back when you want to change costumes.

I thought about similar things, including a dedicated key like NUMPAD7 or something, but doing it on-demand eliminates the randomness created by the failed change commands.

I don't know if you can hide the error text channel in some way or not. It doesn't really bother since I'm too old and uncoordinated to read the chatbox while I'm in combat anyway...  ;D

  7. So, I had this crazy idea for a character... a shapeshifter named Mr. Anyone... and I figured out how to pull it off.

    Here's what I did:

I created a rotation bind using the bind_load_file command where each successive press of the "1" key changes my costume to the next in sequence, fires off the power in slot 1 and loads the next bind file in the sequence.

For example, this is the text in the file costume1.txt:

    1 "emote none$$cc 0$$pow_exec_slot 1$$bind_load_file D:\coh\bindtext\costume2.txt"

...and so on for all 6 slots.

Now, because you can only change costumes every 15 seconds, when you press the key before the 15-second window is up, the costume doesn't change, but the bind file does... the result being that, when in combat, your costume changes pretty much randomly about every ten seconds.

Then I just went to the surgeon and made 6 completely different people.

Now, whenever I'm in combat, I change into different people randomly!

    Mr. Anyone!

(I'm sure someone thought of this before, but I was rather proud of myself)

  8. Two Cents (may not contribute much to the discussion):

    1) My favorite travel power is SJ (I love roof-hopping), but SJ is pointless in Atlas Park even during non-peak hours if you're on a full or almost full shard... jump... rubberband... rubberband... rubberband... land... 10ft from where you started.

    2) I run all my secondaries with the minimal fx option if available... I do this for a reason... I like my costumes... I work hard on them... I don't want them cluttered with FX... I wish people in Atlas Park would at least ASK before they turn my costume into a walking fireworks show... with a slimy green bubble around it...

  9. I'm pretty bad with builds. Just got my Claws/regen scrapper to 50 and I want to make her decent, but I have no clue... I'm running a lot of toggles and I'm worried about endurance, but I may have too much slotted. Anyone have a build they could share I could look at?

  10. I played live from launch until just after CoV was released. I came back after the game went FTP and played until lights out. Seems there's a bunch of stuff I either missed or just never knew. Little things really...

For instance, I recently learned how to set a power to auto-fire when it's regen is up...

I recently read a thread where people were talking about auto-completing a mission. Is this possible? How?

Any other secrets I should know?

  11. Let me start by saying I love this game... I won't speak for anyone else, but to me, it's the best game ever made. But, like anything else in life, there are things that I don't like... things that annoy me... and things that I just plain hate!

    How about you?

    For me:

Most hated enemy: Malta Sappers - ridiculously over-powered for a minion. Can virtually one-shot your endurance dropping your toggles and then perma-hold you until you die.

Most hated enemy group: Tsoo - Chicken sh$ts... all they do is run away and make you chase them all over map... and sorcerers are the worst of the lot.

Most hated map: Purple caves... nuff said!

I'm sure there's more villain side, but I'm mostly a hero.

    What are your most hateds?

  12. My sons were 7 and 9 when I got them there own account on live. My youngest mostly did it because Dad and big brother liked it, but the 9-year-old played for years. We mostly played together, but he did, quite often, log-on on his own.

All I can say is this:

1: CoH is a lot more "wholesome" than most games out there. Remember, no one ever dies; they just arrested.

2: In the immortal words of CSNY, "Teach your children well..." ...and you won't have to worry about what might happen in chat.
