  1. Thank you all for the replies and for turning my attention to corrupters and sonics. Those are options I probably would have never considered.  I ended up making a Archery/Sonic corrupter. I acknowledge that Archery its not the best DPS, but it just looks so cool and is thematically well-suited to the character concept.

  2. A friend and I want to do a "Dynamic Duo" partnership and level up together as a two-person team. He is playing a Will Power / Staff Fighting Tanker.

     

    What would be the most complimentary and effective archetype and power set to play along side him?  I was thinking an empathy defender, or would some kind of controller be better?

     

     

  3. I don't believe your speed boost works on your pets.

    Only the +Recharge aspect of Speed Boost fails to apply to pets, as far as I know.  It still increases their movement speed and their Endurance Recovery.

    Although, that was not originally the case...depending on when "back in the day" was, it's possible he's remembering a time when the +Recharge still applied too.

     

    Ok so you're saying that not even a fire/kin controller's pets are effected by the +Recharge anymore?

  4. So I made my first MM last night; Demon/Kinetics. Since my only experience with pets was via my fire/kin controller back in the day, I figured speed-boosted pets was the way to go.

     

    I know this thread is about the Robots primary, but read through it thinking I would glean some relevant info. I am rather surprised that kinetics is not considered one of the stronger secondaries.

     

    Should I remake my Demon/Kinetics MM with a different secondary?

  5. Does the Macro / Bind system have a "wait" or "pause" command so that you can do a count down in chat?

     

    I want to set up a count down in team chat for the power "Vengeance " to alert other players that its coming and they should gather close to me to be within range.

     

    This is an example of what I am trying to do:

     

    /macro VENG "team Vengeance in 5 seconds!$$team 5...$$pause 1$$team 4...$$pause 1$$3...$$pause 1$$team 2...$$pause 1$$team 1...$$pause 1$$powexec_name Vengeance"

     

    Is this feasible?

  6. The Defense Soft Cap is generally 45% however there are mobs out there with To Hit Buffs which raise the soft cap. In particular the soft cap is 59% in Incarnate Trials since all enemies have +14% To Hit (although your league is probably throwing around enough defense buffs that you don't care. So for general play a defense greater than 45% will only provide mitigation against defense debuffs.

     

    So, if I want to make a Tanker that works really well for ALL content in the game, I should shoot for 59% soft-cap in AoE, Ranged and Melee, then?

Ok, so back in the day I remember reading this lengthy guide that explained defense in City of Heroes.  It was considered the definitive text on the subject and multiple forum posts referenced it. This document had formulas and everything; I had to print it out, study it carefully for like 2 days and use highlighters. I even got help from a friend at the time who majored in math.

     

    So... It's 2019 and I think I remember the important stuff, but I wanted confirm a few things to make sure I remember correctly.

     

    1.  Soft-Cap for any defense value, regardless of damage type or position, is %45, correct?

     

    2.  Any defense value above %45 does not actually offer more protection in a fight, because mobs always have at least a minimum chance of %5 to hit you, correct?

     

    3.  Any defense value above %45 simply offers a buffer against -Defense Debuffs, correct?

     

    4.  Ideally, you want to focus on the three positional defense values (AoE, Ranged and Melee), because they offer protection regardless of damage type, correct?

     

    5.  +To Hit bonuses are preferred over Accuracy bonuses, because they affect a defense value directly, whereas Accuracy are part of the formula, correct?

  8. I just opened it and found that it works. Are you still using mids or did you upgrade to Pine's Hero Designer v2.21 which has the i25 sets and changes?

     

    That was the problem, thanks. I was using an old version of mid's from like 2012. I posted on the help forum and someone pointed me to the right build planner, thanks for the tip!

  9. As for IO's once you get a good farm toon (spines/Fire) it becomes very easy to max out / IO builds and just generate influence/resources in general. There are all kinds of new shortcuts to generate rare stuff by simply AE farming (emp merits, ATO packs, raw influence gain with xp off, etc).  I think it took me 4 days since starting up to get a PVP IO / Purpled out / +5 / Catalyzed / Accolades / etc blaster for PvP.

     

    Thank you for bringing this up. I have been wanted to create a character that was simply just for farming inf and resources for my other characters. Could you elaborate on what you use (spines/Fire) brute or scrapper? And if your up for it, would you be willing to post a build?

  11. So I downloaded the old Mid's Hero planner to plan out a build for a Psionic Melee scrapper, but that power set does not seem to be included for scrappers.

     

    Are there other Build Planners that do include it? I see some people mention a "Pine" planner, is that one up to date? And if so, can I get a link to it?

  12. The cone isn't wide, but its range is longer than most. So if you take a step back you can hit more enemies.

     

    I'm digging my psi/rad scrap. It's only 28 but it's already shaping up to be my low tf character.

     

    Thanks for the tip.^^ Definitely going to try stepping back and see if that helps. BTW, what does "low tf character" mean?

    Ok, so over in the Brute forum there was a thread about the Psionic Melee and the one of the replies was very critical of Psi Blade Sweep, saying the cone was way too narrow to be of any use.

     

    After using it for bit, I tend to agree; especially when soloing. It is very difficult to position the attack to include more than one mob. It does get easier in a group setting when the mobs are all gathered tightly around a tank.

     

    Over all, I am undecided. I want to keep it cause its an AoE, but not sure its worth the power & enhancement slots.

     

    Do you have any tips or tricks that you use to make it more effective in practice?

  14. I'm currently a level 32 Psi/Rad scrapper and am enjoying it.

     

    It has pretty good ST damage, especially when you trigger the insight buff as it stacks pretty decent DoT. Greater Psi Blade + insight is damn crazy, its damage reminds me of Energy Transfer. If you land an actual crit with Greater Psi Blade + insight you'll put a boss away very quickly.. I don't have the actual dmg numbers at my lvl I've just noticed how fast they go down. Only thing I find underwhelming is mass levitate. It's a very cool looking power but it's all smash damage, with a minor psi DoT if you have insight.

     

    EDIT: insight + Greater Psi Blade adds around 66% of the Psi portion of your Damage. At lvl 32 it crits for over 700dmg (the additional psi dmg isn't doubled).

     

     

    As for soft control, most of the attacks do -recharge, Psi blade Sweep has a decent cone and a chance to disorient, and Greater Psi Blade also applies a mag 3 hold.

     

    You'll have a bad time against Banished Pantheon and Council Robots though, their Psi resistance is very high so you'll hit like a toddler :P

    If you have this in pine/mids, would you mind sharing it? I'd really love to see it since I've been mulling my own idea for a psi/rad scrapper

     

    I actually downloaded mids to plan out a build for a psi/willpower scrapper I am working on. The psi powerset does not seem to be included for scrappers.  please correct me if I am wrong.
