  1. From the i25 patch notes that is the base for what we are playing on.

    Veteran Levels:

This is the new name for leveling up after 50. You can check your current Veteran Level in your info window (previously at any City Info Terminal kiosk, under "Character"). They grant the Veteran badges listed above, and also a second set of hidden badges with Empyrean rewards, front-loaded to allow characters to get all their T3s with 9 Veteran Levels (down from 12) and all their T4s with 48 Veteran Levels (down from 57). The Empyreans are tied to badges and no longer drop on every single level.

    Badges 3 to 24: 20 Empyrean Merits

    Badges 27 to 48: 15 Empyran Merits

    Badges 51 to 69: 10 Empyrean Merits

    Badges 72 to 99: 5 Empyrean Merits

You will also receive 120 threads for VL 1,2, 4,5, 7,8, and 10,11. (This is subject to change.)

  2. Ok Yeah I think something is wrong with being a Villain/Rogue.  Or maybe its redside missions.  I just swapped my Brute back to reside as a Rogue and i've done 5 paper missions and zero drops.  Only recipes for mission complete and tips.  No Enhancements no Salvage no recipes from mobs.

  3. Thank you for all the tips all.

I have noticed you can't seem to use "arcane" portal with tech beacons......so so sad....some of the arcane portal are cool looking but I don't care much for the beacons that go with them.  Oh hmm some portal just don't seem to work hmm...

Oh yes where did you all place kallisti wharf?

I put the Wharf under co-op on my teleporters.  I mean I think both sides can go there?  From what I've found on paragon wiki the zone was going to be a co-op zone and the start of the Battalion story arcs.

An yeah some of the teleporter models just don't work.  "Tech Portal" doesn't I know that for sure.

  4. The only issues that might crop up is the route you ISP sends your connection through to the server.

As an example, I play a freeshard of another game that is located in I believe Germany.  There is a router within the route my ISP sends my data that tends to have 15-40% packetloss depending on the time of day and other unknown issues.  Because of that route I have some lag/disconnection issues that can sometimes be avoided with a VPN. (VPNs can create their own packetloss issues so there is no complete solution)

From what I've seen with the current Homecoming servers, I'm actually just barely missing the crappy router I mentioned above, since my ISP still routes in a similar way I just happen to switch to a different router on that exact hop that has the bad one for the other server.

  5. Its been quite a long time since I messed with tips.  Its 10 tip missions then a morality mission correct?  If so, how about increasing the tip cost from the mission computer to 5 merits each and returning the old reward back to 50 merits.  By doing this it would mean if someone "bought" all their tips they break even on merits.  It would still allow someone to buy a tip here or there to finish their stack and earn some merits.  It would also encourage doing normal missions to earn tips.

If 5 is really too many, then make it 3 per tip.  That would work out to 30 merits for the 10 missions if bought completely, and if the reward is 50 merits it mean they only gained 20 merits total. (similar to the current 20 merit reward)

It would "punish" those that buy all of their tips, while allowing those that earn tips naturally get the full amount.

Just my thoughts on it, anyway.

  6. You know I had this issue on my Brute when I created him.  He was Villain at the time.  I was getting very few drops at all.  I swapped over to hero at I think 15ish so I could work on Atlas Medallion accolade.  Since swapping to Hero my drops have been fine.  Now I don't know if your character having this issue is a villain or not,  but my suggestion would be to go to Pocket D and swap alignments via Null the Gull. (Bird on the truck redside of pocket d) Make sure you have no active story arcs before you swap, just to prevent losing any progress/contact.  Swap to the opposite alignment do a paper/radio mission or three to see if the drops have gotten better.  Then swap back to your original alignment and keep track of your drops.

Oh I should note that this character went through the old tutorial (Breakout) instead of the new Galaxy City one.  May or may not have played a part.

  7. Tequila downloads Homecoming patch files from 4 different mirrors. I would need to know which of the mirrors is being considered malicious in order to see why it's complaining. You can just view the manifest http://www.savecoh.com/manifest.xml with a web browser in order to see exactly which files it's trying to download and from where.

The whole message saying the "connection" being malicious is pure FUD. It's a standard HTTP download on port 80. There's absolutely nothing that the connection can do to your computer, it doesn't establish a two-way connection or open any ports. That antivirus is just trying really hard to prove its useful and doesn't care much if it hits false positives.

A possible reason is that one of the mirrors is in a shared host, which shares the IP address with a multitude of other sites, and at some point, someone downloaded a virus out of one of those, therefore the whole IP was thrown out as malicious. That's a blind guess, but it's the kind of overkill that AV companies are engaging on in order to try to convince people that they detect "more" threats than the competition.

4 different mirrors? Looking through that file I see over 8 depending on which files are being downloaded from.  cityofheroes.exe has 10 mirrors listed for example.  Not to say this isn't a false positive, but with that many mirrors it can also be possible that one of them gets hijacked.

  8. There is a cap of 18 Storage items in a base.  Salvage racks count against this 18 limit as do Enhancement Tables and the Inspiration "Rack".

Depending on how quickly you swap over to using IOs you'll fill up your salvage racks pretty quickly.  With 2 characters I got into their 20s I had already filled 2 racks worth even after making some IOs on them.

  9. Add another teleporter is the only way

Since there seems to be no restriction on Heroes and Villains in the same SG, I setup 4 teleporters for all the beacons.

I have 1 teleporter for all Villain zones. 1 teleporter for co-op zones.  The remaining 2 are setup for Hero beacons.  1 for city zones and the other for hazard and echos.

  10. Are you over the 10 beacon limit?  Is there a rogue beacon you thought you deleted but ended up attaching outside of the base walls?  Could be one of those things.  I had 2 rogue beacons behind a wall the other day when I was trying to setup my teleporters, they were causing me to go over the 10 beacon to portal limit despite only having 10 beacons visible at the time.

  11. I used to always try and transition to standard IOs around level 30.  If I recall a lvl 30 standard IO is equivalent to an even level SO in value.  So I'd have a combination of lvl 30 35 IOs as I made my way to 50.  I'm pretty sure I would also start looking and piecing together some set IOs around 35 40.  Unless the set I wanted could be slotted at a lower level without issue or was capped at a lower level anyway.

As an example my lvl 20 Brute has a lvl 15 Karma Knockback Protection IO slotted already because I got lucky with the drop and the fact there is no difference in performance based on its level.

  12. Boomtown reconstruction was active on live servers. I can’t recall which issue it was launched, but close to when game was shutdown.  I think about the same time the trailer for City of Hero was released for Asian market. One of the Korean epic AT is appeared in Boomtown about this time.

I think you are confusing Boomtown with Faultline.  Faultline got updated and had the Korean Sig Heroes in it.

  13. Wait, so I'm confused. Is the AE server a separate piece of software/hardware?

The missionserver, as its called, is a separate piece of software that stores the mission data as created by players. It does use some resources, but that part is not a big deal. Once you start an AE mission, it's loaded in a mapserver, like any other mission. They are not treated any differently.

The problem is that players can build missions that are a lot more resource-intensive than normal missions from the game. When enemies spawn in normal missions, most of them have their AI in an "idle" state until they are aggroed, which doesn't require much processing power. But most AE farms rely heavily on ambushes or patrols, which spawn the critters with fully active AI. And that's the problem.

Missions are run on 9 servers with a total of 224 cores. For the most part you can run lots of zones and missions on a single core without a problem; but AE farms tend to max out a core all for themselves. If there's just 100 AE AI-intensive farms running, that eats half of the mapserver processing power for all 4 shards.

    Fascinating.

Do we have any info on how NCSoft handled this? I can't believe they were just throwing money at the problem over and over instead of figuring out a way of making the AI requirements from AE missions draw on elastic resources...

If I'm remembering right, the way NC dealt with the problem was removing the missions when they found them. No farming missions, no problem. Of course, they weren't transparent about WHY they were so against farming, but at this point, I'm guessing it's because the farms were taxing their server cpus.

Didn't just lead to people having their farm missions unpublished when not in use?  I vaguely recall a couple of ticket farms that would appear/disappear at random times which seemed to mean someone was just publishing it when they needed.  Maybe I am wrong and the guy just uploaded it each time they played and let the thing get deleted, but I do remember the same couple of farms with the same "description" appearing and disappearing.

  14. Haven't used it on this version, but my best guess for the problem is that HeroStats is looking for the wrong exe file to read/load.  I'm pretty sure the old retail was coh.exe, while the freeshard is running score.exe

Someone would likely have to take apart HeroStats to figure out if I'm correct or not though.
