  1. I seem to recall reading somewhere recently about an illusion martial dominator with crazy single target DPS.

Checked the pylon thread over in scrapper forum but couldn't find it.

    Anyone have a link?

    Edit: found link

    9) Implosion – You concentrate gravity within a single target at medium range, causing it to collapse in on itself. Regular enemies (Pets, Underlings, Minions, Lieutenants, and to a lesser extent, Bosses) suffer a high chance of being destroyed outright even if they withstand the damage, special enemies (Elite Bosses, Heroes, amd Arch-Villains) have a sizable chance of taking double damage, and Giant Monsters and other rare, powerful enemies face a further chance for triple damage. Implosion is staggeringly powerful, but costs a lot of endurance.

    Damage: Extreme Energy Recharge: Long

I misread the power. Description sounds like a blaster nuke, but you've listed it as a single target attack.

  3. Not that this is the topic at hand, but I'll just chime in to say I agree with the sentiment regarding cones in assault sets.

Poor design choice that has never been fixed.

Makes more sense on blasters to take the occasional cone for set bonuses or as a "just in case I find myself in a cone favorable position, and because I have so many attack powers, so why the fuck not."

Dom builds are generally far tighter than other ATs, and cones end up being a near universal auto skip.

  4. For confuse:

If the choice is between a 25% chance to dominate and a shorter recharge, I would take the shorter recharge.

If the choice is between 100% chance to dominate and a shorter recharge, I would take the 100% chance to dominate.

I suspect it is meant to be a soft form of control, hence why it was not offered with 100% chance to dominate.

    For aoe sleep:

I think I prefer the sleep patch.

    For single target powers:

The set is a little light on damage. Wouldn't mind some increased animation speed.

Not a fan of, "Buttstroke" either. It may be the correct term and even an unnecessary and avoidable double-entendre, the real issue for me is that it's inconsistent.

The Pummel power has been around since legacy. It's literally the same power, there's no reason there should be two different names. Note the similarity in each powers description:

Pummel - "You can smash your opponents in close combat with the butt of your sub-machine gun to deal minor smashing damage. Pummel has a high chance to disorient your foe for a brief time."

    VS.

Buttstroke - "A smash with the butt of your rifle with a high chance of disorienting"

It's 2023 and we don't kink-shame so everyone should feel free to buttstroke as long as it's consensual. But in the same update that Epic Pool names are being streamlined and VEATs are even being updated yet no powers are being renamed, so many potentially annoying conversations could be avoided if we just called a "pummel", well, a "pummel".

Agree. A little surprised Buttstroke made it this far.

    Yes, it's hilarious.

    Yes, it's technically correct.

No, it's not appropriate for CoH. *

Yes, it contravenes CoH naming conventions.

Honestly, there's a reason the OG devs didn't name Pummel as Buttstroke. See * above.

Time to do the right thing Devs.

Look for a dom with fast aoe control because single target control is basically irrelevant on most teams. It's kind of meaningless solo too, but some people swear by playing slowly with st confuse.

Probably want some decent soft control for the many times that hard control fails in harder content. Soft control that actually matters are things like knockdown patches and big slows. Tohit debuffing is nearly worthless in more difficult content.

That should make your choices pretty clear for primary.

I like /fire for teams simply because there are times you won't survive in direct melee range. Fire lets you sit comfortably 20ft back and still get all the buffs and none/less of the near instant deaths.

/psi is unmatched for survivability. That shouldn't matter as much in a team, but if you solo difficult stuff it can be significant.

This sums up Doms very well.

Yeah there are various workarounds that function to one degree or another, but none are ideal, mostly because they require constant user input. So once you're AFK for a brief period of time (pee break, getting food/drink, partner/pet aggro, or just waiting for a team to form) you're going to lose your buffs. Which isn't terrible for PBs, but really sucks for a Dom.

I could probably write an AutoHotKey script that would get the job done, but again, not an ideal nor elegant solution.

    True. There's no free lunch.

But cycling 4 keybinds actually works well for time periods when you are actively playing.

    Like really well.

I say this as someone who has more Doms than all the other ATs combined.

Yeah, that's my other level 50 (Fire/Psi Dom) that's been sitting around collecting dust because it's another build that's gonna be a pain in the ass. Cause I'm with you, juggling Hasten and Perma Dom isn't fun.

I know allowing multiple powers to be auto'd opens up a can of worms, but there are some times when I really wish we could.

This is pretty easy to do with the bindloadfilesilent command.

  9. Elec is somewhat of a melee primary with its end drain aura and sleep patches.

Fire is primarily a ranged set and has dots. Which break sleep.

That said, it could probably work. Fire is a very strong secondary and electric is a perfectly workable primary.

Just to correct this you can actually do better with a little more recharge

    BU> Assassin's Blades> Ablating strikes > Sweeping strike > Ablating strikes again

No Power slice needed as Ablating strikes does almost twice the DPA and insures that Archlies heel proc has max uptime

    This is the way.

  11. I've said it before many times, but I'll say it again: I'm still not sure why AoE holds are on a 4 min cooldown. The few times I take them, I'm doing it for set mules.

They're very handy when you need them, but 4 mins is just punishingly long.

Remember when Nukes had a 6 minute cooldown? And a terrible crash? And they were changed because it sucks to have a power that it is up so infrequently you wonder why you took it?
