You're not wrong - but a little bit of narrative incongruity is much better than than the player not understanding the basics of the game. The sad reality is that the Galaxy City tutorial just isn't a very good tutorial. Annoyingly, the Praetorian tutorial is actually the most effective one - but you're then in Praetoria, which is way too hard for a brand new player.

My hope is that we can do some improvements to all the tutorials in i28, but in this patch we're specifically focusing on low hanging fruit.

An initial thought that popped into my head would be to remove Galaxy City from character creation and instead add it as an option when you speak to Coyote or the Arachnos pilot after the vanilla tutorials. Like, now that you're oriented Galaxy City could use your help (and you can properly flow from a good tutorial into Habashy's storyline) or choose to decline and continue to Paragon/Isles. I haven't played the Galaxy tutorial in a long time tho, so it might require too much clean up/culling at the beginning of Galaxy so it doesn't sound like you just created your character.

    Thoughts:

Opps, one more: in Atlas Park, I have Johnathan St. James Smythe as my contact and marked on the nav bar, but I was told to go to Ms Lib.  Might be confusing.  Ms Lib should probably tell me to talk the Matthew Habashy.  (Edit again: talk to Iris Parker, defeat all zombies in the sewer, yeah I'm directed to start the old introductory mission sets.  Besides Habashy might want to send me to the "Longbow Sewer Inpector" to learn about DFB.  (That's a job?  How bad do you have to eff up for Longbow to put you in charge of inspecting sewers?)

Habashy's story continues from him escaping from Galaxy City. It would break flow to have him be the initial contact after Outbreak. A new player may even think "This guy's quest is from the other tutorial. I guess I picked the wrong one."

I don't know if they have the tech to - A: Know which tutorial a player completed when they spawn in AP.

-and B: If so, send them to Matthew if they picked Galaxy or their Origin contact if they picked Outbreak.

Also, if If we split player's guidance based on which tutorial they picked - we run into the conundrum of Galaxy being a weak tutorial but Habashy's story arc being the better, more consistent 1-10 content.

  3. Just a heads up - More of a change than a bug.

On this wiki page  https://hcwiki.cityofheroes.dev/wiki/Cce_(Slash_Command) it lists Binds and Macros for costume changes. i.e. /bind NUMPAD0 "emote none$$cce 0 ccBackFlip"

However, with the animation changes in the April 20th patch none$$cce appears to have broken and the emote does not play, just the costume changes after about 10 seconds.

I tried removing the "none" from the line, because the wiki says this is for an animation cancel and animations were changed, resulting in /bind NUMPAD0 "emote $$ cce 0 ccBackFlip" the change and emote work however you get a syntax error in your system messages.

The command /bind NUMPAD0 cce 0 ccBackFlip with no quotes and without emote none$$ appears to function normally. The animation plays and there is no syntax error.

If you use the CCE binds from that wiki page, you may need to update your binds accordingly.

  4. Does anyone happen to know the file name for Initial Strike or other Street Justice powers? They peak pretty bad and I'd like to tone them down.

If there's a way I can browse the sound directory to try and find it myself I'd be open to that as well. I'll post it here for the spread sheet once I have it narrowed down.

I hate using mouse movement in this game as it requires me to hold down the right mouse button constantly.

Once these controller enhancements are fleshed out, any chance of having a mode similar to this for KB/Mouse where we can hold something like LControl to get mouse mode (or toggle it), but effectively be in freelook with the mouse otherwise?

edit:  There is a setting that does something approximately like this, but everything I have ever read on it says it is horribly unreliable.

As middle-mouse is only used to spin the camera around to see your character, you could rebind it or a thumb button (if you have any) to toggle auto run on/off.

  7. Simply, Thank You.

At over 9000 I hope you and the rest of the un-snappers get to enjoy some barbecue for the holiday.

The only thing I've seen that's concerning me is the amount of people begging for custom power sets; getting to choose from any power in the game every level. That, in my opinion would make the game feel far too "private-server-ey" if you will. It would absolutely kill the feel of the game and the point of a team. However, I'm sure the idea is so ridiculous and the population of people requesting it is so small that it is not even on your radar. But it is 2019 and people tend to think they can get whatever they want from a private server.

  8. That's my thinking. SG default skybox general use, room-specific skybox for specific ambiance.

On that note, I wish bases had place-able windows, even with the lack of cityscape or other borderscapes.

Have you not seen Leandro's latest stream? Or most of the base building screen shots on discord?

Build outside the grid and you can have as many windows as you want:
