  1. Well, it lists ACCURATE to hit debuffs but NOT ToHit Debuffs on the allowed enhancements.  Sounds like it's an omission rather than a bug per se.

I'd agree that if it'll take the Accurate version it should also take the standard version as well.  That it doesn't is either an oversight or a deliberate decision by the Dev team.

Unfortunately, the other toggles all have the same issues.  Stone Armor remains a throwback to the early days of the game.  Now I've been trying recently to put together what exactly is wrong with Regeneration and figure out what it needs to be viable.  But Stone Armor is something I really don't care about.

At least not until it gets ported to Stalkers.  That would be totally worth it.....

Er, just HOW would Stone Armor work on Stalkers?  Penalties of -run, -jump, -recharge, -damage baked into Granite Armor.  It's a not well thought out tanker set that doesn't lend itself to a damage oriented AT.

I've played Stone Armor to 50 twice back in the issue 5-9 days and it's unrivaled for pure durability but it sacrifices everything that makes a damage AT to get there.  It's a big, nearly immobile stone wall that will survive nearly anything the game can throw, but it can't fight back well.  30% damage and recharge debuff as I recall, inability to jump over a 6" curb and massively slowed movement speed is incompatable with a primarily damage dealing character.

I played it in the days after the Great Defense Nerf and ED destroyed the durability of all other tanker sets because it was best suited for a pure tanking role and the only set to approach the durability tankers took for granted in the old days.  Once IO's came around and allowed other sets to once again compete on durability the penalties of Stone were no longer worth the benefits.

Actually have about a 1/2 dozen tubs of 1970s-1990s Marvel, X-Men, New Mutants, X-Caliber, X-Factor, SubMariner, Machine Man, Wolverine, She Hulk etc. Going to catalog them for sale soon as a pre-retirement supplement. Even have a rough1940s Captain America that I found in a junk box at a Flea Market when I was in High School. Sold my 1970s-1980s Avengers and Fantastic Four 30 years ago for about $4000 so I figure the stuff I still have should price out well. Haven't even looked at them for years, just taking up space, just like all my music gear, lol.

I'd thought the same about 20 years ago and found that nearly everything from the 80's & 90's was mostly worthless.  I had several thousand issues, mostly complete runs from the early 80's to the mid to late 90's and only got about 5 cents an issue on average.  If I'd sold them myself piecemeal I might have done a bit better but still they weren't worth much.  Apparently the comic market glutted in that era and there's way more supply than collector demand.

Ah yes!  The classic "some random hero" as a character name, roleki.  Always a hoot to see the NPCs make fools of themselves.

"It's some random hero!  I heard they defeated Hamidon!"

A SG mate of mine on Live had fun with that with a couple characters, Local Man and Area Man.  "Local Man, the most famous hero of all"

What movie would you like to see a remake of?

Personally, I'd love to see 'When Worlds Collide' remade and closer to the book.  I'd also like to see 'After Worlds Collide' made for a sequel, which was never done with the original movie.

Wow, I found that omnibus book in my high school library around 1980 and loved it.  The Hollywood "adaptation" seemed to have been done by someone who never even read the thing.

Ive been meaning to go replay that myself. Fun fact.. I own KOTOR II but have never played it.

I own both 1 and 2; it's been so many years that playing KOTOR 2 now is like a new game.  I do suggest some of the graphics mods from Nexusmods.com for it to bring the resolution up to something relatively current; it is a 2004 game after all and by default unmodded runs at around 800x600.

  7. I've found when I'm stuck for a name that either going to a historical reference (Archery/TA blaster named Sagitarii after the Roman archery units) or loading up a Synonym checking site provides inspiration.  For example, plugging in Ice gets Crystal, Frost, Glacier, Rime etc.  Play around with it until something clicks.  That approach way back in issue 4 got the name for my Dark/Dark Defender, Dusk til Dawn.

    Slash and Taunt.

Agreed, these are the two skippable powers in BS.  Hack, even though it's the T1 is actually a quite good attack.  Slice is a nice wide AOE.  Parry, what more needs be said about it?  Build Up is a staple in a Scrapper build.  Whirling Sword is another nice AOE.  Disembowel combines a lot of damage with a nice knock UP.  Then you get to Headsplitter, technically an AOE but practically your best ST attack since the cone is so extremely narrow.

Can't be overstated. KB to KD proc in shockwave is a game changer.

I tend to think that ANY KB power is much better with the KD proc.  Aside from a couple of Blaster secondary ST "Go AWAY" KB powers everything works better as KD.

He's always been a little twitchy, but this time I think he burned out a microchip.

  11. I tried out Star Wars Jedi Fallen Order.  I've gotten to the third planet and I'm not really impressed.  No ranged attacks... but the enemy usually have them and start shooting at you way before you close to melee.  Nothing but mazes intricate enough to make Oranbega seem straightforward.  Jump/move sideways/JUMP/RUN/force slow the pounding hammer/Jump/RUN again and if you're a half second slow you start over.

I'd expected a similar game to Knights of the Old Republic and got a maze puzzle game.  No armor upgrades (or armor at all for that matter).  No lightsaber upgrades other than purely cosmetic.  I'm debating reloading KOTOR.

This is not always true. I know plenty of people who managed to "fail up" for a large part of their careers. This guy probably the most obvious case of that. And I am not saying he does not work very hard and have a deep and lasting impact in the companies where he works. I am saying that his doing that, to my knowledge, has never been a good thing.

I don't know of any innovation or positive effect he has had on anything I enjoyed. I think CoH would have been a vastly different and far better game if he had never been involved in it.

He may have been effective in actually getting things done.  Unfortunately I think he should have stuck to running the company instead of sticking his oar into the development.  Ultimately I think COH was at it's best after he'd been shown the door.

He had his vision and whenever players didn't follow along with his vision he took it as a personal insult.  Remember when he thought everyone would use multiple different enhancements in a power and was astonished that they'd maximize it's effectiveness instead?  He tended to swing the nerf bat HARD.  And then swing it again.  And again.  Then promise no more nerfs.  Then the very next issue hit us with ED, the biggest nerf in the game's history.  Then he made a snarky comment that it wasn't nerfing powers, it simply nerfed enhancements.  Frankly I don't know of any player who wasn't thrilled when he left and Positron took over the top job.

I mainly made a FA / SS as a reincarnation of my main on live. I chose that combo without knowing it was popular back in the day. I thought what could be more cool than a fire shield and being super strong? My first 50 on live (only one of 2 50s even after playing for years) was a SS / FA Brute.  I figured I would resurrect him as a tanker.

It should work just fine.  Since you're familiar with the way the Brute version worked you'll find the Tanker to be very similar.  As you know Fire Armor isn't the toughest set but it's capable of handling most anything with a good build and intelligent play.  It should play very similar to your Brute without needing to chase Fury.

    Quick update.

I ended up making two tankers. One is the shield defense / electric and another is fiery aura / super strength. Both are in their thirties and have been fun so far.

I’ll update again when I get one of them to 50. Might be a while with my altitis though haha.

Glad you're having fun with your tanks.  I've played both Shield and Fire primaries on Tankers and they're nice.  The Elec secondary I only have with my Elec/Shield Stalker and I've never played SS but both should be solid pairings.

Yeah, I know SS is the thematic Tanker secondary but I just never got into it.  At first around issue 3-5 it was because every other Tanker you saw was Invuln/SS and later on because I wasn't a fan of the Rage mechanic.  I know Hyper swears by it, I just figured I'd likely end up swearing at it.

And something not mentioned often but I think is true is /Regen can do very well to lower levels as an exemplar particularly with Broadsword and Katana owing to Parry (combined with the slots and global recharge of an exemplar build) .

Quite true, it's a set that matures early.  Regen is probably at it's strongest relatively in the 20's, so with decent IO sets becoming available around that time it can maintain effectiveness.  With my last Regen I leveled, a Fire/Regen stalker here, I found that focusing on S/L defense seemed to work well.  Adding Parry to the list to handle anything melee that defends against a good majority of the damage you'll face.

Since you're starting with zip for defense it's rather tough to build up soft capped def to multiple types or positions.  That being the case the best bang for the buck defense is defiantly S/L... my recollection is that something approaching 70% of all damage has a S/L component to it.  Most energy also has smashing after all.  Cold frequently comes paired with lethal.  And, as a scrapper a pretty good percentage of the damage you'll take is melee after all... something Broadsword handles quite nicely.  It's trivial to maintain a double stack of Parry for (unenhanced) 30% melee/lethal defense.  Couple that with your regeneration and heals... it works pretty well.

  16. I didn't get Aid Self on my Elec/Shield and never really missed it much leveling up, the situations where I needed a heal were rare enough that the occasional green candy was plenty.  I DID get Rebirth for my incarnate power and it's sometimes useful doing silly things like farming massive spawns back to back at x4 +8.

I also think it's best as a Stalker set although it's quite good on any AT, the Assassin's Strike we get does tend to solve the ST damage lack the other AT's face with Elec.

  17. The combinations I've most enjoyed were Broadsword/Shield, Electric/Shield (admittedly this was a Stalker) and Broadsword/Regen (back in issue 3, with some work still effective at shutdown).

Regen isn't an easy set nowadays and it takes considerable work to make it competitive in survivability.  Even then it lives and dies by it's clickie heals of Reconstruction and Dull Pain.  Broadsword helps considerably with Dull Pain er, I mean Parry, stacking up significant amounts of Melee defense but it benefits greatly from IO defense builds.  At it's best you'll still need to be aware and quick on the heal buttons but it's a very active set to play.

If you want to clear maps fast it's hard to do much better than Electric/Shield; it's a great combination for killing entire spawns in seconds.  The Scrapper version lacks a hard hitting single target attack that the Stalker gets so I personally think it's better on the Stalker AT.  Frankly in general Stalkers play like a Scrapper with Stealth.  Jump in and start the massacre, then move on to the next.  I play them virtually the same.

  18. I'd suggest after defense you think about resistance.  Any way you look at it you're going to get hit 5-10% of the time with SR so after you soft cap defense it's time to go resistance to take some of the sting out of it.  Possibly look into a self heal like Aid Self for when things get pear shaped.

What about Bio Armor / Stone melee? Thoughts on that?

From what I've heard Bio has it's plusses and minuses but I've never played it myself.  From what I've read the durability or damage or endurance stances would make for an interesting character.  And Stone Melee is a load of fun to play while offering considerable damage mitigation due to it's knockdowns, the KD/Stun of Fault (a great opener to get everyone's attention) and Seismic Smash's MAG 4 hold.  I'd suggest Heavy Mallet, Taunt, Fault, Tremor and Seismic Smash as the "must have" powers in the set.  Fault also takes a number of IO damage procs and due to it's recharge they'll usually fire on most every mob in range almost every time.  CMA has 3 slotted and at 50 that's close 300 points of damage out of that "no damage" power.

    I just rolled a stone/stone.

Anyone ever play a stone/stone to 50? I've never done one before, but I've heard good things!

It was a popular combo on Live, however Stone Armor isn't as popular anymore.  After level 32 it offers unmatched durability but it also has very limited mobility, slow recharge and lower damage than any other character.  With IO's it's now possible to nearly match Stone's durability with none of it's drawbacks making it unpopular.  How do you feel about Teleport for your mobility?  You'll need to get used to it or you won't be able to get over a curb in combat with your mez protection (Rooted) or Granite Armor activated.  Make friends with a Kinetic so you can move faster than a slow crawl without dropping your defenses.  Unfortunately that's the reality of playing Stone Armor.  If you want to go with it then by all means, just realize that it comes with some really heavy penalties.

I've played two Stone Armor tankers to 50 on Live, both of them after the great Nerfs of issue 5 and 6 butchered the durability of all characters.  At the time Stone was the only tanker left that could approach the durability all tanks took for granted in the early days of the game.  We gritted our teeth, teamed with Kinetics and took Teleport so we could have mobility and tanked on.  Now that many tanker primaries can again reach unkillable levels of durability Stone's primacy in that regard is no longer viewed as worth the penalties it imposes.

Still, it IS the most durable tanker out there... once you get Granite Armor at 32.  Before that you'll be fairly squishy and will have to be careful.  Be aware that Stone Melee is a fantastic set with loads of soft controls in knock downs, stuns and a MAG 4 hold in Seismic Smash... however it IS endurance heavy.  I've played Stone Melee since issue 3 when I rolled up CMA and it's probably my favorite tanker secondary overall.
