There's an emoji, so I guess this was a joke.  But I am not name camping anything.  I make a new character, play it to 50 +3, and then make a new one and repeat.  Lots of Fleas.

So I don't know who is name camping.  I don't think it's cool for people to make a bunch of level 1s to camp the name.  But I also don't like any of the suggestions made to fix that more than the Dev's proposed change.

So the flea circus is in full swing? Do you have Flea Willy the water controller?

Alt isn't a four-letter word. It only has three letters.

Plus, you are bad mouthing Alts in a game that gives you the option to have 1000's times more Alts than any other game.

I have over 170 Alts at this point.

Then you have an issue, don't you?

The game mechanic is there to explore other power sets, and you bad-mouth it.

That's all on you. You have the freedom to choose.

    Uh, huh....

... and that would be trolling the forums?

    I mean seriously.

Is that what this post was or do you actually have some point with your end statements or any of this post for that matter?

Perhaps you are intoxicated. Intoxicated posting happens.

170 alts...rookie numbers I have over 330 alts and I have had fun with all of them. I have learned how other classes/specs play I hateed playing with stormers but I made and leveled one and I understand them a LOT more. I still dont prefer to play one, but it makes a lot more sense now.

Huh? Famous live player? No player was famous in the strict definition of the word. Perhaps well-known in their social group on the server they played on, but nobody was famous, sorry.

One might make the case that Beefcake got fairly famous for presumable paying someone to pigg dive and build vidiotmaps. (That's a sketchy synopsis/summary of things I've heard - no representation of accuracy there)

But that's nitpicky of me, for sure.

I see different sides to this. When I make a new character, the first thing I think of are the sets I want to play, usually. Rarely, I come up with a name first. I was watching WWE and some lady wrestler was doing a promo, making fun of her opponent calling her "The Scary Queen of Scots"...no doubt a play on "Mary, Queen of Scots".
So, I made a new character with that name.

Lately, I've seen a Mary Queen of Scotch. A variation on the same theme, I suppose.

We all do things our own way, and I can understand the frustration of thinking of this new theme/concept/idea only to discover someone else is using the name you wanted. It's frustrating.
True story here: In grad school, I was considering pursuing a PhD. It would be expensive and certainly exhausting. It wasn't part of my master plan, but it occurred to me to at least consider it. I had this idea after watching a NASCAR race when the driver I was pulling for had to unexpectedly pit because of a flat tire. The year was 2003, and I was driving a 1987 Ford Taurus. At the time, it was a pretty popular, reliable car, and it was paid for, ran well.

Seeing this issue with the tire caused me to ask myself, "Wouldn't it be cool if we could design a sensor to tell us when a tire is running out of air? I mean, that can't be that hard to do."

Well, I found out after reaching out to a retired pit crew boss who told me the odds of any pit boss sharing information on tires would be very, very low, and that there was already a tire pressure sensor in the market.

Someone had already thought of "my idea" and successfully designed, tested, manufactured and marketed it. Several years before I did.

Driving an older car, and never needing to rent a newer car...I just didn't know this was already out in the market.

There is nothing new under the sun. Someone has the same name you do, somewhere. You might have thought of it - but odds are, someone else has as well. It's not a great feeling to see your idea has been implemented by someone else. I get it. Trust me, I get it.

Eventually, patents expire. There's nothing now to stop me from coming up with a new way to the same thing the current air pressure sensors in tires work. Your concept can still work, but you just have to approach it from a different angle. It's damned annoying, we all get it, but that's also a chance for you to show creativity.

And I'm sorry, using 0 instead of O is probably okay, but using (as an example) Apache-Fire because Apache Fire is already taken...that's really annoying. Especially when I'm at ToT with that character, and then you show up with your character, and I am asked why I'm multi-boxing when I'm not. Yeah, I don't like that. Take that to another server or come up with something else.
That said, nobody cares if I like it or not - and I don't have to like it. It's your game, too.

I have been asked one time if I would give up a character's name - and I did. Didn't charge them any inf at all. I think they had big fun with "Big Kahuna" on Torchbearer.
My character there was a PL'd controller, of all things, that at the time, I didn't have the inf to slot properly, nor did I really understand how to play it, which is why it was idle, and long forgotten since Excelsior had opened.

I still like the name; but if I'm not using it, and it's not on the server I'm playing on, feel free to ask me.

This thread is going to the americans...I have to give it a big J ranger!

You can guarantee no copyright holder of a superhero (or magic, cartoon, etc.) IP will *ever* come to COH and check things out? Ever?

Besides, while not privy to what agreement was signed and all the details between here and NCSoft, I'd call it a safe bet that part of it involves running it much like live as far as stewardship, copyright, etc. goes - and the flip side of that is that a copyright holder has to take steps to defend their copyright. Doesn't matter if it's Marvel vs DC or Dark Horse vs tiny little MMO community. We don't want that sort of attention - and being able to show policing and enforcement does nothing but help us.

and just getting a legal filing against us would be the end. Lawyers are expensive.

Me too!  I made Cousin Psyche, whose costume was identical to Sister Psyche except for face and hair.  Generic'd.

I inquired with Cuppa Jo, pointing to the fact that no dev uses Sister Psyche as the representative, and even though my character looked different and should be identifiably not the signature hero... it's still their trademark/copyright.  I got an immediate response of no, that should be fine, and not long after my character's costume and name were restored.  I guess it was an over-ambitious GM who tagged me.  But it was good to get my Cuz back.

I had back alley broiler which looked like BAB with a chicken head. they never had a problem.

If you have a problem with the new Council, you can change difficulty settings. Because that's what they are for. People who want the Council to not be complete pushovers do not have the option to go to higher difficulty than +4/x8.

please tell me what setting reverts all the changes. these changes affect the base identity of the group. They take away a group that was the basis for the less challenging game play. it is possible to add, without taking away

I tried testing the new Council with my level 30 Sentinel, but I couldn't get any radio missions with Council in the time that I was willing to spend on it.

In any case, I just boosted my Fire/Energy Sentinel up to level 40. Once again he had just even level SOs, except for a single Performance Shifter proc for the extra endurance. Now he also has Assault, Tractics, and Tough.

Radio missions at +1 x4, Council are way more difficult at this level than they are on the live servers. Of course, the fact that I ran into several groups that were all, or mostly, the new Galaxies probably had something to do with that. Is that really supposed to happen? In any case, a few inspirations and I was fine.

Definitely more interesting to fight than before.

I would much rather seen a new faction and leave council for people that like boring. People that like the game they played for all those year that had boring parts going away. why does giving a few challenge take away from those that like the game as it is? add, dont take away

What you can do draw is attention to the changes after they drop and try to snowball any player discontent into something then. This is not the place to effect change; that is not the game that is played here.

It seems that there is never a place for discussion about whether a change is needed or not. Its always just discussing the fine tuning of the changes. The grownups have decided what shall be and shut up and know your place.

That most of us (Me included, here- 😅) have only been testing these guys and the new Circle either with teams anchored by 50's, or with our 50/50+ characters solo, is a good point... We need to try them out with more non-50 and non-finished characters. We know our stronger characters can handle them, but these things are going to show up "in the wild" well before everyone gets to that point.

I'm a "serial alt-ist". I finish one character completely before I move on to the next one, so I don't have a collection of unfinished non-50s in my crew to throw at the new goons, but I've moved the one that I *do* have (a level 45 Psi/Shield Brute with a partially put together IO set build) to the beta server. My plan for this afternoon is to run him against both these Council guys and the new Circle, just to see how he holds up. He doesn't run at +4/x8 solo at this point in his life in the live game, so he's definitely not in "Highpower McBadass"-territory yet. He'll be a fair test of what they're like for a soloing non-50 Joe Average, I think.

try them with characters with so's maybe? what we were supposed to be balancing on?

I was just on Brainstorm testing this. I was solo with a level 50 Tank doing radio missions on my island.

My tank is Invuln so Council have never been any real threat. With the changes I was actually taking some damage, not enough to really matter though, and I kept having to kill the Galaxies twice.

That doesn't really bother me though. I'm used to it from fighting Freakshow a lot.

Basically it didn't make them more of a threat, just more interesting.

The council had an identity. now they are freakshow junior. much rather have new sets than boost every ones base difficulty.

A lot of people have complaining about feeling useless in high teams. A lot. I rarely join PI radios, because they are so boring. What fun is being able to fire only 2-3 powers per spawn.

There is another round of unofficial PI radio beta testing tonight at 7:30 EST. Every test we have run 4-5 50s can *still* rip through pretty any group in terms of speed. The only difference is that player say they actual have to play attention now. Use more of their powers. Depending on your AT/build they are noticeable harder solo. Folks might have to turn down difficultly.

I have been comparing my Fortunata against Council live vs beta. Live Council is a joke at 4x8. Even solo. On beta I actually have to think a little.

If they are feeling useless fighting council....maybe fight arachnos???????It isnt hard to give yourself difficulty in this game. This is just imposing it on everyone because of "git gud" It is an arbitrary change to make a small group happy. if the changes "arent noticable" revert them and no one will notice.

will the rewards for council improve? challenge vs reward?

I am very compassionate towards letting people play how they want to play, but I do see a small inconsistency here.  If the level 7 knows enough that they are looking to buy salvage on the /AH, don't they also know enough that they can sell their salvage on the market as well?  In that case, as mentioned earlier, selling two unneeded pieces of salvage should be more than enough to buy the one piece they do need.

On a bit of a segue, every once in a while I play a character completely organically without using the /AH at all, and salvage is the main stumbling block.  If you are looking for a specific piece, especially if it's orange, it can be a drag to start farming arcane/tech enemies in the hope that your specific piece will drop.  This is one case where running AE missions for tickets is very useful.  You can trade in tickets for salvage by tiers, so if you want, for example, a luck charm, you swap 8 tickets for a common low arcane salvage and have a 1/6 chance of getting your luck charm.  Thanks to math, doing this 4 times gives you roughly a 50-50 shot of getting what you need, and doing it 25 times gives you about a 99% chance.  200 tickets don't take very long to earn at all.

If everyone markets like this...no one will make money. the supply would skyrocket and there would be no demand. The more sellers there are, the less buyers there are.

Are we playing city of stockbrokers or city of heroes? With the devs bumping up enemy difficulties, more people will have to start enhancing toons at lower levels. The devs could have a weekly restock of all salvage to keep the costs of just salvage down. Let the market for everything else go, but manage salvage.
