  1. I made a new character, loaded into galaxy city tutorial and thought to test what type of text Homecoming supports to maybe make a creepy battle cry.

I copied text from https://lingojam.com/CreepyZalgoTextGenerator into local chat, specifically: "m̴̧̭͉͓̺͖͚̬̹̯̲̳̒̄̎̾͜ỏ̸̢̻̥̭̦͎͖̏͘͝u̶̼͝t̷̛̖͖͉̰̊̅̾͒͐̓̾̋̏̒͘͝͝ͅh̵̢̡̙͉̫̞̱̠̝̗̣̒̋̐͂̊̅̚̚ͅs̷̥̮̀̄̈́͂̀̐̏̊͒̽͗̈́̈́̓͒.̶̖̌̈́̏̿̊̌̾"

Froze the game, froze my system, waited approx 5 minutes before attempting ctrl-alt-del - had to force shutdown homecoming. Game loaded back up and to the character with no issues. No idea if known or not but I figured I'd report it. No idea if the text 'comes out' and impacts other players or not.

Don't forget, you get three different builds on each character, so play away! The main issue with Crab Spiders is that once you have the backpack on build you have it on all of them.

I already have a maxed Arbiter I play with a huntsman build, and I'm working on inf for a second mace build. I created this character to have a dedicated crab - I love VEATs and I love playing VEAT only teams.

  3. As an update, I took this build to the test server, I can hit folks on the ITF set to +4/x8 fine. Survival isn't perfect but I could probably solo +2/x8.

That said, I'm not too sure how happy I am with experimentation. I might have to give it a whirl more. I am really impressed by all the bonus range from the bombardment set - I can hit with things from what feels like miles away.

First: WAY too many procs, not nearly enough damage and accuracy slotting in so many of your attacks.  Crabs have a 1.0 damage scalar so enhancing damage is going to give you a better bang for your buck on average than loading up on procs will.  Also, you're going to struggle to hit anything with VG, Frag, etc. with no accuracy slotted.  TTL is not a replacement for accuracy slotting, it's a supplement.

Second: You have too many attacks overall.  There's no way you need all of those attacks.

Third: For a build focusing on Toxic damage, you have totally neglected you big Toxic attack in Bile Spray.  Why is it only 3 slotted?  And again, why no accuracy?

Fourth: If you're going to go with procs, and your build is Toxic damage focused, why no Gladiator's Javelin in your ranged attacks?  It's the only Toxic damage proc out there.

Generally, I don't think your proposed build would be playable.  The lack of accuracy slotting will have you whiffing way too often, even against +0s, let alone +1-2.

    1) I'm struggling to understand this. I could use some help with the math. As a test, running mids I put 3x 50 Acc IOs in Single Shot. That shows 154.1% accuracy on the attack. On my crab build, Suppression with no acc enhancements shows 150.7% accuracy on the attack, mainly from things like TTL and set bonuses. How much accuracy do I need to hit a +0 then?

    2) Probably. Possibly. But some are situational. Vs a hard target I tend to chain ST attacks, vs a group I cycle AoEs.

    3) I could probably stand to throw some damage in there. I'm trying a toxic/proc based build, slots are tight and with set bonuses I'm not too unhappy at where it sits.

    4) The powers that take the toxic proc are being used for my AT sets.

You've given me something to think about however, I might try making it on the test server and seeing if I can't get a feel for it before I finish leveling and buying IOs, thank you.

  5. So I had a theme idea the other day and came up with a potentially unusual build. It combines procs and seeks toxic sources for stacking with venom grenades.

The trade offs are obvious in the build, petless, less defences than can be achieved.

I have also picked up the crab backpack attacks - it's thematic for me, even though I know the rifle typically does better DPA.

    Thoughts/Comments/Suggestions/Questions/Math welcome.

  6. I am fairly surprised and disappointed at this result. Looking at the thread, there seems to be an ~5 hour gap between (paraphrasing mine) "We're going to try the new thing and see if we can balance it to a suitable level" to "We talked long and hard and we're not doing it anymore, kthxbi"

I think Dark Melee is one of the more interesting sets in the game, but it tends to fall a bit behind in the modern gameplay environment in terms of AOE damage. I will echo other peoples comments that the idea and feel of making the damage scale to endurance was a really interesting one, and could lead to fun moments. Objective testing put the phase 1 buffs in the top 50%, from being pretty much bottom of the pack. Even Phase 2 with the over tweaking had it in a better place than Live and would be a preferable place to be in than the current live version.

I think we all understand the need for testing and tuning to get things right. I'd just love if you guys were able to stick with it and develop this out now rather than a nebulous future date.

  7. One of the common comments about the Crab Spider abilities in the VEAT is how the Crab Spider attacks are generally not as good as the rifle alternatives, even though themeatically the abilities are intended to be mirrored. Many Crab players primarily use rifle abilities which I feel takes away from the fun and theme of the AT/Powerset.

Crab Spider animations are longer on general, but with no real improvement to damage. A pass on animation times on Crab Abilities would be beneficial in my opinion.

  8. Ahoy! I've turned around and played with a build for my new tanker as Inv/STJ. On paper it seems to meet all my needs and goals (good layered def/res, high HP, recharge for perma DP and still has some punch) but I wanted to post it here to see if I'm missing anything horribly obvious. Alpha slot I'm unsure of what I want to do with however and feedback would be nice. Any thoughts on adding more damage while still keeping similar or same levels of survival would be a bonus.

  9. Anyone want to start an investment firm? The minimum buy in is 100m INF and I guarantee that I will double your investment. Send your INF to @Murcielago! and then I'll run away with it.

Timeframe of the return? Guarantees you offer? Is this all just an elaborate scam?

  10. Energy Aura is always one of those powersets I've always wanted to like and try. Sadly, I'm playing around on the designer and can't seem to make a late game build work. I'd like to cap resistances and have a decent amount of defence and recharge. Does anyone have an existing build that has this or close to this I can look at?

    Many thanks!

  11. City of Heroes has the core strength of character identity behind it.

I can make a character look and play almost any way I want and make it uniquely mine. In comparison to most other MMOs which limit avatar looks and feels. Names are a part of this identity. People build reputations within servers and communities. People are recognized, positively and negatively. To allow everyone to use the same name would take away part of what makes this game special. I don't want to be a generic hero or villain. I want to be *my* hero or villain.

If people are having a hard time with names... there are tons of good ones still out there. Even in i23 there were good names for the taking. It just takes imagination.

  12. Looks like a really good build. Why the mace blasts over bash and pulverize though?

I don't generally use the blasts, they're mostly there for IO sets.

My attack chain is generally swapping between Shatter, Crowd Control, Shatter Armor with an occasional AOE mace blast if I feel really keen/bored.

The ranged choices are useful for things like RWZ raids where melee gets chaotic but not generally useful for primary gameplay.

I haven't exemped this build down to 10/15 yet, no idea how it plays there. But I have the vet attack powers.

  13. So this is what I'm building to. I'm maybe 1/5 to 1/4 of the way there so far, been having a blast in DA bringing Arachnos justice to pesky types

  14. I have an endgame Bane build that I've put together today with some advice and that I'm working towards myself if you want me to post it. It's a fair amount of investment though.

Other than that, I'd get ready to do Patron arcs at 35, so you can get the Mace pool for a bonus pet + Shatter Armor.

  15. I made a few changes to my build last night, after some extended playing.

I'm avoiding melee because I want a ranged gunner build for themes - and I've found the combined AOE to work fairly well. It may not end up as optimized as a Crab or pure Bane, but it suits my needs.

Feel free to give me your thoughts.

  16. Heavy Burst (and I suppose suppression) looks like it can take a fair number of procs. I already have mine with -res, but playing around with builds I note I can fit in 3 other chance for X damage procs.

Do you or anyone else have experience with 6 slotting heavy burst, putting the 4 procs in (and having the global spiders bite toxic proc somewhere), frakenslotting the other 2, and seeing the results? Tempted to see how it would perform vs traditional slotting but I don't have the spare inf at the moment to test myself.

  17. Does each Achilles proc individually or does it go into a global cool down across all that are slotted?

    https://paragonwiki.com/wiki/Invention_Origin_Enhancements#Procs

Everything I have read and know tells me that each power should have a chance to activate the -RES, regardless if it just applied via another power. Based on my subjective experience I notice a lot of -RES debuffs on my Soldier - more than I would expect out of just one power triggering it and the rest going into cooldown.
