I think names only get changed when there are significant differences in behavior. If doing less damage were the criteria then every power in Blast sets between Blasters, Corruptors, Defenders, and Sentinels or in Melee Damage set between Brutes, Scrappers, Stalkers, and Tankers would have different names.

Controllers deal damage via their controls. Dominators have Assault sets for that. Doing a bit less damage with Illusion as a control power while otherwise dealing damage with Assault powers does not strike me as the set not serving its fundamental control aspect.

It's not just less damage.  The dominator version, uses different attacks and animations as well as lacking taunt. It's a similar power, but obviously not close to the original.

  2. I didn't ask for clarity in regard to the story @DrunkFlux, but I do recognize you in providing it. While I agree from what your posting they were a problem player. The solution you provided of making a character just to get a rise out of them, and knowing you'd get a rise out of them. To later record that rise and have them blacklisted, Is the textbook definition of trolling. You also just shared their username across games and I'm not sure why. I'm not too familiar with STO but it also reads like you approached them in something similar to their own base. To bait a reaction that you knew would happen. Again I don't mean to be rude or insulting, I did read your full posts.

Easy to test to boot. All a matter of finding a +4 AV and wail on it on live and then on brainstorm, report results.

So far we've had tests on pylons that are not indicative (but brainstorm was faster than live) unless muddying the waters with math afterwards.

It is easy, keep in mind mms do inflated damage on pylons. So pylon times aren't an accurate indication.

Sooo... your answer would be, 'they really don't measure up without ATO's' ?

(I assume you mean the "Chance to build up" and "Chance to hide"?)

The ATIOS are major benefits to all classes. But on stalkers the set bonuses and procs are the strongest. It's a carry over from live. They still function fine without them but the ability to guarantee crits with the hide proc and the buildup proc are massive dps increases. If you want to play the game without ios an unbalanced class with inflated numbers like tanker might be better. That said any stalker especially with energy aura/ NiN/ or sr should be able to solo to 50 with low difficulty.

  5. When your checking for clubs, or groups you want to keep in mind things like player reactivity. Generally the easiest gauge of that at those clubs is ordering drinks, you can immediately gauge if the other players are interested in engaging with you just by their emotes on making your drinks, or them picking up general conversation. When your fishing for roleplay you want things that encourage reactivity between players.

I would also advice checking the discord for roleplay groups or roleplay events sometimes there are pickup groups run by different sg's or vg's to help you get a feel for how that group plays.

  6. An SG, generally is the way to go for plot stuff. The clubs generally do plots on nights that aren't them serving drinks. Some loose plots do come out of the D, but honestly it's a small amount and nothing puts an impetuous on those players to include others. I'd suggest a group or establishing a social circle that runs plots.

  7. It's a government division being head of it is probably an appointed office, like FBI head etc. I doubt stating one out would matter or be worth much? Just because the head of the organization wouldn't be like a king or in charge of every facet of life.  It's the US goverment so I would assume as others have said it's probably some suit out of Washington and most likely changes every 6-8 years. I doubt the government appoints a meta to lead other meta's thats a recipe for disaster and a conflict of interest. After all we traded might for right for constant FBSA survelliance.

I have to admit, this is something I do not comprehend. Why do players feel the need to portray characters who are even greater than superheroes? You're already on a path to becoming an Incarnate, one of the most powerful beings known to exist. But your character must be even bigger than that, right out of the gate. A god, a vampire, an unkillable assassin, an angel, a demon, a millennia-old super dragon, a reality-bending alien, a cruel and mysterious fae creature from the dawn of time, or (as some bios would have it) "the fastest person / best psionic / strongest hero / whateverest whatever" in existence.

    And I ask: why?

From a roleplaying perspective, doesn't this make it harder for your character to take an interest in the trivial inconsequential daily lives of citizens in Paragon? Why would your character care about a single purse snatcher, or a pitiful plot by the Freakshow to hold a crime competition? Doesn't this backstory require jumping through some hurdles to explain why your ultra-powerful ancient evil dragon is struggling against level 2 Skulls at the start? Are you trying to create a character with power on your terms, without any weaknesses unless you permit them? Is it because super-beings play for much higher stakes on a heroic scale (savior of the timestream, guardian of the universe) and much lower stakes on the emotional scale (can never be hurt, never touched by mortal loss or trauma)? Or is this an OOC (out-of-character) thing, where you feel inadequate unless your character is somehow better than those of other players?

I don't know, I don't get it. Characters with limits and flaws are so, so much more interesting to me, and I have a hard time relating to (and RPing with) characters who fill this "god mode" role. I prefer characters that need help. Characters that cooperate, rather than dominate. So why do you choose a god-mode kind of character? Please explain the appeal. I'm willing to understand, here.

All of the character tropes you described have had comic books written about them, they are regular facets of western sci-fi fantasy in fact the distaste for those themes and ideas is kind of odd. As well as the continuous claims of god moding or having characters without weakness. By level 30 your fighting fae. by endgame your doing fire farms full of hundreds if not thousands of demons that are mulched down in two or three attacks. By endgame you kill a god of death than you have the option to kill that goddess that invented the concept of magic (no combat just a dialogue death). Your playing super heroic characters that regularly cross vast dimensions of time and space. There's also a lot of strength to be found in diversity in regards to characters, your average high level magic character probably knows very little about computer systems or weapons fabrication, which tech/science/natural have the claim on. Magic origin characters aren't greater than superheroes, they are superheroes.

Some parts of magic users popularity might be related to the resurgence of modern fantasy, or dungeons and dragons. But too be honest the roleplaying community has also had a lot of magic using characters. Ever since the start. I don't particularly find it troubling or bad but just the nature of the game. Claiming it's godmodding when you have the option in game to pick things like time manipulation or other powers that scale to the manipulation of the fundamental rules of reality is odd, those abilities are baked into the game as well as the super heroic genre.

Claiming that others characters exist without flaws or limits is odd to me, and honestly only something that can be determined on a case by case basis. I'm not going to respond to it as if that post can somehow quantify an entire genre of player.
