  1. Greetings. I would appreciate your thoughts, they don't need to be too in-depth. I've been looking at corruptors and masterminds and wonder if this is a middle road. The build is based around the wolf although there are some nice little gimmes here and there. Defense is impressive and I should be able to debuff mobs into the dirt. With that said, there is virtually no offense and only Living Shadows to build containment. The idea is for this char to fight 50-60' out.   2. I'd like to get some thoughts on this if you don't mind. I only group and do not farm. Attack Rotation Would be something like Fearsome Stare > Fistful of Arrows > Rain of Arrows > Explosive Arrow > repeat or go single target. Seems to have a good amount of defense in Shadow Fall, Weave and Scorpion Shield. Damage Mitigation is Twilight's Grasp, Fearsome Stare and whatever the Dark Servant decides to do. End Recovery is a concern as all I have is the end recovery in Aid Self and whatever group-mates bring. If it gets bad, I'll hang back and drop a toggle or two until someone joins with +rec.   3. I've been tooling along with Frozen Armor and Sleet. Both are really helpful and I turn them off when out of combat so they don't mess up my costume. Incarnates are pretty easy to get high so things are humming right along. Right now, I'm doing a lot of ITF to get cash for Armageddon and Ragnarok. Overall, I'm pretty happy with the char and survivability is getting better with every incarnate advance. I have gone s/l near soft cap at 43.7 with melee at 29.1 as a backup. s/l resist is at 36.7% with fire right behind and cold out ahead. Endurance can be a problem as Hot Feet sucks it down quickly but I do okay as long as I pay attention to it. Thank you for all the responses.
  4. This is what I've wound up going with on my 50 Dom. I don't have the purple sets, just orange and I'm working on Shield Wall as it's pretty expensive. 44% Def, 30ish% resist. I ran ITF last night and even without purple sets, nobody got to stand up. It was pretty strong and I"m pretty happy with it. Should have said, it plays like this: Defenses always activated. Embrace of Fire > Hot Feet > Spring Attack (everyone knocked down) > bonfire (they stay down) > sleet (now they take more damage) > Cinders (to tie up anyone not flopping) > Consume > Nuke down bosses or wander off to find more victims. First, I had to take out Inflict Panic which was a big part of my theme, but it cost me 3 slots in Cinders. The second was taking Frozen Armor over Scorpion Shield. I don't like the way Frozen Armor looks compared to SS but Sleet is much better than Combustion. Still, it plays much better with ice over mace.
  5. Thank you for your replies. I got to 43 defense with the ice epic pool but I don't like it because even on min fx, it messes up my costume. I know it's a little thing, but there you go. I can do the same with Scorpion Shield. Maybe I will put up with Ice because the power combos were really nice. I want the defense because I'm using Hot Feet in an offensive capacity, getting in really close and then letting lose PBAoE fear, bonfire and hot feet. Thank you again for your replies. I wish Ice didn't have such a strong animation.
  6. I am trying to cap, or soft cap, my defenses for my Hot Feet controller. People talk about soft capping defense all the time, but it seems really hard to do. Scorpion Shield/Frozen Armor - 15% def / 22% or so with good enhancements/incarnate (Shield Wall, etc and Agility incarnate) Weave - 4.25% def / 7% with enh Combat Jumping/hover/stealth - 2.13% def / 4% w/enh There are 2 IOs that give 3% each and you can pick up 2-4% here and there with sets like the full Obliteration set, but that will be to Smash/Lethal not (All). There are also sets that give you positional defense like melee, ranged or AoE, but those are harder to build with. Cap on defense is 45%. So, how does one cap defense without Ice or Mace epic pools and the Agility incarnate ability? When people say they are capping defense but not taking those pools does that mean they are capping Resist Damage? Numbers are higher there, but you have to get to 100 rather than 50 with defense. I understand that we have other abilities that make people miss us, or fall down, or whatever. However, if they get a shot, and if it hits, it frequently one shots me. Please help me understand how non-melee ATs get defenses in a reasonable range so that you can jump in with something like Hot Feet and not die.

If that gets boring, however, you can turn on your defensive toggles, turn on hot feet, spring attack in (knock everyone down), PBAOE fear them, and fire cages/cinders/bonfire/combustion/consume them until there's nothing left but ashes. Then you cackle madly and run off to do it again. If you've made it this far, I'd really love to hear from you.
  8. I've been trying to make a melee character for the last few weeks but she needs to inspire me. I made both a tank and brute spines/dark and while they were cool, I never went anywhere with it, probably because I'm not much of a farmer. So, please tell me if this would be reasonable or if I should look at something else. I would like to be able to, sorta tank, and do decent damage. I only group, never farm, and so want to be able to run around without having to constantly rest. I can afford orange sets at 50 and will work up from there. I see this character as activating death shroud and defenses and savage leaping into combat. I would like to keep cloak of fear up to limit getting hit back while using Rending Fury, Shred and Dark Obliteration to tear into masses or Darkest Night, Maiming and Vicious Slash to attack bosses. I'm not a huge fan of super speed, but will figure something out. I am concerned that I have enough defense to have fun. I am also concerned that some people on the forums don't seem to like Savage Melee. I have considered dropping some of the powers below to take Provoke, Intimidate, Invoke Panic and Unrelenting from the Presence pool to maximize using fear but am afraid that might be a one trick pony. I'm leaving out slots/enh because I just want to hear what you think of the concept. I am open to any reasonable change, and/or switching skill sets altogether, if I can keep my character concept.   11. Thank you for your answers, it's what I was hoping for. Just so that I know, can you please fill me in on why Focused Accuracy is not good? And what makes Soul Drain so good? I'm not disputing you on this, I'd just like to know. I think that I understand the accuracy system in CoX, but I don't know where too much is no longer a good thing. Also, some of the other abilities in dark that didn't seem that great to me have been awesome once someone explained them. So, I'd like to know your thoughts.

    I am making an angel for my tanker. Are there any sets that work particularly poorly with Hover? Any that work particularly well? Has anyone ever had a tank with hover that would like to comment?
  13. Do most tankers just run up and start hitting people or is there utility to teleporting into them? I keep thinking that I would need either Shield Charge, Spring Attack or Teleport. Am I overthinking things?

  15. Why is everyone slotting Chrono Shift for healing? Why not slot it for End Mod? Why slot Dark Consumption for damage and not End Mod? We've got Fire Blast for a primary - we're already crawling in damage. And for those of you doing it: is Aim worth it if it's down so much? I always forget to use it when I take it. What does everyone think of Focused Accuracy in Mace? I've never used Soul Drain. Is it so good that it makes Dark Mastery worth taking all on its own?

This was my thinking for an attack rotation: Hot Feet > Fire Cages > Spring Attack into group > Cinders > Bonfire > lock down bosses still moving with Ring of Fire + Char. @Erydanus: My smoke now draws agro because I slotted Control Core Genome as part of my Incarnate for the chance of +1 mag - or at least, I think that's what's doing it. I've been kinda thinking of letting smoke go and picking a different power.   19. Looks like you have 5 toggles running. Are you sure you've got the endurance for that? I try not to run more than 3. Ring of Fire is Mag 4 while everything else is Mag 3. Great for stacking. I'm making a macro that automatically casts RoF every time I hit the button for Char. Will Increase Density remove hold/confusion/sleep/stuff from you? If not, I dropped it and always make influences for break free. That's a lot of commitment to your heal there. Who do you plan on using it all on? Take afterburner if you're taking fly. I love how fast/easy you zip across zones.

  21. Trying to be reasonable on enhancement costs so no purples. Most of these sets I already have in my vault so I'm going to work on the special enhancements and then back to saving for Incarnate stuff. I know that farming builds skip Bonfire but I just love it against some groups like nazis. I know that most people take Leadership for the pets and groupmates. I don't think i can afford all those toggles. As it is, I took Fire Shield solely for the enhancement slot and don't plan to actually run it. Biggest thing I'm giving up is Hover, Flight and Afterburner. I am seriously going to miss them. When grouping I'll do what I always do, run around stealthed while dropping bonfires, something that makes me giggle the entire time. When farming I'll turn on Hot Feet, Spring Attack into them, Fulcrum Shift, Ring of Fire/Charr on bosses, Consume, wash, rinse, repeat? Bonfire then fireball if needed.   22. @Erydanus - I understand why I'm not a solo god then because I dumped Hot Feet when I realized I have to walk to cast it. I really don't like to be that close to bad guys. I'm more of a floaty boom-boom type. @Primantis - Thank you, actually. I'm going to see if I can do something with the earth power pool that looks kind of like my headless horseman concept. Of course, it doesn't solve my mez desires, but I can at least look at it. I hadn't looked at stone that hard because I get so much defense out of hover and stealth. I would probably be a much better player if I weren't kind of lazy. I like being able to float around a corner and pull back before the 30 mobs I ran into see me.   23. I've recently gone through 3 respecs over power pools on my fire/kin and think it's time I get some advice. Perhaps I'm not the best player, but I don't find fire/kin to be the OMG solo machine it's supposed to be. Power pools need to perform three functions for me: Movement, Defense and Offense. Please let me know what you think. Flight: Hover is irreplaceable for me as it lets me maneuver through 3D rooms like caves and stairways without effort. Flight/Afterburner are also too convenient to miss. Concealment: I tend to be impatient and run out in front of slow groups. Stealth keeps me from turning corners and getting blown up. Invisibility is also good to rejoin the group if I get separated. Speed: I assume there are some builds where Hasten isn't mandatory, but if there is, I've never played it. This leaves one pool and an epic to cover offense and defense: Physical defense is covered because I six slot Hover and Concealment with Shield Wall and Unbreakable Guard, which I leave on all the time anyway. That just leaves Mez effects. What is the best defense against CC? Is there a CC resist toggle somewhere I don't know about? If not, do Rune of Protection and Indomitable Will both break you out of mez? Is one better than the other? Offense needs to come from my pool because other than KD converted bonfire, I just stare at bad guys until the group comes. None of them give me mez defense and good damage though. Psi just gives more control, albeit a different kind, but has Indomitable Will. No real offense though. Ice gives me 2 AEs, 1 DD and an Oh Crap power. It would be my choice. Fire gives me a power I can use to mule Luck of the Gambler in, an End Mod I don't need and the best AE cause it's fast. Soul gives me an AE, a DAM buff, a mule for that LotG and an End Mod I still don't need Mace gives me a DD, an AE, an awesome ACC and a shield. Redraw for the two damage spells is so long it ruins them though. Primal DD scatters everything I worked to lock down but I hear Power Boost is really good. and the others don't really give me enough to catch my eye. So what are your go to power pools and what am I missing? What are good combos for mez protection and AE offense? Sorc/Ice? */Psi and don't worry about AE damage? There is tons of information about primaries and secondaries but no one really talks about pools and that's 1/3rd of my powers. I'd love to hear some opinions.
