  1. To justicebeliever - I was just posting an example 2ndary, I apologize if that wasn't clear.

To everyone - Thanks for the feedback. My thoughts on this AT is that HP would fall somewhere between blaster and sentinel. In combat, it would focus on locking down foes into one place and add some other status effect such as end drain, slow, knock down, yada yada as a soft control to supplement their defensive powers, while doing the DPS'ing with their primary set. They wouldn't be as squishy as a blapper, but no where near as tanky as a stalker/scrapper/brute/tank/sentinel.

  2. You're posting a lot of AT ideas.

This is my first AT idea post? There's another poster named Varkarrus that has been posting several ideas.

As for the rest of your feedback, I was aiming to have this AT be a bit of a jack of all trades/master of none. There's plenty of superhero's out there that fit this concept. Look at Spiderman. He has melee(Super strength martial arts), he has control(webs), he most certainly has the defense (spidey sense/high durability/some natural regen), and depending on the universe, he has ranged (Looking at you MCU with your kill mode).

Look at Batman - He has Melee (martial arts assassin training), he ranged (bat-arangs!), defense (suit+reflexes), and he has control (bolas and other gadgets).

I just want to do what they do!

  3. Ello Everyone! Here's an idea I would love to see as a playable archtype. The Warden!

    Concept -

Primary Power Pool - The assault set from Dominators - A good mix of range and melee

Secondary Power Pool - Custom set that's a mix of control and defense - It won't have anywhere near the control capability of a controller or a dominator, but will have better defense.

Example custom set - Earth Warden

    Lvl 1 - Stone Armor

    Lvl 2 - Stone Prison

    Lvl 4 - Stone Skin

    Lvl 10 - Quick Sand

    Lvl - 16 Earths Embrace

    Lvl 20 - Stone Cages

    Lvl 28 - Crystal Armor

    Lvl 35 - Rooted

    Lvl 38 - Earthquake

For their special, since they focus on melee and range for damage and have more immobilize powers than holds - The Warden gets a small bonus to defense against any foe affected by a status effect such as immobilize/slow - Any status effect the Warden puts on an enemy has an increased duration.

(Note, I am not a math/design balance brained person, so this is just a bare bones skeleton of an idea. Any advice on how it could work better/ideas on other 2ndary sets would be much appreciated!)

  4. Here's what I'd like to see - Consolidated power-sets

    Examples -

Psionic set - Includes psionic melee, psionic control, psionic defense, psionic support

Earth - Includes stone melee, rock armor, rock control, rock pets (Rock pets don't technically exist yet)

Fire - Includes all the ways to set people on fire, whether they like it or not

Now some powers won't fit smoothly into this frame-work... So you propagate them to all powersets as a customization option, or make them secondary power sets

Example - Melee weapons - Where do they fall? How about I take a general framework of melee powers, add it to each of the primary sets as a customization - You want to dual wield swords and control lightning? Now your lightning melee attacks are made with swords and both sap end and do crazy combos.

You want to use claws? Rock Claws!

You want to not have any crazy elemental stuff? Go super strength and grab a hammer! Banning powers not included.

  5. Is this just the same as Blackwand or Nemesis Staff, but suggesting we need more items like them?

    I'm a little lost here...

Imagine you're a electric/electric blaster. You shoot lightning out of your hands... Then someone hands you a guitar! Now you shoot lighting from your guitar! Or from a wand, a gun, a magic orb of powah, or whatever gizmos they decide to include!

Also, you're a little Lost? Most Lost tend to get bigger the more they mutate!

  6. And lastly it's simple.  The game isn't overly complicated in what it is and what it does and how you do it.

This. Even if you're lazy like me and don't read half the stuff on the screen, you can figure out your missions and learn how to build a serviceable character. Hey, I can even craft a little bit! DCUO and CO? Never figured out their system despite playing for years and finally giving up on them.

I know CO had a crafting system, but did anyone actually use it? It was like it was added on as an after-thought, and you got nothing special from it.

  7.

I wonder if permadeath is possible...

There is. It's called delete your character after you're defeated the first time. Of course, that relies heavily on the players honesty and what not.

Its actually really fun in CoH, since leveling up is slow enough that you feel the loss, but not so slow that it gets absurd.  I played in the Iron Eagles permadeath supergroup back on live near shutdown, and my demon/forcefield mastermind's demise while attempting arrest Archon Burkholder and my energy/energy blaster's death to pumicite ambushes in hollows mission are still some of the strongest memories I've got from the original game.  Not to mention the death of one of the few fellow eagles near 50 to the weakened Hamidon on the Lady Grey task force with my FF defender Ward of Justice, or the death of two of our companions to the Circle of Thorns ambush in posi part 1 on an all Eagles task force run.  There's something about playing for stakes that ups the emotional impact in a way that you just don't get otherwise.  No matter how many times I do posi, I'll remember that particular run forever.

If you get rezzed by an ally in the mission, do you still perma-death after?

  8. "I knew an MMO of which I spent seven years forgetting more than I'll ever know about any other game."

I feel that! I used to have a lot of the zones memorized and knew exactly where to go for all the exploration badges without even having to look at the map. Now I'm as lost and confused as a hungry baby at a topless bar.

  9. Just last night I was playing a much newer,  more "modern" game with old friends.

    • One of is was the wrong level for the content and...nothing could be done about it.

    • Five of us wanted to play together,  but team size is capped at 4.

      • None of us was playing the build we wanted to play because you can't even get the equipment for it until you hit the level cap.

      • We walked everywhere.

        • We did the same content over and over,  basically just farming xp and drops.

        • Everyone was one of the same 7 classes.

        • We were dressed like random murderhobos, because our appearance was tied to the random items we wore for their stat bonuses.

Such is modern gaming.  All I could think about was CoH/V, but they were reluctant to try it.

Edit:  also such is formatting bullet points on a mobile device.

    To paraphrase/bastardize/remix a song

We can play if we want to

We can leave your friends behind

    Cause your friends don't play

    And if they don't play

Well they're no friends of mine

Say, we can go where we want to

A place where they will never find

And we can act like we come from out of this world

    Because you're one far behind

  10. To me, that was the ultimate failing of their system.

They offered three different types of nemeses but only one nemesis plot.

They let you pick powers for the nemesis, which suggest certain backgrounds, but none of that changes anything.

There is only one Nemesis plot - it's all connected...

    Threadjack over!  :D

    You're a Nemesis plot!

To add to the thread itself, it'd be nifty to have your arch-enemy's backround include something related to your backround. For example, if you start off in praetoria, and you choose to go the resistance path, then to being a hero. Your arch nemesis could also be a former resistance member, but went villain. They could be resentful of you for hogging spotlight, or choosing what they believe to be the wrong side. Why be a hero and possibly fall into the same role of those you fought so hard against when you could be a villain and embrace all the freedom that comes with that? And so, you two fight to see whose conviction in their ideals is stronger!

  11. Also the AI pathing in this game is surprisingly good. Was street sweeping in Perez Park with my girl, and a Hellion was trying to run. This dude JUMPED into a TREE. Then he jumped from the TREE onto the TOP OF THE PARK'S WALL and jumped over! I can't remember the last time I saw anything like that in any MMO. This dude was really trying to escape.

Who showed the Hellions Parkour videos on youtube? But yeah, the AI pathing is surprisingly good for a game as old as it is... Until you're doing an escort mission.

As for me, this game has a metric ton of stuff no other game has. Hugely variable class list with multiple power sets available to each archtype. You're not spending your first levels beating rats with a stick. Though it is entirely possible that you can spend your entire career as a hero/villain beating people with a stick! And hey, you need to go clear out that building of bad guys. And you don't have to wait for them to respawn cause it's your own private instance! Also, your friend is online, but they're X levels lower/higher than you? Sidekick/Exemplar time! Oh hey, I wonder what the view would look like from the top of that building... Guess I'll never know... Wait, I can fly up there! CoX gave you the freedom to just play without a lot of gatekeeping.

  12. My fire/ice mage hates running through sewers in his expensive suit. His dry cleaning bills are huge.

You don’t get the scotchguard power at P2W vendor?  ;D

What sort of mage doesn't have a presdigitation spell? (DnD geek here, and I swear that's what that spell is used for 90% of the time)
