Hey all!

The other night, I downloaded the game. I had gotten the "old driver" notification but it was closable and everything went fine once I used the alt-enter to get from fullscreen (which had a wrong resolution hiccup) into windowed mode. I made a character, and zoned into the tutorial all without issue.  (I was having trouble interacting with the first NPC but I blamed that on user error as I couldn't get him to chat.) I logged out there because it was bedtime.

Then, the next day (with no new files downloading), I hit play in Tequila... got the old driver notification... and got in again. However, it kept trying to send me through the new character creator. I finally backed up and tried to get it to go to a server (which only had one showing and was "unnamed" or something similar) and at this point, the game locked up hard.

Then I restarted everything, got the old driver warning and THEN got an OPENGL notification for my video card... and it won't load any further.

I've tried running Tequila as administrator and Tequila and the cityofheroes and homecoming files in compatibility for Windows 7. No luck.

I went through the steps in the tutorial to make a driver shim and installed it. Still no luck.

So, I've done all that, and I'm getting no futher.

As shown in the screenshot above, I'm on the Intel HD 4000 driver AND it's an older one. I can't use the newer one with this particular laptop as it ruins conflicts and leaves the screen black. So I'm stuck on the version I'm on... one that successfully loaded the game the first day but now won't!

What do I try next?

Help, please?

Updates:

1) -ignoreBadDrivers  did not help

2) Game loads and plays fine on non-homecoming servers (Rebirth, etc)

I went through that same process with the compatibility administrator and it worked for a few days.  I was so happy!  But now I'm getting the "outdated driver" error again.  Went through the whole process again, thinking that something might have changed or updated.  But its just not working anymore.

actually i have another idea.  i used score.exe as the file to shim.  i see now  homecoming.exe.  trying to shim that file.  unfortunately the windows compatibility manager wont work because my windows is now outdated.  going to try to update windows to v1903 from 1809, with really slow internet in a hotel....... lolz

I rebuilt my shim to be sure it was grabbing homecoming.exe... yet I still am not working. (Mines' the 4000 driver rather than the 3000)

I see a couple mentions of score.exe yet I don't seem to have anything named score in my COH game folder... am I missing something?

Errr... nervermind, seems like score.exe isn't a thing anymore.

No, the game doesn't use score.exe anymore.

Are you sure you entered ig4icd32.dll as a parameter?

EDIT: Perhaps since you have the HD 4000 the driver name is different. Look in Windows\SysWOW64 for igXicd32.dll, where X is a number. That's the name of the file you should use. Also remember to click Install under the file menu.

That's the ticket! Yay! Thank you so much Captain Fabulous!

That fixed the issue for my Intel HD 4000!

I'm home!

Since you seem to know your way around this issue... do you know why the Homecoming servers may be needing this and the other Rebirth etc didn't? I assume that means they're running slightly different code bases already?

Excellent! Glad it's working.

I can't really say for sure as I'm not familiar with the game code. I do know this is a known problem with these Intel drivers under Windows 10, in regard to the way the OS queries the driver as to the version of OpenGL installed.
