Pets attack nonexistent foe?

So, running the Steel Canyon bank mission from the detective in IP (Davids?)

 

And my freakin' zombies are repeatedly attacking empty air with everything they've got. Both times were in the bank lobby, so I don't know if it was the same spot or phantom foe, but it was half-funny, half-exasperating.
