Sup everyone? I'm back in the city after an about 2 year or so hiatus.

 

I have a Shield/DM Tank that I love to play and makes me feel super powerful (Death Knocker on Excelsior). With the recent changes to the game (I have lots to catch up on haha), I was wondering how I could optimize this build even further. I heard ToF is now a targeted AoE and I am an AoE addict (I took cross punch just to have some extra AoE other than Shadow Maul lol). This build has soft-capped positionals and pretty decent stats. I'm sure there's room to grow and maximize however. I'm looking to have:

 

-Decent AoE (I know DM is more a ST set)

-Soft Capped Defense and as much Res as possible

-Procs to help increase damage output (I'm not super skilled in the proc mechanics of how some powers are better suited for procs)

-An overall "super-sized" version of this toon

-I'm not married to Gloom and I barely use it, (maybe ToF can go there?)

Here's my SR/DM tanker. I did quite a bit of reading the forums and I forget unfortunately who recommended this setup. It's my first 50 after returning as well.

 

So about ToF, it is a targeted AoE, but it's pretty bad still. I leveled using it and respecced out of it at 50. It's like using 320 grit sand paper to slowly sand the HP away from a mob.

 

I'm attaching my build so you can see how I chose to slot DM. I'm not as good as a lot of the veteran tankers at making the really great build. This build hit my goals for decent recharge, incarnate level positional defenses, and a good chunk of extra HP.

 

Included Mids build. It has the incarnates I chose, which is why the defense will be so high.

Thank you! I'll definitely check it out! What was your target goal with your build?

  1. First target was budget. This build came in under 200 mil inf. I used @Sovera's guide to fund it using merits earned from TFs while leveling. That's why it lacks purple sets outside of the ATOs.
  2. Second, Hasten is about 2 second from perma, and I'm totally ok with that, maybe.
  3. Third, was max HP so the scaling resists from SR kick in with a bigger HP pool. I got it to 2698, good bit shy of 2800 or so I was shooting for. I had plans to use different sets originally, but this build came in under budget. It plays pretty well, and I've been enjoying too much to go back and revamp it yet.
  4. Fourth was incarnate soft cap defenses in four toggles.

I was using Soul patron pool for gloom and Darkest Night, but, like you mentioned, I wasn't married to gloom. Also, I wasn't really using Darkest Night that much. I almost went Energy mastery, but I decided to give Mu Mastery a try. I'm so glad I did. It really compliments DM. Two fast animation AoEs with good radius. I am toying with the idea of dropping Dark Consumption for maybe Static Discharge to see how it performs.

 

The next tanker I'm working up is a Shield/DM as well, but I haven't decided on a build for that myself. SR is so cheap on slots I was able to pump a lot of them into DM and Patron Pool.

Shield isn't that lucky, so if I do decide on a build I will post it here.
